Pebble just raised 13.5 Million on Kick starter to all intents and purposes that is almost 100,000 pre-orders. They will be okay.

I said they were obsolete, not that they were going out of business! Blackberry still did ok for a few years after the iPhone came out, too.

The Pebble does still have a few advantages. If you require low cost or long battery life, then the Apple Watch isn't for you. For that reason I'm sure they'll continue to sell. But the Apple Watch will probably sell more units on its first day than Pebble have ever sold!

If that was Migicovsky 'trash talking' the Apple Watch then he clearly has no future on wrestling promotions.

Pebble CEO says "he’s just not that into smartwatches that are “relegated to being an accessory to your mobile phones.”

Reading the (brief) TNW article which is the source for your link, the Pebble CEO says:

"Obviously Apple is coming into the space and they seem like they’re interested… It says iPhone, Mac, Watch [at the top of Apple’s website] so it’s going to be pretty exciting, but it’s a pretty different product.

In some ways, it’s definitely lacking, in quite a few ways, but they’re going after a pretty different market segment."

And later:

"We’re focusing on the wrist right now, it’s a big opportunity for us because we know it well.

The wrist can be a platform unto itself, it’s not just relegated to being an accessory to your mobile phones, and it can be the basis for a computing platform."

The 'just not that into smartwatches that are relegated to being an accessory to your mobile phones' comment is actually Cult of Android's own phrasing, rather than a Migicovsky quote.

Also, if you are one of those people who have Android not IOS, then Apple Watch is not for you!

A lot of people are forgetting that Pebble works with both.

Pebble is the Blackberry of Smart Watches.

It was pretty impressive for it's time and found a loyal niche of users, but it's going to be obsolete in April.

Their kickstarter says otherwise. I think the fact they are roughly half the price of the applewatch keeps them relevant. Not to mention 10 days battery life on the new model. I want to love the applewatch, and I hope it fits the bill, but I may be back to a pebble. I felt the same way about android wear, and I ended up using my pebble b.c the battery life.

And what's the tradeoff for that? - An awful screen and limited features.

I'd much rather have the features and a nice screen through charging it every night. It's hardly a big effort.

Well, to me, the biggest annoyance of the Apple Watch is that the screen is not always on. Sometimes I might be in a position where I would just like to glance at my watch out of the corner of my eye to see the time. With Apple Watch, I can't do that. I have to raise my wrist, or shake it, or whatever I'll need to do to wake it for a sec. With Pebble, the screen is always on. Then of course, it lasts for over a week, whereas the Apple Watch will only last for less than a day.

What are the features that Apple Watch will have, which will not be available on Pebble Time Steel? Just curious as I've been eyeing the Apple Watch for quite a while now, and now Pebble Time Steel is suddenly looking like the better buy.

Pebble CEO says "he’s just not that into smartwatches that are “relegated to being an accessory to your mobile phones.” Exactly what (w/o wifi or a cell chip and big honking battery to support them) can any watch do w/o a cell phone? can the Pebble send/receive text messages? Can it get news updates? Can it get the weather? NO! In fact I think the Apple Watch is more capable - it can monitor your heart beat/steps and play music w/o an iPhone.

First Off,

The current Pebble watch has :

- An inferior display compared to other smart watches.
- No ability to interact with a notification other than to dismiss it.

The new Pebble Time:

- Still has an inferior display (I don't care if my battery lasts a week if the display looks like a watch that came as a prize from a claw machine)
- Simply adding a mic to the watch does not bring it up to par with other smart watches that are out now.

The CEO of Pebble even had the nerve to call the Apple watch "lacking" ?

This is dumb. Of course a competitor is going to bash another's product. Apple does this all the time, it's not new.
