At $50 1Password can be cheaper than something like LastPass premium at $12 per year. It depends on the upgrade cycle and your needs on the updates. I think it's worth the price.

I bought the MAS version of 1Password 3 on a holiday special back when Kyle announced here that there would be a free upgrade to 1Password 4. Not only did I get the upgrade to 1Password 4, but I also just got the free upgrade to 1Password 5 as well.

My experience with 1Password has been superb. I do not think any competitor could pry me away. Their commitment to their product, and their extra-ordinary support has won me over... probably for life.

A note says the search engine is temporarily disabled so I must ask this question here. Hope it hasn't been asked before many times.

I love 1Password. Used it for years but need to buy a new one and I see they are now asking $50 for it.
Personally I think they are asking too much and $35 I might have agreed to but feel $50 I feel is gouging......( some might disagree but its how i feel )

So, perhaps the time has come to use a different password manager.
In doing so I realize i would not be able to import my passwords from 1Password but most of the main ones i use daily I know and the dozens and dozens beyond that, are to pages I rarely use BUT if i needed, 1Password is set up on my phone and other MBP.

Can anyone recommend any other password managers that are frequently touted and/or used by mac users here that would do the trick that are either free or at a price thats reasonable?

I would want it to have the ability to do what i do with 1Password is that it automatically backs itself up into DropBox which I use. My phone is a One Plus One droid and I use it on that but everything else i own, plus a second phone is apple so by using drop box, I have 1Password for android installed on the One Plus One phone, which synched with the file in Dropbox. If I synched it with the cloud, my android would be left out of it-hence, why i use dropbox
(before anyone suggests I use it with the cloud) :)

Thanks.

Onesafe just had a big update. http://appshopper.com/mac/productivity/onesafe

Can you help me choose which to try?

So I've been following this thread over the last few days and it got me thinking that I might want to start using a password manager (currently just using Keychain). I have looked at most of the apps listed in this thread but cannot figure out which one would fit my needs. Here is what I am looking for:
-obviously, good password management
-ability to store documents, credit card info, ssn, etc
-the ability to share contents with my wife (we have separate logins, iCloud accts but use the same Mac, both have iPhones)
-and most problematically, I would like to not use Dropbox for sharing. I am open to local NAS or iCloud sharing however.

Would anyone know which one of all the password management apps out there might meet my needs the best?

Tried four apps and always gets back to OneSafe.

Now with the update just so clean, smooth, sleek and "MACISH".

The other ones are to complex and more give me the feeling of old PC apps.

OneSafe is intuitive. Has small nice features like takes a pic of intruders, the extra vault, fast sync between my iPad, Mac and iPhone, VERY easy back-up.

Just safe, simple but complete - that is actually what counts otherwise at least I don´t use it.

Last but not least - the finger print recognition on iPhone 5s works perfect, came with the last update.

The reviews for the latest iOS version are awful, 1*. While the reviews for the previous version were great. Have you used the latest version?

Also, is there a way to use this as a "family" vault? I would like to centralize our info if possible, so my wife and daughter could access certain items (ss#, copy of DL, etc). Or would they each need to set up their own vault that only they could access?

Hi Mic,

Yes I hage the latest UPDATED version. The first OneSafe 3.0 had a small problem with iCloud sync. You had to delete and reinstall the app on your iOS devices. I did and it worked fine. My wife just updated to the latest a week ago and did not have to do that. I always have a backup anyway since it takes a second to make a backup file and place it inside the iCloud Drive.

I don't think you can share one OneSafe account since iCloud Drive does not allow sharing between ID:s. But I think you can set up a Dropbox account and just sync all your OneSafe apps on your different devices with the same DropBox.

Me and my wife uses iCloud Drive but the items we want to share we just share inside the OneSafe app. There is a share function that sends the item over to the other person with or without a PIn code. Works very smooth.

Think my overall feeling with OneSafe is so good because it just works (now after the glitches has been fixed) but also because the people at OneSafe really are super in their support when you have a question. I bought 1Password too but gave up since Agilebits support did not answer after three weeks and it just was or rather looked too complicated to work with. I don't want to write a book when I want to save my info safe and I for sure prefer to use Apples Keychain for my passwords in Safari not a third party app.

I use OneSafe as just a safe where I store my info but I do not want the app to integrate with Safari or other apps, just want it to be totally freestanding.

Thanks for that info. I was just about to go with 1 Password, until I read your post. I'm glad you addressed the issues with 1 Password. That is pushing me toward OneSafe.

Right now I am using an encrypted sparse disc to save all of that personal stuff. So it is really acting as a local encrypted vault. But if I have the mac with me and my wife needs to access some info on it, she has to call me and I have to look it up and phone her the info. PITA. So I am really looking for a vault that we can all access from our idevices whatever they are and wherever they are. Sounds like your needs and mine are similar

I did the same. Made a sparse image encrypted of my docs, mail etc. and just dragged it over to my iCloud Drive so I can store it if we have a fire etc.

My analogy with OneSafe vs 1Password is like choosing between Mac or PC. One offers a lot more functions (that I don't need or want) but is cluttered while OneSafe is more Macish and just offers me what I want and just works, without thinking. I remember before I really bought 1Password I downloaded the trial version and could not get sync via iCloud to work. Wanted to try before buying. Then I emailed their support and after three weeks when I already forgot I have sent the email since I found out on their homepage that only copies bought via App Store could sync etc., I received an answer to wait since they have too much emails coming in. That was in October and I still have not received an answer.

I did buy it but again, I have no use for it and don't want to get helped by a third party app when it comes to passwords in Safari etc. just want to have a safe where I can store copies of credit cards, web passwords, bank stuff, wills etc. and have it safe if I loose my physical stuff.

Realized however that it is so simple to just add loyalty cards etc. for when you are traveling as well. Shops can scan from the back of my Wallgreens card right from inside OneSafe.

I forgot my drivers license at home once in another country and the local Police accepted the copy on my iPhone inside the OneSafe when I explained that that's the way it works in the US but that is nothing I recommend ;-))

Most of the users of computers in this world use Windows and PC:s but that does not make me use it. I don't mind belonging to a smaller group with more demands for simplicity!

Hi there. As with all releases of iOS and Mac we tend to get swamped with tech support questions. It's possible that your email was lost in the mess but you should've received an email response back from our automated reply system with a ticket ID. If you can pass that ticket ID on to me I'll look it up in the support system and see if I can't help get that back on track for you.

Really sorry about the trouble, we are doing our best but clearly that best wasn't good enough in this case. Please let me know if I can assist at all though. Happy to help however I can.

I have 1Password and I like it a lot, and probably my most favorite app. The few issues that I had, I always got fast support. Not sure what happened to other people, but no issues what so ever. I been using this app for over a year and even hated the one option on it (it would save a copied url from safari, and when I opned 1Password, I would get a pop up "you want to open 1Password browsers") and I told them, and they made it so it was an option I can turn on of off.

I got my wife using it and she likes it too, along with my daughter. My in-laws just got it a few months ago and no issues and they are the most tech-savey people either.

Thanks Kyle, I did get an automatic reply first and then three weeks later an email saying that you had too many emails to take care of but you would come back with a reply. Never received that reply so in the meantime i found and bought OneSafe and i am extremely happy with that app and their support.
