If both kick starter and pebble are helped by this arrangement, who is harmed?

If it falls through after funding then the consumer. And obviously Pebble has cash flow problems.

They have already laid off 25% of staff, and despite securing venture capital they are still coming cap in hand to the public. Sounds like they have burnt through it all and nobody else is willing to stump up.

"Lets say it does. For under $200. For peeps that want a smart watch without being fixed to a specific phone platform."

Aside from the battery life what does the pebble time do that existing watches don't already do?
Always on display. That was the number one selling feature for me. Aside from that the simple to use interface is a big plus versus the complicated touch based user interfaces which (in my opinion) work poorly on a small screen.

Fair, but the Apple Watch really does pass - I always get intrigued into it and compliments from friends who have £2000-£8000 watches. Of course i'm not wearing Rose Gold with a yellow sport band haha.
Also fair. I think the point I was trying to make is that if your main motivation for buying a watch is to be fashionable a smart watch probably isn't for you, but if you are happy with your purchase that is all that matters. Cheers.

Right sizing a company doesn't necessarily imply cash flow problems, it may just mean that they are being proactive about matching their workforce to revenue to ensure they remain viable. In terms of using Kickstarter I think Pebble does it mostly because it is basically free marketing and the fee paid to Kickstarter is small compared to the cut they loose selling through retail channels.

Yeah, in my opinion the Apple Watch looks terrible with a terrible UI. There is nothing special about it. It's not unique in any way it's not hand made or assembled by one incredibly skilled person. It's a bloody expensive squished iPhone one on your wrist.

If you're happy with it then cool but lets not kid ourselves that it is in any way special or magical and I'm shocked they'd be a head turning device where people are draped in 8K+ real watches.

I guess its because they don't share your opinion but rather mine, that its beautiful and the UI and watch faces are also beautiful. Everyone is also still amazed when you pay for something with your watch too.

I'm assuming also that i'm the one that actually owns one here and you're just a person who's glanced at the UI and hasn't ever used it.

Has to use it. Unfortunately.
