What I need is a decent recipy for red pesto, I can make green easy but red everything somes out similar to what you can buy in the shops, bertolli used to make a really nice very different red pesto, a little chilli in it more red pepper than dried tomartoes but I've never been able to replicate it, the red pesto they make now is slightly different and not quite the same.

Classico is better than most and Progresso makes a couple that are also tasty.

The people who make Ragu and Prego should be flogged with wet pasta.

No to the wet! *Dry & inserted with extra pain after sanding the pasta with 'glass & tin*.

Since we all (most) agree on Pasta Sauce

What about the Pasta???

Ling. for me most of the time. But I open to suggestions? Fresh, Box, Mmmm.. Brand types.

:)
Nothing beats fresh, homemade pasta. Personally, I'm partial to tortellini and cavati, but I will never pass up thin spaghetti.

Oh, well, listen to MR. Chef of the House. "I love fresh picked tomatos and linguini and status of naked italian women rounding by dinner table." Well, MISTER CHEF, what if we like our jars? Huh?! Watcha gonna do about it?! Fire me?!?!?!

Wait... you... already... did...

SHAZBOT!

After all the pasta sauce discussions and with the chillier weather setting in, I had an urge to make meatballs with tomato sugo this weekend. Made them yesterday and simmered it for several hours to get the flavours working. Should be even better today... it smells amazing! :D

I'll freeze some of it but I also bought a good brand of conchiglione (the big shells that collect the sauce) and some fresh ciabatta and am looking forward to pasta with meatballs and soaking up the sauce with crusty bread tonight.

Excuse the photo... only had my phone handy

I had a sudden urge to make risotto while cycleing through lieth yesterday, I'll take a picture of what I make tonight.

Oh I made risotto last night :D Chicken and tenderstem broccoli with a smattering of parmesan and lots of wine in with the stock. It was bloody good if I do say so myself...

And I guess because some of us like dead minced cows... much prefer them to live ones :p

I'm downright vegan but you can't expect people to sheild you from imagery.

True, it was a bit of a shock. I'm OK now. But surely even a meat eater would find that shot extremely unappealing?

@applespider,

OK so you prefer dead cows to live ones, but why do you want your stomach to be their graveyard?:)

Actually I don't mind live cows particularly. When I was younger, a family friend was a beef and dairy farmer so I got to know cows reasonably well when we went to help out in school holidays etc. I just think that they miss out on being either the smartest or the cutest of farmyard animals.

I really don't want to turn this into a veggie/non-veggie thread - that would sent it straight to the political forums - some of us enjoy meat, others don't. If a veggie came to stay, I'd respect their views and would avoid serving it to prevent offence being given. But I enjoy meat and I'll keep that opinion regardless of emotive, but inaccurate, words like graveyards being used.

If you visit Italy, you'll find a lot of meat dishes, especially in pasta sauces so I don't think it odd to post a picture and yes, I find it immensely appealing. Incidentally, I find the pic of the mash and sourdough equally appealing... although without the tofu which I'm not a fan of. Chuck some beans/brocolli/squash in there instead and I'd be there like a shot.

As Applespider says, this should not turn into a veggie/non debate, personally the taste/smell of meat makes me physically ill and I don't particularly like looking at it, the main point is tollerence my personal choice is my personal choice and I can't expect everyone to tailor their lives to satisfy a couple of gripes I have.

As long as no one tries to make me eat meat I have no problem.

There is this terrific sauce made by MIKE HUNT'S . A bit on the creamy side, but wow...talk about zesty.

Phil McCracken's is better. :D

It's tough to get even one live cow to stand in a pot of hot liquid, isn't it? :D

Lets ditch the meat debate, especially the photos & get back to Pasta Sauce with -pasta-

What types are your fav. Whole wheat, stuffed rig. (cheese, not some crappy unknown meat)

Yes, I'm changing the topic

ugh,

up until now it's been natually assumed that we are talking about basically a tomato based food, why ruin the thread with photos of dead minced cows?

excuse me while I clean the sick from my keyboard.
Would you prefer pictures of a clam sauce? :D
