Yeah, good luck Pebble. With Apple around the corner and much better Android alternatives your days are numbered.

You all doubled sales because you drastically lowered the price right when the Apple Watch was announced.

Pebble is a fine watch. Nite we'll be willing to spend $99-150 than $24 for Android or $349 for Apple. Sure Apple will sell but to say pebble has limited days is a stretch

I've had a pebble since day one - it's days are numbered. It'll be lucky to make it to the end of 2016 without going under or being bought out. Laggy UI and overpriced

i backed Pebble on Kickstarter. Still wear it daily, but it's due a replacement - if only for the screen corruption I'm getting. Plus it's a bit beaten up now. In general though, it's been a fantastic device. I love that I can jump in my car, tap the middle button 3 times and music starts playing. I don't even need to look.

I'm headed state-side in the summer so was going to replace it then with either a Pebble Steel or an Apple Watch (I keep flip-flopping between the two). So what I'll say to Pebble is: If you've got something awesome coming, you need to tell people what it is BEFORE the Apple Watch comes out, or you'll lose a lot of potential customers who will have bought an Apple Watch already.

I have owned 4 pebble watches. 2 of the first gen plastic model and 2 pebbles of the 'steel' variety. I hate them. But I love a smart watch. I work at construction sites. To loud to hear a ringer and often to much movement and/activity to feel a phone vibration. Try running a dozer and feeling a phone vibration. A smart watch is clutch as the wrist vibration can't be missed. All of my Pebble watches have sucked. Software issues, first gen hardware issues, battery life fading. It is a matter of weeks before the thing fails to work enough it warrants a return. Their problem is they need to be replaced yearly. They are disposable. Cheap. Lacking consistent functionality without a glitch or restart needed.

Can't wait for Apple's superior materials and software to solve my problems.

I like apple, but if you think a delicate bit of tech is going to fare well at a construction site, you are sorely mistaken. I intend on getting an apple watch, but I think you are setting your expectations a tad high. I have an original kickstarter pebble that still works perfectly. I wear it daily. If you have trashed four of them, it's work related. These things are tough and keep going.

The Pebble is still in the $200 range if you want one that looks better than the basic model, but even that one still looks horrible compared to the Moto 360 and Apple Watches.

Remember the watches aren't just about what they do and the price it's a fashion statement for many.

And for many it's not.

And again - the Pebble is cross-platform. So if you have an iPhone - you're talking about at least $150 difference. To suggest that pricing doesn't affect the buying decision or perceived value to "many" is naive. And that's not about people being cheapskates (another poster's phrase) - it's about lowering the barrier of resistance to adopt in the first place.

For example (and yes, I am only one use case) I had no desire for a smart watch. At all. Then I got a Pebble because when I got it, I was able to get it for around $79. I immediately found that it did have some great use cases for me as I usually have my ringer off. Had no desire for the Apple Watch or Android Wear. Why would I - Pebble was doing everything I needed and I wasn't about to fork over $200/250 given that I had the Pebble. But then there was a Groupon for the LG G smart watch. Got it for $80 because I figured - even if I hated it - $80 was worth playing around a bit. Now my Pebble sits in my drawer.

My decision didn't have anything to do with whether or not I could afford it, fashion, etc. It wasn't even need vs. want.

Smart watches are still in their infancy as far as adoption rates. And there is actually plenty of room in the market for Apple, Android Wear and the Pebbles and Fitbits.

This is a great endorsement for the pebble. I bought an LG Android Smart Watch, Now my Pebble sits in my drawer. I'm sure Pebble will love that on their ads.

Pebble 1 year = bankrupt.

You missed the point of my post entirely. Congratulations. Just curious why you're are seemingly "excited" to predict Pebble's "death?" Is there something in it for you if Pebble goes out of business?

No I got your point, price matters.

I just chose to reply to the part I wanted. That you didn't actually want a pebble, you wanted the LG. Well people who bought the pebble will want the Apple Watch.

Seriously the Pebbles days are numbered. No one is going to spend more than 50 bucks on that thing after they try an Apple Watch.

And no there's nothing in it for me, apart from being right.

I have a Pebble and LG G Watch.

Pebble Advantages:

- Cheap
- Works on iOS and Android
- You can see the screen clearly in sunlight
- Fitness tracker (Misfit and Up)
- Battery lasts 7-8 days with Fitness tracker running 24/7
- Along with the screen being on 24/7
- 50m water resistant
- Vibrating alarm

LG G Watch Advantages:

- Cheap (£80-£100 on eBay for a new one)
- Touchscreen and colour
- Step counting (for me, I used to have a Withings Pulse and this replaces that, because the Withings app reads all the steps from Google Fit).
- Very high quality compared to the Pebble
- Traffic updates (so you know how long you will take to go home, all automatic)
- Voice recognition. I used it last night trying to get my two year old to sleep, I said, ok google, show me peppa pig and lots of photos appeared on the watch, very convenient
- Vibrates with notifications
- Android only
- 3-4 days battery life (turn off the screen and tilt to view)

I like both very much. I can't wait to see the Apple iWatch.

Remember the Gameboy, Atari Lynx, Game Gear? Feels like that now. Which one won that? The worst spec one with the green screen because it had amazing battery compared to the other two.

Lets see what happens! :)

No you missed the point. I had a Pebble for over a year before getting the LG. And I didn't want an LG - I bought one on a whim/impulse to just try it out given the low cost of entry.

And I simply disagree with you. You can't speak for everyone. And the Apple watch only works with the latest iOS devices. You realize that there are millions of people who don't own iOS devices, thus rendering an Apple watch not REALLLLLLY an option right?

