Maybe that's the problem because I'm not talking about what you are talking about. I just voiced an opinion on why Pebble isn't likely to sink without trace just because an iWatch appears on the market.
I think you are missing the point of my post. I was commenting on your statement that Apple would never support Android and therefore would not be an option for the Android market. I feel there are two different ways a smartwatch can go wrt phone connectivity: Bluetooth only and wifi/LTE.
If Apple were to release an iWatch that could only connect using bluetooth, then your original statement would be perfectly valid. I do not think Apple would allow bluetooth connectivity with Android phones and, therefore, would leave a huge void in the smart watch category as you said.
For that very reason, I do not think Apple would go this route and loose out on millions of potential sales. Apple does not have to support android phones in order to tap into the android user base. Just think if Apple gave the iWatch wifi/LTE connectivity. Instead of getting notifications from their iPhone through bluetooth, they would get it directly from iCloud. This means people could potentially buy an iWatch without ever owning an iPhone (or any smartphone for that matter). So, it would not matter if you are an android user, an iOS user, a windows phone user, etc. you can still buy and use an iWatch. As with any Apple product, it pays to stay in the Apple ecosystem, you are right about that. I dont see the iWatch being any different. Its still going to work with iMessage and facetime and all the Apple only stuff your familiar with. You might even be able to use it as a gesture based controller for your Apple TV! Now that would be cool!
But I agree with you, Pebble is going nowhere anytime soon. With or without an iWatch announcement. I just got an email from MapMyRun saying they now support Pebble and now I want one... BAD!
