For $250? No touchscreen, no color screen, no thanks.

If the pebble had touch and colour screen you wouldn't be getting 5 to 7 days battery life, without making it bulkier. Its large enough as it is. IMO, the Pebble doesn't really need a touch screen, the physical buttons suffice.

Shouldn't this have been posted to GenericTechRumors.com or PebbleRumors.com? I see the tenuous Apple link to iWatch, but com'on let's not dilute the subject.

This is "MacandeveryotherRumors". Long story short, we all either like this fact or we move to a new website. It's not all that bad and it's not too hard to sift through it all for the Mac Rumours.

I like my current pebble and really the design of it.

These are pretty goofy looking though. I

f I want to wear a dress watch I will put on my Rolex, Tag, or Citz. If I want a fun watch I drop on my pebble or nooka, and if I'm working out it's a nike or polar.

It's not a dress watch and shouldn't be marketed as one. It's a fun day to day beater watch that has some great notification functionality to it. It makes the watch look cheaper then the rubber bands and color faces. They look like cheap Japanese knock off watches designed by someone with no style what-so-ever.

iPod Nano watch. That's the best looking idea so far.

The preview image looks like 50 shades of grey and displays the two versions in extremely unfavourable ways, imho.

Other than that - just another piece of evidence for me that smart watches aren't anywhere close to the state where I'd really be interested in owning one. They are doing their best to make them look like conventional watches (which I own several and enjoy), but maybe that's exactly the wrong approach, as it results in this "Pebble" design or Samsung's very unfortunate attempt "Galaxy Gear" which looked like an 80s casio calculator watch tribute... I hope future approaches will be thought more outside of the conventional watch box.

Not everyone has their smartphone in their pocket… or available at hand.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this watch require a data connection from some other device, such as a smartphone? I think that was the reason tigres questioned the value of this watch. I mean what are you really getting? You can look at your wrist to see a tweet instead of pulling your phone out of your pocket? Thanks. I'll pass.

I don't care who makes a "watch", almost nobody wears a watch anymore. I wore a watch 30 years ago for a couple years and finally just ditched it and never looked back. I have an iPad, an iPhone, and a MBP. I have all the "on the go" mobile access/data I would ever need or want (and with bigger screens than a watch).

Now remind me again what advantage a tiny "smart watch" would have over all my other "smart" devices?

The whole watch thing is DOA...information overload, tiny screen, and having something tied to your arm.

I'm still preferring old fashion watches. They are better built and look great. These examples below cost less than the Pebble.

Those are beautiful watches, especially the simple red banded one; problem is, the average consumer wants something more than basic functionality if they're spending $200 on a wristwatch.

Obviously many other people think different and there is a big market for conventional watches and probably also some kind of niche for the smart watches as well, but in general I think that one of the problems is that a lot of people wear watches as a fashion statement. I love switching out watches from day to day, depending on outfit and occasion, I have no clue where a Pebble, an "iWatch" or whatever is supposed to fit in there as it just kills off the entire fashion aspect. So all that is left over is the niche market. Not sure how to create a so called "next big thing" out of that....

I think the stronger connection is that it works with iOS, not that its a competitor to a potential, still nonexistent product. But I see your point. Nothing new about this Pebble other than the shell. It probably should have been posted in the iOS blog portion of MR.

Actually I do like the one with the leather band. That one has some style to it. The two metal band watches look ultra cheap like I was saying.

The smartphone passes the notification and the content to the watch ( i.e., twitter, Facebook, SMS, iMessage, email etc ), via bluetooth. Future Pebble software ( v2.0) will allow the Pebble to make connections to web services itself- which will require the phone to have a data connection.

What are you getting? Convenience - like most other devices.

Not everyone a phone in their pocket, or has immediate access to their phone for a given situation.

YMMV. A smart watch probably isn't for you.

Thank goodness. I was about to buy the old one over Christmas, but they were pushing the whole idea that they were not looking into a new watch design, just software idea a little too hard, and I didn't believe them. Bam. Right after the holidays, they announce a new one.
