Fitbit Blaze - 5-7 days battery life. Notifications that actually work (unlike any Pebble I owned) and a color screen with very good fitness tracking built in.

Don't doubt it has a set of good features and am not holding a grudge against Fitbit (though they've missed a big opportunity to buy Pebble customer goodwill through this) - but the Blaze just doesn't look as good as the PT or PTS to my eyes

I remember being one of the first few hundred kick starters on the OG pebble. Still have it and as far as I know it still work. The company started from nothing and made a decent product (wasn't for me, I rarely wore it but I was also in the Marines at the time and watches of that type were frowned upon in uniform). They also somehow persuaded kickstarters to back almost every new idea and model they had. If this CEO/company/board whatever didn't accept anything above 30 million they are nuts. The watch thing is getting big enough that all the big players have new models coming out that outshine pebble so it is just a downhill battle from here. This way, assuming with all the kickstarter campaigns they weren't in debt, they walk away multi-millionaires for an idea they were going to lose the battle on anyway. Now if it was me I would build a secret hideaway in Colorado and work on my next project not really caring if it ever even came to light.

Not buying a Fitbit. Or an Apple watch. Ignoring the cost and ugliness of the watch, does it even work with Android? That to me was another key point of the Pebble. It worked well on either platform.
Yes, Fitbit Blaze does work with Android.

It's the nearest to Pebble that you can find for the money and obviously is still supported by a company still going.

I agree! The Pebble Time Steel was really well designed! The closest watch to it is the Apple Watch.

The Fitbit Blaze is the closest to a smart watch and fitness tracker. Not that expensive either (via CEX).

Exactly why I would never buy a smart watch the company can decide how long the life span is.

Rather buy a Breitling and have it working for decades
Now I have used a smart watch, I would never consider buying an expensive overpriced watch with limited functionality again!

I was considering buying an Omega a few years ago. When I found out they just use off the shelf movements and tweak them slightly (the movements cost anything from $5-$100) paying $4000 for an Omega branded case and strap seems a bit pointless! Wearing a normal watch now seems very limited! Great if you live in the 70s though :)

Apple did the same thing with the Apple Watch. Same internals, one case is steel/alu, the other gold. Doh!

I meant the Apple watch.
No android support. They don't even support their own products (iPad/iPod touch). If they did they would sell a few more.

I bought an original Pebble Watch for my 6-year-old son a week before the infamous email went out. I saw a deal on Groupon for $40 and jumped on it. I tried to cancel the order when I read the email from the Pebble CEO, but the watch had shipped the previous day.

My son has been begging me for an Apple watch, but I think an Apple Watch for a 6-year-old who doesn't even own an iPhone and is just now learning how to tell time on an analog watch face is too much. So, I figured a cheap Pebble would be a good introduction into smart watches for my son. He will probably break the watch before Pebble services discontinue. However, I still think it's outrageous that no government agency is intervening to make sure the services are supported for a long time and the warranty terms are honored. I'm sure Pebble would want to honor their commitment to the faithful customers who supported them since the inception of the first Pebble Watch, but Pebble was probably in such bad financial state that they really had no choice. Fitbit, on the other hand, needs to be slapped by the regulators for this outrageous lack of respect for the customers of the company they just bought.

Its sad you immediately jump to "government agency" to protect something that is technically fleeting. We all knew it was a risk when we bought the watch. No government agency is going to remove risk. If you want something that will last along time and tell time, get a sun dial, but that is only good for about 10,000 yrs as the earth wobbles on its axis. Will the government agency stop that? I understand your frustration with pebble, but looking towards government is not the answer.

I developed a Pebble app (Volleyball Referee Timer) several years ago, and have updated it regularly. I actually know a bunch of referees that purchased a Pebble just to use my app. Now I need to consider writing a similar app for Apple Watch. It won't be the same. There were three huge advantages to the Pebble:
  1. Physical buttons for the various timers.
  2. Long battery life (I'm skeptical that the Apple Watch could last for a long full-day tournament).
  3. Coding for the Pebble is simpler.
Here's hoping that FitBit does something worthwhile with the Pebble technology that they just bought! Maybe my app will be reincarnated on a future FitBit device.
I wore my Apple Watch Series 2 for 20 hours straight with the workout running the entire time. It had 40% left when I took it off.

A group of developers are setting out to reverse engineer and keep the services running, or packaging them into something you can download and run yourself, which is an interesting thought: http://rebble.io/

But given Pebbles track record and financially unstability these past few years, I understand your point. Considering Apple's longevity and commitment, I'm not to worried about the Apple Watch being banished.

Given your track record how you intentionally state erroneous post(s) on Macrumors, including this article, It's evident you know nothing about The Apple Watch. Please don't imitate the fact you have knowledge of this product. You're not fooling me with a snide Apple Watch comment.
