I have a feeling most of the people who start these threads - this one included - are just old users who create a new account looking for a few cheap laughs :D

It surely isn't a coincidence...

For 10+ years I had a plan in place about refreshing my Apple computers. I always had a desktop and laptop and would get replacements in alternative years. So I each year I would get something nice and shinny new and sell off the previous on eBay. Apple blew that for me with the conversion from the PowerMac to the Mac Pro by jacking up the entry price making it no longer a "mid-range" desktop and also doing away with "matte" screens on iMacs. So I no longer get "desktops". But that is a story for a different day...

With the iPhone it has been pretty simple, I have just refreshed every two years (iPhone 3G to iPhone 4) as that is when the contract expires.

Not quite sure were the iPad is going to fit in a refresh policy. Because of the huge hit it has been in the extended family it would be quite easy to just get the new model each year and hand the previous years model to my niece or nephew. So every year I would get a new shinny one, but give them something updated every year too...

More like, why don't you want to see what is actually released, rather than already dismissing a product we know nothing concrete about.

Agreed. It makes no sense to pass up on an unannounced device that we don't know the specs on, in order to get different unannounced device that we don't know the specs on.

Well the iPad 3 will have at least 3 - 5mp and 720p or 1080i; not a piece of junk 1mp. The retina display will be nice as well. And so will the 3D no glasses display - if Apple likes the 3D idea.

I'm a bit disappointed with the rumors I'm hearing about the iPad 2. There's no Retina display, the camera is only 1MP, and I haven't heard if the RAM is getting an upgrade. This is why I'm going to wait for the iPad 3. I just read today that it will get the upgraded display and that is already a good start. I'm also thinking there's a better chance of the iPad 3 having 4G.

I know...I know...why not wait for the iPad 5, right?

So far with the rumors of what the iPad 2 is going to bring to the table I agree with you on this point, so far it seems to me the iPad 2 isn't offering enough for me to sell my iPad and drop a couple hundred more on a iPad 2.. If some other company does come out with a tablet that wows me I might just sell my iPad and give it a try but honestly so far only the Xoom would be a contender BUT that probably won't happen because there is absolutely no way I am paying a monthly data fee for a tablet, I have a WP7 Smartphone for that.. I'm a strictly wifi tablet user..

whilst this does seem a bit silly, there is a point here.

Some years/model revisions will see a major jump in spec, like the iphone4 screen, other years iphone 3g, 3gs will just be a light tweak and not much point.

It does not mean always waiting for the next model, but to wait for the worthy upgrade.
I also have seen speak than the x2 display will be held back for ipad3 which for many would be the time to upgrade as i think many are expecting ipad2 to just be a little tidy up a few rough edges and facetime added.

+1

The back of my head is saying the same - but I know if I have the money I'm going to buy the second just for something to play with. :p

I haven't heard about what features the iPad 3 and the iPad 4 will have, so I'm going to hold off and wait for the iPad 5.

There mite not be a iPad 2,3,4, and 5. Apple mite just have one or two then bring out the retina implant.

Buy what you want now and bloody enjoy it instead of assuming the next model will have what you want as currently the iPad 2 has no specification and could even be a iPad with a slightly faster processor and no extra features.

lol nobody even knows what exactly is coming on the ipad2 yet they already know enough about the 3 to make a purchase decision on!? I have considered waiting for 3 as well but it was more or less not to play the upgrade game.

Please hold your breath while waiting. The world won't miss you.

In the meantime, go live in a cave too.

Oh wait, it's a newbie here to spread FUD.

Hi, My name is iMaven and I'm an upgrade junkie.

I was reading some other threads and noticed I'm not the only one passing on the iPad 2. A lot of people think the iPad 2 is a minor upgrade.

People have a right to do whatever they want to do. I choose to stop being an upgrade junkie.

Theres a lot of pissy people in these forums. We are on Mac Rumors and solely rely on rumors to get a "GLIMPSE" of what to expect.

Of course if the iPad 2 got a Retina Display the Thread starter would probably get it but through hearing rumors of it being too expensive to do at the time with a big screen such as the iPad we go by that which makes sense to us and Apple to make our judgement on whats to come rather than waiting on the facts.

I am also awaiting for the iPad 3rd generation not because I know it's going to be better than the 2nd generation but because I am awaiting features that are good enough in my eyes to purchase an iPad or upgrade.

For me to purchase/upgrade an iPad:
4G
Retina Display
Thinner/Lighter (Thats standard for most of Apples mobile devices)
Upgraded Specs (also standard)

I do understand the iPad 2 might have a thinner glass which results in a lighter iPad but because it MIGHT have no 4G and Retina Display, that won't be enough to have me purchase it.
