Our intention was to release an experimental copy of the macOS Path of Exile client around a week ago, so that community members could test it before its official release tomorrow alongside Heist. A series of last-minute unexpected technical problems meant that we only had this client distributable today. Our new plan is to release this experimental client immediately for feedback from adventurous macOS users, and to officially release on Mac in around a week.

We have put together a macOS version of 3.11.2 (which does not include any Heist content) and have released an installer .dmg file here for Mac users to test. This version will update to and work with Heist tomorrow.

To install it, download and open the .dmg file. Drag the Path of Exile folder into your Applications folder, then launch Path of Exile from within there. It will patch in a full download of the game. Note that you can't copy your Content.ggpk file from a PC to speed it up, and you shouldn't try to use the Content.ggpk from the PC torrent that we'll be releasing today.

Update: So we kind of failed when making the installer. We're going to fix this over the next week, but there's a small manual workaround you can do in the meantime to avoid the "Invalid Installation" error. Once PoE is installed from the .dmg file, you need to open a terminal and run the following command:

xattr -c /Applications/Path\ of\ Exile/Path\ of\ Exile.app

(If you were one of the very first users to test this and you still have problems, or if the client says it is the wrong version when you log in, you'll need to delete your Content.ggpk file and patch again. We made a change that invalidated the old download, sorry! This shouldn't affect many people at all).

This version may be buggy and still has a few things we want to fix, so we recommend not playing it with your hardcore characters!

The macOS version plays on the same servers as the PC version and uses the same accounts/characters/microtransactions/etc. There's no problem switching back and forth between mac and PC as you wish. This experimental 3.11.2 version will patch itself to Heist tomorrow.

We are maintaining a Known Issues list for the macOS version here.

Please post any issues you encounter in the bug reports forum (preferably with "Mac" in the subject).

Edit: I have merged the previous edits into the main body of the text.

After download and open the .dmg file, copy Path of Exile folder to applications, don't run it.
Open terminal as above states
paste in xattr -c /Applications/Path\ of\ Exile/Path\ of\ Exile.app
then click on Path of Exile application in the folder and it will start the lengthy install. (24.77 GB download)

System min is Catalina. Saw several people running Mojave 10.14 for 32 bit support. If you have to have that then make another partition for running Catalina with your APFS volume.

Content Update 3.12.0 -- Path of Exile: Heist. 5.76 GB

• Please note: Patch 3.11.2 contained a broad restructure to Path of Exile's file system that necessitated a complete redownload of all game files. If you did not update the Path of Exile game client in the week prior to this release, this update will be very large. We suggest you begin the update process early.

• Challenge leagues are a great opportunity for a fresh start in a new economy. All of your old characters and items are still present in the Standard and Hardcore leagues, but you're encouraged to join the new leagues, complete challenges and demonstrate your mastery of Path of Exile!

• In the Heist Challenge League, you'll travel to The Rogue Harbour to hire skilled thieves in order to pull off elaborate and risky Heists. With their help, you'll infiltrate secure facilities, work to bypass security systems and steal valuable Artifacts. You'll need to be careful not to trigger the alarm or the facility will go into lockdown and you'll be swarmed by its guards. When this happens, you'll need to make a mad dash to the extraction point or you'll lose everything you stole along the way.

• Successfully completing Heists lays the foundation to pull off a thief's ultimate goal - a Grand Heist. For these, you'll need to accumulate Heist markers, gather intel and train and equip your crew. Intel and markers can be used to reveal the details of Blueprints which contain the secrets of elaborate facilities which will allow you to find more reward rooms and plan which Rogue expertise you'll need to bypass security. Grand Heists offer exclusive rewards like Trinkets, Alternate Quality Gems, Replica Unique Items, Experimented Base Types, Weapon and Body Armour enchantments and much more.

• Each Rogue has one main specialty and several secondary abilities. These skills are essential for completing Heists by allowing you to demolish walls, pick locks and much more. You can equip them with specialised rogue gear to make them more effective in Heists. Each successful Heist will help improve their skills.

• With 3.12.0, there are Standard, Hardcore and Solo Self-Found variations of the Heist challenge league available. They have the same core mechanics and items. You can create private league versions of these leagues, with mods that make the game harder.

• The new challenge leagues include a set of 40 new challenges. When you complete 12 challenges, you will receive the Nenet's Hood, Huck's Helmet and Vinderi's Helmet Effects. When you reach 24 challenges, you will receive the Heist Cat Pet. At 36 challenges completed you'll receive the Heist Portal Effect. These microtransactions are only obtainable in this league.

