By the time this Kickstarter is delivered, the iPhone 9 will be out. Why launch something like this days before the next iPhone is released?

How will the iPhone 9 be out before then? Expected release is February 2018, new iPhones won’t be announced until September of that year. Yeah, granted there could be delays, and given the logistics I definitely see them delaying it past September 2018, but your original statement isn’t true as of now. Plus they said they have an idea for an iPhone 8 version. Having said that, I’m not backing this because despite their claim of it being slim, it looks just the opposite to me.

Wasn't the point of kickstarter being created was for people without a lot of money to get a product funded so it could begin to get produced and sold? Not for someone who already has plenty of money to offload personal wealth risk onto the end customer!

6 or 7 kickstarter/indiegogo projects in the red at the moment. decided i'm done buying make-believe products that take your money day 1 and may never ship your product within 6 months or at all even though they all say shipping next month for the impressive 10% discount and no returns policy. you know the beta version that has a bunch of issues even if you do ever actually receive it.

you know because this guy helped found Pebble so it must be good lol...

I like the concept, but it's an awful design.

Although this does look pretty r#%^*ded, got to remember that there's soon gunna be an iphone 7S and 7S+ that will have the exact same dimensions as the the previous models. So this thing will work with them too.

If you already own or will plan to own AirPods in the next six months, you're going to buy the iPhone Edition, not the 7s.

Someone can be "wealthy" but still not have enough money to start up a manufacturing project. Kickstarter is meant to bring worthy small ideas to market that otherwise might not be able to get to production and let stupid ones die peacefully.

I have to say that this doesn't look like a great design. However, I would like someone to develop third party AirPods chargers. I want something that will let me charge AirPods with the rubber hooks attached that keep them in my ears better. Right now I use these little foam donuts and they barely fit in the case while on. They're ok and come in a pack with several but I have to replace them every 2-3 weeks before they get gross and start stretching out. I've also got this reusable adhesive sticker thing on order that I'm going to test next. I've tried a brand of the hooks but they are annoying to put on and take off and end up stretching out with repeated charges. I kind of want to design something to 3D print somewhere and remove the components from an extra AirPods case (I think you can order an extra case from Apple). Then I can just make my own. Sounds like a fun project but I don't have a lot of time right now.

Every season there is some new different iPhone case designed for the current iPhone within 2 weeks of the new model being introduced.
It would seem you would want your new case to hit right at the same time as an iPhone launch. Just in my little world of people I know, everyone buys so many different cases within the first 2 months of launch and then they settle in on a particular model.
I would understand it being more difficult to get the size specs of the unreleased phones prior to launch but many case manufacturers do get this info ahead of time.
I don't know ---

I have both the 7 and AirPods. I would never buy this.

Edit: it must look even goofier from the front than the back. I've looked at the Kickstarter page pics and video and nowhere do they show this thing from the front of the phone (in fact seems like they go out of their way to only show it from the back).

This is a hard pass for me. My 7 without a case, coupled with the AirPod case is less cumbersome to put in my pocket than that case.

Also, bad timing on the heels of the 7s/8 announcement on Tuesday.

Yeah, I'm gonna pass on this. I was a longtime Pebble user, and Eric (the CEO) straight up burned everyone when they passed on their original acquisition offer of $740 million from Citizen and then sold to Fitbit for a measly $23 million. I think Citizen would've kept the Pebble brand alive (for at least a while longer) and not just strip the IP out of it like Fitbit did. Don't get me wrong, I sold my Pebble Time (the second gen color one) less than two weeks after I got it, because I saw where the company was headed, and I knew Apple was going to eat them alive. I love my Apple Watch now and couldn't see myself switching brands or anything like that. I just really liked the methodology behind Pebble, and to think their employees would've been a lot better off with that first offer just makes me sad. Eric had everyone drinking the kool-aid till it was too late. 10/10 would definitely not back anything this guy puts out ever again. He just seems like he wants to fit in with the Zuckerberg/Bezos/Cook's of the world, and he never will. Time for a real job man.

Also, I think the product is really stupid, regardless of Eric's involvement.

After Pebble was acquired by Fitbit late last year, Pebble said that its hardware devices would continue to function as normal for at least another year, with any future support for its services heading into 2018 unclear. Today, Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky has revealed his next project, and it's a Kickstarter for a case aimed at the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus that also charges AirPods, called "PodCase" (via Engadget).

The Kickstarter page describes the case as a "slim case" for carrying and charging both the iPhone and AirPods, thanks to a 2500 mAh battery. That'll provide up to one full charge for the iPhone 7 (with a 1,960 mAh battery), although not quite enough for a full charge of the iPhone 7 Plus (with a 2,900 mAh battery). That's also equivalent to "up to 40 AirPod charges," according to the PodCase's crowdfunding page.
The case itself is charged through USB-C, so those with the newest MacBook models will be able to fuel up PodCase through their existing chargers. A design for the iPhone 8 is said to be coming soon, but the company is waiting for the September 12 Apple event to confirm the accessory's design.

PodCase will retail for $99, but early bird Kickstarter backers will be able to buy the accessory for $79. The PodCase team also includes Avegant co-founder Allan Evans and Pebble industrial designer Steve Johns. Check out the PodCase Kickstarter page here for more information on the accessory, including a video introduction by Migicovsky.

The Kickstarter's goal is $300,015 in 30 days, and the PodCase's shipping date is estimated for February 2018.

[doublepost=1504818339][/doublepost]"Pebble said that its hardware devices would continue to function as normal for at least another year".

I have a functioning 300 year old metronome, a 12 year old car, 15 year Canondale bike amongst other devices that will outlast me, as long as I treat them with care.

Todays electronics are expected to last one or two years......

What is going on? It is a crazy world we live in.
We pay a premium for stuff that is designed to stop functioning when ever the next edition is for sale.

Insane, but true.

Look at how many people complain about the iPhone camera sticking out a fraction of an inch and barely causing the phone to not sit completely flat. Now look at what this thing does.

Looks like a joke IMO, You've gotta use the Airpods an awful lot to justify strapping them to your iPhone and carrying such a bulky case all the time....

Exactly.

Part of the appeal of the AirPods is the tiny charging case... and the fact that it's separated from the phone and you don't have to carry them if you don't want to.

But with this... it's strapped on all the time. And it would be a pain to take your phone in-and-out often.

KickStarter is becoming a comedy channel. :p
