GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just proves the point "That As Soon as you idiot proof something they will just build a better idiot."

As for the hoax? ... no it's real .... I have that little faith in humanity anymore.

As for the .. inconstancies..... in his over all story. I think he is just lieing to make his machine look "cooler" to the Overclockers community.

The two most common elements in the universe are hydrogen and stupidity

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for it or anything, but why don't we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem solve itself?

I'm sure this kid is thankful for safety labels.

Fake

Just thought i'd chip in and agree with what a few others have said:
I don't think this is real. Nobody in their right mind would do this. I'm betting he carefully removed the parts and then re-installed them when he was done.

Yes :/ I ... I ... er...

Photoshop? Got to be.

This is starting to make me feel ill.

Small price to pay for a 10 page thread on EVERY Apple forum where legions of extremist apple zealots are not only talking about how someone should call Steve Jobs and have him visit this kid's house, but also how the images make them physically sick...

...That big of a prank would be worth a hole in the back of my G5 :)

Thing is though, you're assuming he's in his right mind, which I highly doubt...

Also, he seems like the kind of person (all too common at my school) that would say "MACS R DUM LOLZ" or "NO1 UZEZ MACZ F4G"

Man, did this kid push all of your buttons or what. Whether it's true or false, who cares what the hell he did? His computer, paid for by whomever, no harm done to anyone in here. He's an ass looking for attention. He sure got it.

I get your point but if he was the sort of person that had $3000 to blow on a case for a PC then I think he would have done a better job with the internals. It's a total hack job that looks like a 6th grader could have done better.

I suspect the whole thing is a hoax. Maybe it's one of the burned out G5s we've seen mentioned, where the whole case gets replaced. At any rate, I've used a Biostar Micro ATX board, and it's a POS.

Our buttons are pushed because most here do not react well to stupidity.

And the reason why it wound up here, is that a Mac was involved.

If you need further confirmation of the general distaste that this act evoked, go back a page and hit the link to the OC forum.

About feeling sick seeing these images:
I feel almost like Alex (the main character) in A Clockwork Orange, sickened by the beauty which is ravaged and distorted.

I only ask this: I live in the most appreciated and richest country in the world (according to surveys). But WHY the H*** does some people have so much money that they can take a G5 and then rip it to shreds?? It truly sickens me. I'd gladly give them any PC, even a "super-styled" one, in order to save this piece of magnifisence from maltreat.

Cheesy declaration: If you have the money; give a G5 to a poor man today! That's the best way to burn your cash.

To these kind of people (read: Hiltons and "such"): WAKE UP and smell the sh*t!

Ten bucks says he didn't even boot it up.

(sighs)

If only he would have electrocuted himself plugging it in...that way he would have been a perfect candidate for the Darwin Awards...(its the equivelent of getting a Porshe 911 turbo for your b-day and then taking the engine out and replacing it with a Hyndai V4 because it's too loud)

(sighs again)

haha...even the windoze folk know this kid was a moron (or a really clever hoaxer)

I know why most of you are so upset. it's not that someone took something what they have and modified it to their liking. After all, who are we to tell someone not to change something they have? Yeah, he put an inferior engine in a G5 case, so what? The kid likes XP. I think it is rather inventive, and an ambitious undertaking. You want to tell his parents? Do you think they care? He is getting satisfaction out of a gift.

No, the reason you care so much and are acting as irrationally is becuase you are jealous. Get over it. There are rich people in the world. 3 grand means to them what 3 cents does to you. Its his box to modify if he wants. Now the pictures of that processor made me sick, and I would never do that to a G5, but it is not my machine, so who cares.

Actually the green lights in it were kinda cool. I nver thought about letting light shine thru the metal mesh.

Yes, that's it.

Thank you for clarifying my own thoughts for me. What was that you were saying?

Boy did you step in something with your comments.

No it bothers me because of the irrational ignorance shown in the act. He didn't have a clue what he had. It's like giving a caveman a nice dry house to live in and then destroys it and uses it for firewood in his cave. It's not the act it's the lack of knowledge behind it. It's the thought that somehow you could have saved this kid from a huge mistake if just somehow he would have talked about doing it prior to the actual job.

As I've said time and time again I could care less if someone buys a thousand G5s to run them over with a steam roller or blow them up that's fine at least they know what they are doing. It's the lack of knowledge that led this kid to the point of tearing apart a far faster machine so he could use the pretty case that he destroyed I might add for his slow poke old AMD.

The problem with safety labels is the only people that notice them are intelligent people that probably don't need them.

I still suspect that this was done by some one who removed the innards for another reason. Maybe some one decided to mod a G5 into a new case to give it two optical drive bays, a zip drive, extra HD's, etc. Then realizing he could fun with a lot of people put the other board into the G5 case.

G5 butcher job

Wow... I've been reading about this hack job for days now, but just got the page with photos to finally pull up successfully. (I guess their web server is overloaded.)

Even understanding that some people just don't have any respect for Apple products - this seems incredibly short-sighted. I mean, surely this kid heard enough about the G5 to know it's a dual *64 bit* processor system, and is in high demand in some circles? If he's a regular on an overclocking/case-modding PC forum, I'd think he'd surely know that much. (Sites like ArsTechnica often talk about the G5 systems, even if it's only commentary about it being "Apple's first REAL machine, ever." and so forth.)