• From the 19th challenge onwards and for every third challenge after that, you will receive pieces of the Heist Totem Pole decoration to display in your hideout. The Totem Pole permanently showcases how many of the Heist challenges you completed during the league.

Note I am providing this information for new players or windows players wanting to try this out on their Macs, not going to document everything in this thread.

Paste in xattr -c /Applications/Path\ of\ Exile/Path\ of\ Exile.app
then click on Path of Exile application in the folder and it will start the lengthy install. (24.77 GB download)

Does not work for me.

After entering xattr -c /Applications/Path\ of\ Exile/Path\ of\ Exile.app into the terminal and
then clicking on Path of Exile application it does a 27.4 MB download then fails with this error.....

Path of Exile quit unexpectedly
Are you running Catalina? (10.15.6) The signature made me asked that. Check the URL and comments. I seen other patches applied.

I see someone did this for error 267
P.P.S. Doing the steps above and then DELETING the Contents.ggpk file, then running the Path of Exile.app did help.

Throw what you have away, start over, no folder or app or Contents.ggpk
Starting at the beginning:

  • click on the installer .dmg file here link and download the file to your downloads called PathOfExile-installer.dmg (28.7 Mb)
  • clicking on that dmg you have in downloads after saying you trust it shows the Path of Exile Folder that you need drag to Macintosh HD /Applications
  • When done you launch terminal in utilities
  • Run the following command:
  • xattr -c /Applications/Path\ of\ Exile/Path\ of\ Exile.app (copy paste this into terminal, then return)
  • Go to /Applications, find the Path of Exile Folder, open it see the Path of Exile Application
  • Double click on this should start a process where you see a dialog pop up telling you what version you will be installing and all the changes, it will show progress at the bottom. You are downloading many GB's, it will take several minutes to complete.
Hope this helps.

POE actually doesn't care where it is installed, if you want to run it from a different location.

Open terminal
type xattr -c (with a space after the letter c)
Once you have the text in the Terminal, just drag your PoE app to the Terminal window and then press Enter.

It will change the path to that hierarchy location.

Thanks to Tia for this information.

I followed the above to the letter but got the same result I am afraid.
Try using the post #12 technique, in case your hierarchy path is not standard.
Other things to try:
I would also reboot the laptop to the macOS recovery (Command (⌘) and R) and run Disk Utility to verify you don't have underlying issues with disk volume map.
Do a get info on the Path Of Exile
Owner - read & write
admin - read only
everyone - read only

As a developer, I was wondering why you support Catalina but not Mojave ?

In terms of the game, what resources does Catalina have that Mojave doesn't ?

I never said I was, the first post was a copy of the POE article from site, just to provide the announcement.

Per another party, it’s expecting a dynamic library only available in 10.15.4 meaning they almost certainly used XCode 12 to create the app. In terms of playable macs that limits you to 2012-2013 models. See https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode-release-notes/xcode-12-release-notes

They also have in a pull down being able to use sidecar to a iPad which is interesting if you look at pull down menu implementation.

I been watching the progress for months, it’s now a experimental beta. It’s certainly playable. A lot of people using hackintosh’s that use nvidia GPU’s are miffed that they can’t play this port.

I'm sorry that I assumed that you were a developer.

Never denied it either, until now.

Playable, playable, playable for some un working for many
I'm still thinking its your path to application that is not kicking off the huge download ~30 GB). See other MBP that were successful. ;)

Try this
Open terminal
type xattr -c (with a space after the letter c)
Once you have the text in the Terminal, just drag your PoE app to the Terminal window and then press Enter.

That is a another way to use terminal for making a path to the application

I have a lot of experience as a Mac/pc technical type, as well as associated with others who follow the game industry. I consider POE a greatly delayed milestone for the Mac. Now it is finally here to compete with Blizzards Diablo 3, as well as there future 4 is being worked on in the ARPG genre for game fans of this category. ;)

Which one is it then?
They are the same point of view the original
xattr -c /Applications/Path\ of\ Exile/Path\ of\ Exile.app

Make sure no period at end after app

Alternatively POE application can be in any hierarchy as long as you set the path in terminal which is why I told you can do this also:

Open terminal
type xattr -c (with a space after the letter c)
Once you have the text in the Terminal, just drag your PoE app to the Terminal window and then press Enter.

I notice this forum form keeps automatically adding periods at the end of a line of text. bah!
