Why do you guys keep showing that outdated, thick bezel pioneer TV every time you talk about Apple TV? Why not show something actually good looking or some generic image.

I'm expecting a revised Airport Extreme with 802.11ac support as part of the announcement.

Need someway to get all those bits around quicker.

Plex client for Apple TV!

If Apple opens up Apple TV to apps, then I will finally get one. I need a Plex app to play all the many other files I have other than h264

Oops, sorry. That's true, only one monitor. :(

Damn, oh well. Hopefully they'll fix that by September. The reports can't even get their facts straight; some say it has HDMI and two thunderbolt connections, others don't even mention HDMI.

Maybe "And touch." actually means that this new AppleTV's remote will include a touch surface similar to the magic mouse.

Nice...

Been waiting on both of these. I've had both iPad 1 and 2, but sold each after about a month of realizing that my iPhone was still more useful than each device and with my Macbook Pro I didn't need either. The Apple TV is about the last thing Apple I've never had, and I would have invested in one earlier but I figured there would've already been a refresh by now.

-Facepalm- Oh of course. I've always thought to myself that what I've really been missing in life is 5 RAID arrays connected together at, I think it's $1000 a pop. :)

Let me know when there is a simple, cheap device that let's me plug in 2 or 3 monitors to my Macbook pro pleease (aka, not the Apple Display)?

TBD refurb/open box price is reasonable, but its the storage solutions that are currently lacking. Lacie TB drives are still absurdly expensive and it's too bad that the seagate 2.5 adapter isn't capable of daisy chaining. WD's TB duo is yet another shot at reasonably priced TB external. If they can get it under $600 for the 6TB, hopefully in the lower 500s, it'll be more accessible to the consumer mac user.

I'm not convinced $800+ is reasonable really. Sub $500, I'd call reasonable - but maybe I'm jsut being a tight ass. It's a real shame though, I wanted thunderbolt to take off. Heck, it could of been a HDMI replacement everywhere in the future, but the lack of competitively priced anything makes that an unlikely reality.

$500 for 6TB RAID TB storage would be nice.

yeah, the currently reality is that 1080p is mainstream, 720p for the lowend. Anything above that like 30" 1600p and 27" 1440p will command a premium. When 4k resolution becomes standard, it will drop to the prices that 1080p monitors command today, until then the TBD is priced because of the TB tech + 1440p + apple tax. Unless you must have one large display it is much cheaper to do 2 lower resolution displays side by side. Just don't mind the owners of dual TBD + 27" imac, which are not that rare here.

Looks like maybe a Smaller version of ipad?

I can understand one set of part numbers meaning Wifi vs Cell Net as one set of numbers but the other set could be a smaller version of the ipad like a ipad 2s or 3s (s = small) at a lower price more like a e reader and for basic uses that the ipod touch is just to small for but do not need the bigger size of the full ipad. I am hoping that with photos shown on this sight of the ipad 2 and 3 with memory chip means the base unit will be 32 gig with mid unit being 64 gig and the upper end being 128 gig. the 16 gig ipad is to small of memory for doing anything other than internet stuff. If there is no memory increase i rather buy the 64gig ipad 2 which would be more practical. I really could care less about a 1080p screen when i will never watch a movie on it. if it does have Full HD screen it better come with increased memory size or it will be kinda useless over the ipad 2 which is now selling at a reduced price.
What i would be interested is there is a 1-2 week ship time for the 2 gig time capsules (been 1-2 week since mid Feb) if apple updates the time capsule for the new higher speed wireless or has intergrated icloud features or larger HD i.e. base model 3 gig and 4 gig upper model. I am in bad need of a new one.

I would be really interested if they made a ipad jr of sorts replacing or supplementing the ipod touch. I love the touch but it is really to small to do somethings on - like reading a book for example but really do not need the larger ipad. I would rather buy a smaller ipad then a full size one!

now that it's official this thread will most likely die. But I wanted to comment on a rumor from the original post that one model would likely be in one color only.

Many expect that the iPad 2 will stick around at a lower price point, and it might. But if Apple is really throwing a quad-core and suped up graphics in the "3" and most new apps will be made to push the limits, it seems like it asking alot of the 2 to keep up. My prediction:

Ipad "3" or "pro" or "HD" or "whatever" will be launched with the specs long rumored and all but confirmed.

But Apple also launchs iPad 2S. A5X chip. Better graphics, gig mem; but no retina and no LTE. And that one is Black only.

boom.

Yep. Exactly what I've been thinking. I bet you nailed it.

There is no way iTunes moves to true uncompressed 1080p content - way to much data - so i'll ask the dumb question - why is everyone so jacked about 1080p????

If it had app support, I'd tie a Benjamin and my ATV2 to a brick, throw it through an apple store window the night before they are available and take one. Kill 3 birds w/ one stone... pay for it, get a new one before anyone else, and also give them my old atv2 for their recycle program :D

Old ATV2 would go well in kids room in my case...

Just because it's not uncompressed doesn't mean there isn't a distinct advantage to bumping the resolution to 1080p.

In the Pro Video space, Apple made a big splash with ProRes422. A compressed file format that has become a very popular for mastering, and is nigh indistinguishable from uncompressed to the naked eye. The tradeoff? It's VERY processor intensive.

I believe this is what Apple has been waiting for, mobile chips to power the AppleTV (and iPad); powerful enough to decode these more processor intensive codecs. That's been the challenge in delivering 1080p content- bandwidth! An average HD iTunes movie is already about 4GB. A linear move to 1080 would mean 10-12GB files. That's just not practical for many people.

If Apple announces 1080p HD movies on iTunes next week, I'm betting the file sizes will be a bit larger, but not WAY bigger than the current 720p offerings.

You can deliver high quality at a lower bit-rate if you've got the decoding power to do it. So unfortunately, AppleTV2s are unlikely to be able to benefit.

You're not alone in wanting a mini iPad!! 8" with e-ink/LCD hybrid and 10" Pro iPad for hardcore usage is my unlikely dream. Please use commas (,) and page breaks though!

< - Page break ;)

I'd love to be one of the dual dual TBD + 27" imac owners, I just can't justify the premium. :(

I'm hoping for a new Apple TV. I still have my modified Apple TV 1. That one has an SSD in it now, and gets used for road trips. Load it with kids movies to play on the LCD TV for the passengers. Works wonders.

Then a couple ATV 2's in the house. I would like newer and faster. And as others have suggested Hulu and more content options.

Am I the only one who wishes macrumors.com would start talking about stuff that is Mac related?

They just did last week-

Apple has sold more iOS devices in 1 year than they've sold MACS in all the years since they were introduced!

This is exactly what I would like.

Don't want to Daisy chain very expensive monitors and get a massive neckache from so much real estate.

I want to connect two, smaller monitors to a mac laptop (excluding macbook screen). So I can take my laptop from the office, to the home office, without having any issues!

As for those expensive Raid's, better off getting a NAS and saving lots, such as a synology.!

Gabi.