Apple has more "street credibility" now than they've had in years, especially with the younger crowd (who think highly of devices like the iPod).

It blows my mind this kid would still opt to tear one of these expensive, new systems apart without even trying it out for a little while first, and then waste more money on stuff like the green neon internal lighting he slapped in it.

He's most certainly spoiled, if his folks know "nothing about computers" and still thought the dual 2.0Ghz G5 was the system he should have for Xmas (even if he wanted a Dell instead)!?!

Me thinks maybe his folks know more than he gives them credit for... and realized a new Mac would be far superior to a PC?

Seems to me a typical example of a spoiled child with no sense of appreciation or value of any sort.

It's totally fake. Can't you really tell about the way it's written? It's so evident and overly transparent in it's provocativeness.

No mother's child writes like that... "I have NEVER seen a finer made case".

I can't believe that people are so bent out of shape about this. I hope the kid buys 100 dual G5s and runs over them with a steamroller. The only connection it would have to me would be that new Apple products might come a little bit sooner. That would be about $300,000 in sales for Apple. Sure, its a waste of a great computer. People waste things all the time. At least this way Apple made a sale.

You're completely missing the point. 1. This kid was given a G5 for Christmas and knew exactly how happy his parents were to give it to him. He completely destroyed it and basically is lying about it to them, indirectly and probably directly (i.e. how do you like the computer, son?). 2. There are so many people in the world who would love to own a DUAL G5, including myself, who can't afford one. People are becoming more inconsiderate all the time and this makes my opinion obvious. This guy (or girl, I suppose although I don't see a woman destroying something so beautiful without even checking up on it, even if she's ditzy...edit: oh wait it was a guy) was given one and he utterly ruined it! His mod wasn't even tasteful, especially with an ugly green neon. Blue would've been better and white would've been perfect........IF APPLE DID IT! This kid is no engineer, and what's worse is that he has no sense. He knew it was a beatiful case and he didn't care. For the first time since I entered the forums I've actually enjoyed and found car analogies perfectly apllicable! So I'll thus add my own, from Lewis Black, of course!

This guy practically looked at the G5 and saw it for all it's luster and perfectness and basically said oh look at this beautiful Enzo (I actually prefer the 360 but the monetary difference is a better analogy) but GOD! "I...I...I gotta have the Horizon. Are you kidding me? I've never driven a car that's aqua!"

His title should have been "How I became a freaking IDIOT!" He didn't even know to use an article or something before he said something like "I'm sure G5 is a great computer..." Could he not have just used the word "the"!

-as an aside: this is one of those times when you wish the boards weren't censored don't you :D-

First off, I find it rather amusing that the PC he installed in that case will probably perform slower than Virtual PC running on that G5 system. But that's beside the point.

If any child of mine decided to completely destroy a $3000+ present, it would be the last present of any kind he ever got from me. I would immediately take away his computer, his stereo system, his cell phone, and anything else electronic in his posession. He would spend the rest of his childhood either in school or reading books in an empty bedroom until he turns 17. And then he can go get a job and find his own place to live.

He could've easily said "Mom, this is nice, but I'd really rather have a Dell". Then they'd return the $3000+ Mac, buy a $1000 Dell, keep the saved money and everyone would be happy. But he decided to be deliberately offensive by destroying his gift without even using it once. This shows a level of contempt that any normal parent should find insulting beyond belief.

Of course, these parents did spend thousands of dollars on a present without first finding out what the kid wanted. So they're also a bunch of idiots.

I think we should just rid the human race of that entire family. Soylent Green's too good for them.

I agree except for the parents. They could've asked but what a suprise that would have been....I told my friend that same thing though, why didn't he just say something to the effect of: "This thing is beautiful, but ti's not really what I was hoping for since none of the programs I have can run on it yet...besides, you spent way too much on it, I only need a computer that costs about $1000." If I were the parents and I found out, the next Christmas (If I had the money of course) I would ask his friend if he were able to put the G5 parts in his G3 and if he'd gotten rid of them yet. Then I'd do 1 of two things. 1. (Most likely though I thought about it just now :)) Ask him for the Beige G3 tower and innards and then reassemble it after I gave him my sons "modded" G5 case. I'd then take the PC parts (ooh have another different idea here :D) with me. On Christmas morning he'd be like where has my G5 been for the past week? And I'd tell him that we "modded it" a little better than his previous "overclock" mod, all while acting like I know jack about computers! He'd open up the G3 and be like WTF? I'd then throw the Athlon BS at him and tell him I hope he likes the idea of buying his own Christmas presents from now on! Later we'd go as a family to his friend's house where I'd be carrying a large package. When we got there I'd give his friend the package, which he'd open up to find a brand spanking new Dual G5 and I'd tell my son that that's how you show appreciation for what you've been given. (Besides now his friend's under my control :D....J/K)

-or-

2. Do pretty much the same except put his PC components in the G3 tower and leave it on his desk. And then give his friend the G5 as described...

I seriously hope, as I'm sure a lot of you will as well, that Steve Jobs does indeed find out go to his house and leave with **** on his shoes! Then his friend walks by and immediately knows what happened and applauds!

I actually told me friend, even though it's really mean (but hey he nearly deserves it, well he does, just not his parents :)), that I hope his house burns down, or even just the computer itself, and all that is left is the case. It'd be completely empty and he'd finally realize that Apples won't tolerate such BS!
