IT WORKED! You have to invert 3f3e and 3736 :) DVI outputs digital video, VGA port works but I can't have dual displays. Any way to fix that?

Hi all!

Can I ask little more about flash FX5200 and enable dvi port...
I have few flashed models 5200 (of course vga only working, dvi not)...
Today I try it ...it is mean I did invert 3F3E and 3736 in rom ... and flashed card with this new rom but dvi still not working...only vga... ???
Any idea?

If both those strings were in there it is a good sign.

This is from memory 10 years ago.

Go back to original and instead try making "3f3e" into "3e3f" and "3736" into "3637"

Another thing to know, the reason so many 5200 cards DON'T have DVI is that the card has a fundamental flaw. The DVI output was "noisy". Most could only run around 1280x1024. It was the coveted ones that could do 1920x1200. Apple knew this and included a special timing chip on their 5200. (Says "Panellink" on it)

SO even if you get mod right, may not run a regular 24" display, and certainly nothing larger.

That's why I was getting artifacts on the DVI port on my 24" 1080p display :p flashed back the original ROM, using VGA now :)

Thank you so much for help and very constructive posts!!!
Nice to meet here person with so helpful experience ...

You know, I wrote before that dvi not working, only vga...
The truth is that dvi not working properly... It is mean after swap "3F3E"
and "3736" I have:
- vga working properly like usual...but in System Profiler (or Monitor Preferences) now I see "second" monitor, not only vga monitor , and it recognize properly my 22-inch lcd (FujitsuSiemens)
- but dvi not working fully properly: monitor starting ans says "dvi input",
"grey apple" looks properly... but there is some problem when it try start desktop view (Leopard 10.5.8) ... Simply monitor most often shows black screen and only for a little moment desktop ... I try "switch" mirror, etc...but still the same...

I try it on two models FX5200 and dvi problem is similar...
Try next models because now I have few models yet...

I think you're right that most FX5200 models are fundamental flaw and it is why dvi problem appear...

We will see with another models, I hope I'll find one with fully working dvi...

Sorry for poor english!

Hi all!

long long time... ;o)

Finally I found model FX5200 with fully working DVI after flash (of course I use this trick in bios we said before)...
This card it is model Albatron FX5200EP 128MB.
Nice to see FX5200 with working DVI... it works good by DVI on 19-inch led Benq (1366x768) and on 20-inch lcd HP (1680x1050)
Minus is that this card is 64-bit so after flash System Profiler shows 64MB (similar like with Radeon 9200 64-bit models)...
How to check if any of FX5200 card have fully working DVI?
Simpy test it before in PC - if it giving needed resolution (for example 1680x1050 or more) by DVI so after success flash will be ok too... if not forgot about DVI...

Displays resolutions , 1366x768 and 1680x1050 maximum possible on these displays, but I think this card give 1920x1080 too...
