I'm back in the market for a matte screen protector. My iPP had a defect and I got a new one. My iCarez felt good when writing, but it did cause some degradation of the image and rainbow effects.

Maybe I should try to get the Elecom product.

I really don’t get it why they can’t come up with a anti-glare screen protector that doesn’t degrade the clarity. Crizal the anti reflective coating they put on glasses is great and keeps the lense perfectly clear. I don’t get it.

I actually did have an amazing one on my 2012 15" rMBP. It was matte and had perfect screen clarity. After some time I decided to buy one for my 13" MBP. Unfortunately the second one was an interior product and I returned it. I am the vendor what had changed and they indicated their supplier had changed. It was a bit disappointing.

I also recall I had a Power Support anti glare film on my iPhone and that was also an excellent product.

I had the anti-glare from Power Support but although it was better than other brands, I felt it still had some fuzziness. Right now I have an iCarez on it which is just okay. I have an Elecon HD anti-glare coming in the mail. If that's not clear, I’ll go back to a Power Support clear film.

I just found a new company that made a screen protector for iPad Pro, to feel like a paper when using the Pencil. Is anyone using, or ordered one? I am very tempted to get one myself, but it's REALLY expensive for a screen protector.

Here's the link https://getpaperlike.com

This is the worst product ever. Do not buy it!! Not only is the adhesive so strong on the parts that peel off, the whole screen protector came off. But when I removed the screen protector, there was an adhesive film stuck to the front of the screen that would not come off with water, cleaner or alcohol wipes. My brand new iPad is ruined.

First time I’ve heard of plastic films leaving residue. Are you sure it’s from the screen protector?

Strange - I was looking at the Paperlike Protector as a possible option but that doesn't sound good.

I removed one PaperLike with no issues (had bubbles). First time I’ve heard of residue. Makes me a bit uneasy, but I’ve Googled and Googled and checked reviews and haven’t found no other mentions of this issue - and plenty users use PaperLike.

I have mine on and like it quite a bit. And a few users on this thread removed theirs with no issues so....

I have the Paperlike on my IPP 9.7, been using it for a few weeks. I had high hopes after reading about it and thought I should give it a try as I take a lot of notes during a work day. The Paperlike makes it a bit easier to read the screen in bright lights, but at the expense of some loss of clarity. My experience is similar to neutrino23, the rough feeling disappeared after some time. Now the feeling is not that dissimilar to the naked screen. I'm gonna give it some week, but it looks like I'll tear it of soon. Not that happy about it.
[doublepost=1547211821][/doublepost]Paperlike high price is a red flag and I’ve been hearing more complaints about non performance of this average product.

I’ll try it when I can buy it for $9.00... until then I will buy a better product for a reasonable price.
[doublepost=1547211910][/doublepost]Btw Amazon quit selling it and there are no reviews at all... interesting.

Also, after using mine for a month, the roughness is still there. Just wipe it off. I actually like it. As for the price.... no arguments there. Then again, I used to buy the really good Photodon protectors that were even pricier.

I just looked for this last night on Amazon and it listed it but stated it was not available... your link took me right to it as a currently stocked item and it has lots of reviews... thank-you and I stand corrected!

I picked up this one, the Moko Paperlike protector from Amazon UK

A little fiddly to get on (some bubbles remain) but that’s natural with a softer, non-glass screen protector.
However this is a revelation for writing on with the Pencil, that little extra roughness makes all the difference and it really does feel like writing on paper.

I’ve had issues with the new iPad Pro / Pencil and the Glass covers I traditionally use, not a hint of trouble with this though.

This isn’t true at all. I’ve been using PaperLike for a couple years. One on my 2017 Pro and one on my 2018. Both came off and reapplied easily with no residue left behind. Had to replace the 2017 one after awhile as it got scratched from my puppy. Also reseated the one on my 2018 to get it a little more straight. Zero problems with PaperLike. You most likely bought a knockoff from Amazon.

I asked them on Twitter and they said they didn’t get that sort of feedback from any customer. I also doubt this is really an issue.

I had mine for a while now and it is great.

Good feedback, does it effect the clarity of the screen much?

To a degree, yes, but that is to be expected. I actually like how it looks - it looks like some fine print. Give it a few days and see if you get used to it.

I'll also throw my .02 cents in as well about Paperlike. I love mine on iPad Pro, and can't say enough great things about it so far. It does very much add the matte appearance, but it's still very crisp image wise. The 'tooth' surface is a joy to use your Apple pencil on.

Couple of things, yes its great - fantastic for drawing on and the more “matte” screen is probably a better thing inside.
Does anyone know how best to clean the protector though?

I ordered one last night for my 12.9 2018. I was laying on my bed and noticed a heavy glare from the lights above me and that’s what I’m hoping it dulls out. Thoughts?

This is a pic of of my 12.9 iPad Pro with the Paperlike screen protector. It's underneath an art lamp on my desk, so you can get an idea how much the screen protector dulls out an overhead light of a few feet.

Thank you for posting this. I can see that it doesn’t drown out too much clarity or color either.

I bought the Elecom screen protector from ebay thanks to this thread and I made an account just so I could share my experience and hopefully help inform others.

First off, I never used the PaperLike brand as to me it seemed too expensive for something that possibly had even worse screen clarity than iCarez. I did like the iCarez protector, especially for the price, but I found they seemed to wear down and eventually even get weirdly smudgy and hard to clean. But again, they’re cheap, so I wasn’t too mad. There were times though, especially on a pure white screen, where the rainbow distortion effect really bothered me. Finding this thread made me curious about the Elecom protector, and I decided it was worth a try.

The clarity on the Elecom is WAY better. Before I removed my iCarez I pulled up a white screen and took a picture of the pixely, rainbow distortion, and then I did the same after installing the Elecom. A world of difference. (Hopefully I’m adding these images correctly, apologies if it goes badly.)

I do also want to highlight what I’ve found to be the one big drawback of the Elecom: it wears down my apple pencil nibs. It is definitely a rougher screen and while that doesn’t personally bother me while using my fingers or drawing, it does clearly wear the nibs down, eventually revealing metal. It’s worth mentioning that I’m an artist, so I’m drawing every day and for others it may not be so bad. It’s been nearly a year and I’ve gone through four nibs now [EDIT: I just double checked and I’ve actually only gone through three so far, yay], and my current one is getting close to done. I feel like this should be enough to make me want to remove the protector, as I saw NO wearing with the iCarez, but I honestly love the clarity so much I think it may be worth it anyway.

Thanks again to the folks in this thread, I’m grateful to have found a screen protector that works for me and I hope this helps me pay it forward a bit to anyone else trying to decide what they want to do.
