How the hell has Apple not added Siri into OS X?
What's interesting is the OS control features were on the Mac since 2001 including saying computer to activate it. Opening programs and other commands. I think the merger is coming soon. Considering Siri was created as a differential feature for iOS, the needed to be exclusive to it for a period.

I'd be amazed if it isn't in the next version of OS X... But then again, I was saying that two versions ago. It is quite odd... If I recall, those voice commands existed in OS 9 back in the day. I could be mistaken though as it was a very long time ago.

I never found them in 9 but did set them up in the 10.0. I still use them from time to time. Since they introduced dictation I see the other coming. I think the update of search on the Mac is a prequel to Siri on the Mac.

Absolutely never use these sort of gimmicky features... really... nice on paper but my usage of OSX hasn't changed at all since day 1.

Shame on you, Apple. Cortana is better and it's available now on the Mac when your Siri is still not even there with all you $ billions.

Windows 10 seems like a real option now to ruined ugly OS X. And new phones with Windows 10 that can connect to a monitor and turn into a desktop computer are cool as hell.
Why is Windows 10 a real option only now? It's been great for a while now. Your comment implying that throwing money at code magically makes features happen along with your "ruined ugly OS X" comment tells me that you're more frustrated with Apple than you are happy with Windows 10.

Chill... it's just computer software. And it all works pretty well now, no matter which OS you choose.

These things have gone way past the gimmicky phase and have started to become advanced enough to be very useful.

You may not find it useful but they are accurate enough to be useful enough for a lot of people.

sure, i'm not saying they aren't useful to someone, just not me. the type of features i get the most benefit from are just pure performance gains, speed improvements, bug fixes. i don't even have a phone so many of the service improvements that people get used to and love on their phones and want to carry over to their desktop i just don't even care about and have no use for.

Always on Cortana
Brings Windows goodness to your Mac. Use Cortana, the Microsoft speech enabled virtual assistant, even when Windows 10 is not the forefront application.

There seems to be one phrase missing at the end of the above quote: "YOU, FREAKING INFIDELS!!!11!"

As an hourly user of Cortana on my Lumia 640 XL, and on my Windows 10 TP 10240, I can tell you this; she blows Siri out of the water on SO many levels, and she is so cute, polite, witty and affable.

"Set alarm 4 mins" for brewing my coffee :p

"What's the weather?" when I wake up

"Open <insert_app_name>" this is often hilarious, as you see on the phone screen the misinterpreted words of what she THOUGHT you said, and as you read that, it's phonetically almost identical to what you ACTUALLY said, and she ALWAYS opens the right app, even when the misinterpreted words of your command are on screen; BRILLIANT!

"Turn on quiet hours" (shut up phone, I am busy until further notice) - SO handy.

"Turn off Wifi" / "Turn off WiFi" - she confirms, as always, and it happens IMMEDIATELY

"Flight mode on" / "Flight mode off" (or phrases very similar also work) - and yes - she can turn flight mode AND WiFi back on, WITHOUT A DATA CONNECTION (pah, let's see Siri do that!)

[Hold down search key / say "Hey Cortana" on supported models]: "Text <insert_name>" - she asks what you want to say, and so on. IF you have enabled it, she will read out all texts when they come in - I can have a complete, hassle-free sms converation with my phone IN MY POCKET - so useful when cooking, "indisposed" etc.

Cortana on Windows 10 is not *quite* perfect yet, but is still a supremely stellar, very useful assistant.

Cortana, if I met a girl with a voice like yours (UK English voice) I would propose; she has exceptional British elocution, a very nice, clear and polite tone of voice - SO CUTE :)

I repeatedly asked Siri to tell me a story and finally got this. This is in his UK voice :)

I wondered who is ELIZA??? When I asked Siri, he said "Do you know ELIZA? She was my first teacher!" Search the web. And when I searched, I got a wiki that says ELIZA was a 1966 computer program designed to simulate a therapist or psychoanalyst, lol.

Parallels is trying to become the next vmware. If you researched the company at v1 compared to where they are at today, its night and day.

Personally, I have been a vmware Fusion user since day 1 and hope that one day it offers better integration with other vmware products. I'd like an OS X vSphere client to fully manage vm's rather than the read-only viewer the Pro version ships with now. Such a joke.

And yes, both should be a subscription as every new OS X release comes with a new release of this crap to work with.

Switch to Microsoft then. Bye bye.
Used Cortana throughout the entire Windows 10 Insider Program, it really sucked IMO. Certain simple commands I would normally ask Siri just redirects me to Edge Browser. Windows 10 UI while an improvement from windows 8, still sucks IMO. Windows phones connecting to monitors are cool but the not cool enough to make me switch. Their UI is ugly IMO.

How come I am more excited about the new Windows 10 compared to the new Mac OS X coming this fall or even the iOS9 is it because iTunes is so glitchy that I worry about any updates from Apple.

God this company is just as bad as EA. Yearly paid upgrades and built-in ads on a virtualization program is absurd.

Something went wrong with the scheduled obsolescence of my Parallels 8: It still runs for me within Yosemite, despite warnings that it wouldn't. During the Yosemite beta, I asked Parallels about the warnings, and they said that Parallels 8 wasn't compatible with Yosemite. Could this glitch in the matrix be proof that Parallels is artificially being disabled on newer versions of OS X?