People who don't own iPhones will get Android Wear. Like you did.

You're being obtuse.

Not everyone is going to spend 200+ for a bunch of features they may not want.

Pebble's "worst" enemy isn't the Apple Watch or Android Wear. It's Fit Bit and those devices which are lower cost and have similar capabilities.

You're under the invalid belief that Android watches are not going to reduce in price. They will. And those products like Fit Bit are going to have hard competition from Apple and Android watch makers which are building in fitness features.

And again the Pebble is already 129 Euros. It's hardly cheap, you can get Android watches for the same price here.

What a terrible analogy.

The Apple Watch will kill any and all competitors. Just like the iPod, iPhone and iPad did before. There are already better alternatives to Pebble, just not iOS based.

I own a Pebble Steel and while I too will be purchasing an apple watch, I wouldn't count out pebble either. The pebble steel is an amazing watch that I wear every day. In my opinion the pebble steel looks better than the apple watch when wearing it to work.. It looks more like a normal watch than the apple watch and fits in without drawing too much attention. I'm worried that the apple watch will be viewed like a cellphone at some companies. Many places don't allow you to be on your phone at work.. I feel they won't want you to be texting people from your watch then either.
Most people don't even realize I have a smart watch on when I wear my pebble steel black, which by the way is perfect in size, looks amazing alongside professional attire, and has fantastic battery life. It would have been hard to check the royals World Series game scores at work without it!
I am upgrading to apple watch for the features it will have that go alongside my iPhone, but at its price point, the pebble is an amazing watch.

Unfazed?

They are widely, deeply and massively fazed. But there's simply nothing they can do about it other than stick to their guns and hope for the best.

Perhaps there will still be a market for a lower-priced, lower-functionality, higher-battery-life device after the Apple Watch comes out. (That market might even get stronger since Apple has the potential to grow the smart watch market.)

It's hard to see how their higher-end stainless steel watch will hold up though. Once someone starts to care about how it looks enough to spend significantly more money, why would they stop half way?

First of all, I think Pebble steel is expensive at $200. Even their plastic one is expensive at $100. I wouldn't mind paying $200 for it if it looked better. Bezels are way too big, plus i don't really like their "pebble" lettering on the front. They need to come up with maybe some better logo. It is the most functional watch for apple users as of now. I wish you could do replies with it, but I know that's apples fault and software issue. That's one function that i want. To be able to reply to texts. I don't think it looks that good. If the design was better I wouldn't mind paying 200 for it. I don't wanna even talk about the plastic one. It looks ugly. It something that a small kid would wear. I'm waiting for Apple watch. I'm sure it will be great. All the people that complain about it, just let it go. Its not even out yet. Go find another hobby. Once its released and you used it and have it on your hand, then complain all you want about it. $350 is not bad. If it has more features, looks better, its made of better materials, then 350 is not bad. I'm sure you will be able to pick them up on sale for less than that.

"We have to let go of this notion that for Apple to win, Microsoft has to lose." - Steve Jobs

Replace Microsoft by Pebble, the same idea applies but I'm using it in the reverse context here. Pebble can still be successful even if Apple sells millions of watches.

As for the price, I also agree with most readers here. Pebble would sell a lot more units if prices were cut in half. The plastic model at 49$USD and the steel one at 99$USD would be hard to compete with. I'm not a fan of watches in general but at 49$USD I'd be tempted to get one just to mess around and code for it.

I hope the new model has a microphone and better language support. That's the only two things I really feel are missing with the current version.

I might get an Apple Watch a few generations down the line, if and when it can get at least ⅔ the battery life of my Pebble. Until they have me as a loyal customer at least.

I'm not surprised they're unfazed. I still can't believe Apple think it's okay to release a watch that needs to be charged every day.

I charge my iPhone everyday. Even my Galaxy Note 4 friend charges his everyday too. Face it batteries aren't that great yet.

Funny post. People are automatically cheapskates because they don't want or need the functions of a smart watch that iOS/Android are going to provide? There's plenty of room in the marketplace for Pebble.

I think there's plenty of room for Pebble to compete in this wearables market on the low end. For those that just want a low price and simple features the pebble will suit them. The $99 dollar price point for Pebble may be their ceiling though. But, Pebble should watch out for LG. LG has some cool smart watches in the same price point that seem pretty cool from what I've seen.

Yeah, but cell phones have always been that way. Heck, smartphones actually provide way more talk time than the old school phones did; it's just their other bells and whistles that cause the battery to drain so quickly.

A watch is another story. People are used to their watches running months if not years on a single battery. Now obviously that isn't practical with a smartwatch, but Pebble does set the bar at roughly a week's worth of use. This is especially nice if you want to use your watch as a silent wake-up. Furthermore, Apple is trying to appeal to the health crowd too, and the devices in that market tend to get much better battery life as well.

The Apple Watch will create Pebbles market

Almost nobody purchased tablets before the iPad. Then the $500 and $400 iPad essentially kick started a new tablet market for millions of $100 and $200 Android tablets (Not everybody has taste and can afford the best). In the same way, the $350 to $500 Apple Watch will create the huge new market for $100 to $250 smart watches for less wealthy customers.

Right in Pebble's price range.

And the hard problems (same as with smartphones) will be software and battery life, where Pebble already has a big head start over the other lower price watch makers. I can already use the Pebble SDK to write some pretty powerful stand-alone (no phone needed) watch apps, and only need to recharge my Pebble once or twice a week.

In that regard, the Pebble is way ahead of the Apple Watch.

But I'll still get an Apple Watch, because next year Apple will release a real watch app SDK.
