PCIe or not?

first of all I am REALLY sorry if this question sound stupid... but I stumbled across something I couldn’t understand when I was about to purchase a 2015 15” MacBook Pro... in every tech specification it says that the SSD hard disk (either 256, 512 or 1TB) are PCIe, but when I go at “about this mac/system report/storage” it says PCI and not PCIe. What made me really confused was when I did the same thing in a new 2017 MacBook Pro (the new one with the touch bar), and it says PCI-express (which I believe stands for PCIe).

I talked to the guys at the Apple store and I even called Apple and surprisingly nobody could answer my question. Actually everybody was as confused as I am now. Just run a speed test on the SSD and that’ll give you an answer. PCIe is way faster than PCI.

Just run a speed test on the SSD and that’ll give you an answer. PCIe is way faster than PCI.

I believe in the 2015 is PCI/E . In 2016 and 2017 it is NVMe. The performance for all 3 is very fast. 1.5, 3 GBytes/sec In real life it is hard to notice the difference unless you do very large file copies.

It’s all PCI-express, don’t worry. I don’t think there have been a computer with vanilla PCI support in the last decade

It’s all PCI-express, don’t worry. I don’t think there have been a computer with vanilla PCI support in the last decade

Because the programmer responsible for textual output decided that it would be appropriate (or just had no clue) or maybe because thats how it was labeled in the old firmware version (PCI-e is a successor of PCI after all, even though they have no technical detail in common). Really, don't worry about it.

Because no one bothered to update the software that simple really. It is still PCI just the express protocol.

For your model (they do change by year) 1 GB/s to 1.5GB/s.

Observe: "Physical interconnect" -- which is PCI.
