I loved the original pebble when I had it, but it definitely does not play as nice with IOS as I would like. Also, since owning the apple watch it really has become more of a fashion piece with the added benefits of being a smart watch. I change bands daily.

Couldn't agree more. I add new bands all the time, both third party and Apple Bands. I love how easy it is to switch bands and really enhances the look.

Cheers. The longer battery life is a must for those who want sleep tracking or an illuminated display on their wrists at night that lights up with a flick. I like to put my watch on and forget about it, but obviously different people have different desires/needs. :)

No, a longer battery life is not needed to monitor your sleep and light up with the time when you look at it during the night. I put my AW on the charger about an hour before I go to bed and wear it while asleep. Generally the charge will last until the next evening before it needs charging again. If I spend a longer than usual time exercising in the pool I may need to charge it earlier in the evening. Yes, I ware my AW in the pool without a problem.

The Time doesn't look as bad as Pebbles usually do. Not sure why anyone would want to pay for another data plan for the core though.

I spoke with Verizon about this, cause I'm considering a gear s2 when they come out with the iOS app, and Verizon said it's an extra $10 line access fee per month, and the data is just shared with your plan data. That's reasonable.

For someone who runs a lot, that's not bad price, as 3G isn't gonna use a ton of your data but gives you access wherever you're at. This gives them stream able music without lugging a phone around, just too bad Apple Music isn't comfortable yet.

Actually, those just look like regular watch stands to me. Similar to the charging one I bought for my pebble time. Also, yes there are apps for the voice notes already working on the pebble time gen1.

can you reply to text messages with voice on iOS?

Not very good looking, yet with that said, it looks like the kickstarter has already surpassed its goal - odd.
I agree that the P2 isn't the best looking smart watch but I think it's really meant as an inexpensive fitness device. However, I personally think the PT2 is quite attractive. In person the PTS with a nice leather band is quite attractive with it's only shortfall being the large bezels and from what I can tell the PT2 (which should've been called the PTS2) is the same design as the PTS with a larger, higher resolution screen, slimmer bezels and a heart rate monitor.

Full disclosure though, I've never really cared for the design of the AW, it looks like a blob with straps and I find the UI rather unintuitive.

Nah you're alright, i'm quite happy with my Apple Watch that doesn't look like a kids toy from the 80's.
The Pebble 2 does look like a cheap kids watch, but the Time 2 looks like it belongs to their Steel series which has always been an attractive "grown up" device.

TBH, my friend has a Pebble and I’ve often found myself preferring it over my Apple Watch. It accomplishes everything that is available, without fail. My Apple Watch, on the other hand, seems bloated with features, many of which take a ridiculous amount of time to load.

This is what the AppleWatch should've been.
There is a lot of what the Apple Watch should have been. Instead they made it a premium device with less than expected volume. My take is the Apple Watch 2 will have more features and a lot lower price. They may even for the line with two releases of a full featured Apple Watch just around $1000 and a lower end less hardware feature watch around $200.

"5 days"
5 workouts...
45 minutes each...
Or, you know, just under 4 hours...
That's basically 5 days.

I agree with this. My Apple Watch can last "5 days" by that measure too... as long as I only have it turned on for 5 x 45 minute workouts.

Definitely deceptive marketing!

That said - I am interested in the idea. The fact that I still can't stream or play downloaded music from Spotify from my Apple Watch does have me irked. I tried Apple Music just because it would allow me to play from my Apple Watch... and it was complete crap compared to Spotify.

Hopefully we'll see a Spotify native app for the Apple Watch sometime soon...

It does look better I agree, but it still doesn't pass in fashion circles in my opinion.

A ugly half baked piece of crap?

It does everything that 95% of people would want a wearable to do.

Always-on screen

~ week-long battery life

Built in gps

Not tethered to a phone

Notifications from your phone

Water proof rated to 30 m

Health sensors

Inexpensive price

Music player

And more. So the better question is - what does the AppleWatch do beyond what the pebble does that people want? Super especially when you consider the huge negatives of AW being much more expensive and having much much shorter battery life.

So, basically what YOU want.
Does it do any of these things well? Hey, who cares really... The box are checked.

You know what does the "same "as an Iphone and fullfills 90% of its functions: a $50 Android phone.
You know what does the "same" as a BMW, a fully equipped Kia.

Guess those two companies should just fold up shop now cause you have spoken "the truth".

Never had a digital watch but the "time 2" looks good to me. Might even preorder it.

Since I work out a lot.

But I will wait for new apple watch, hopefully better battery.

And then decide.

Choices, choices...

Hard to say. The product only just went up on Kickstarter.
Lets say it does. For under $200. For peeps that want a smart watch without being fixed to a specific phone platform.
That's pretty good, no?
I don't understand the anger?

Meh, I sport a Pebble Time Round and wore a Pebble Steel before that. I like both a lot and they serve their purpose without looking like I have a toy on my wrist. If I was overly concerned with passing in fashion circles I probably wouldn't be wearing a smartwatch at all...

Why use kickstarter again? Are you allowed to use them as a store, and what are the benefits?

Pebble has been doing this for a while (even after they became successful), and I believe Sony did this also. Using Kickstarter like this can gauge the interest in the product and provide early funding. I'm still not sure if Kickstarter should be allowing this though.

I thought pebble was pretty well established. Do they really need to utilize kickstarter for new products?

OK call me conservative. I run, cycle and swim, I want something that works in these conditions.
I had an Omega Speedmaster. Expensive I hear you. I had it for more then 20 years. Fully mechanical never needs a battery, never stopped. I changed over to a Tissot Touch 2 years ago. Solar powered. Compass and Altimeter etc. Did I say it never needs a battery? I soo doo want a Heart Monitor but so far... I did give Misfit a short trial. Turned out to be very inaccurate. I rather have less functions then lots of half working stuff.
Apple needs to work on waterproof and battery and I will look at it again.
So every new entry in the market is a good thing. I hope sooner or later I will get something of the quality and looks of a Tissot and some more measurement tools onboard.

In the future you'll only have 1 cell plan - for your 'Pebble Core-type' device. This device will be on your keychain with your keys already in your pocket (or attached like a belt clip if you're not carrying keys). All devices will use this. A phone and a watch can both connect to it. But eventually, a phone will be something you won't need anymore. Just a watch.

I might ditch my phone for this if I find it makes calls and texts reliably.

I appreciate your vision, but what the hell are keys doing in your imaginary future?

Every time I imagine the future, keys are the furthest thing on my mind. If anything I'm thinking there is a box with access to all keys.

Eventually everything will simply be codes, and with locks/pay-touch-options - everything will have electronic input methods so you can just use your "box" to get everything done. Whether it be unlocking the gym locker, or paying for something at a vending machine. Might even be some sort of card, cus I don't really know what a "box" would be, but sounds awkward to have in your pocket.
