Still on Series 0, which works okay for my modest needs. It is slow to start a work out, especially since OS4, but I just load that app and then change clothes. It's usually ready to go after that!
I have a hard time swapping between workouts.... the workout screen comes up fine but I can't switch between them for like 40 seconds to a minute sometimes.

Mine loads okay, but it won't let me select a workout mode for several seconds.
I wish mine was only several seconds.... mine is sometimes 40-60 seconds.

watchOS 4.3 betas have really made some speed improvements to the software, even series 0. Check out the watchOS beta thread.

If Series 3 is selling as well as people say it is (compared to earlier models) then without numbers the only conclusions you can draw from this graph are that series 3 is selling at a much higher rate than series 1.

As his userbase grows with people new to apple watch (who can't buy series 0 and 2 watches in most stores) then of course this will dilute the percentages of earlier models "in use". The conclusions people are drawing from this data could well be false.

You can see in the AW what the general tech adoption curve is. Release 1 = enthusiasts and fanboys. Release 2 -> hit a bunch of big niche markets.. Release 3 -> more niches and features, general adoption.

Over time, the public learns more about the various uses of the device and adoption grows.

The original AW was packed with stuff, but really tried to push the "connectedness" of the AW. That was dropped in R2 and R3, for a focus on health/working out/wellness. Hardcore tech users like the notification aspect, but the general public is more about health/fitness/wellness/fashion.

Apple's lucky in that it was able to continue on from R1 to R3. These days the AW is everywhere, and if it were any other company the AW success would be all over the trade press. As it is, it's just another product lost in the crowd.

Haven’t been following the watch lately...
I have the original watch (non sport with sapphire glass)
Is sapphire glass not an option anymore??
That’s a deal breaker for me. I originally had the watch sport and got the glass all scratched up. So upgraded when Best Buy had a deal.
I can’t find on the Apple site the specs where it says if is regular glass or sapphire glass.
[doublepost=1521080483][/doublepost]Never mind. Found it. So sapphire is only available to to edition. That’s a bummer

Someone humor me since I haven’t really followed up on Watch all that much.

Why does Apple continue to sell Series 1 but not Series 2 (I get why they don’t sell 0 anymore)? Granted, I didn’t even realize that there was an original and three series. I thought Series 3 was actually the third watch... oops.

I’ve been curiously eyeing the Series 3 because my bf loves his, but it just looks so chunky (and he has the smaller one). I hope Apple slims it down some, if that’s possible.

Cuz the series one is for cheap people like me. Think of it as the SE of watches. Some of us don’t need water proof and GPS.

The Series 2 would not really "fit" in the lineup. There would be too much overlap with the Series 2 imo. They would have to drastically drop the price of the Series 2 to have it make sense.

Both the Stainless models and Edition models have the sapphire glass.

interesting. well i only ever do one kind of workout (so no scrolling) and i guess it does take a second or two to start but since you said you were going to change it made me think it took 1-2 minutes to respond.

Not true. Also available on the standard SS versions.

How much actual gold is in that $17k watch? I'm sure it has a reasonable scrap value.

Frankly if you spend $17k on an Apple Watch you probably don't care about the value anyway.

What is the y-scale? Is that thousands of users, millions, or is that the exact scale? If the latter, then surely the press this guy has gotten with a sample of about 100 users has proven a brilliant PR move - well done sir.

Which was why it was always stupid for Apple to originally push the device as a fashion statement. Everyone knew that its hardware would be left behind making its software unbearable and thus turning it into an expensive paperweight.

Nah, that did precisely what Apple wanted it to - countered the 'omg ewwwww it's square' arguments and appealed to the higher end crowd. Once they'd got that out of the way they broadened the appeal to bring in all the people whose attention was caught by the news of the Apple Watch being sold in fashion boutiques, etc.

I use Series 0 with watchOS 2. Still 75% of batterypower left after a day and it does everything I want, it's a really nice watch!

I would be highly interested to know the sales numbers/units sold for the gold Edition Apple Watch when it first launched in April 2015. Being that all Apple Watches share the same watchOS, anybody that purchased the gold Edition Apple Watch was strictly for aesthetics.

Doesn't this just show older watches breaking down and being replaced by newer model? They aren't Swiss made.

I think Apple have to be careful here. It’s still a watch after all. All watches should be able to tell the time, whether you bought one in 1980 or last year.

They should guarantee that they will support all these units until there isn’t any being used (which they can tell from usage data).

I think it will create a bad precedent if they stop supporting a watch that could have cost someone over a $1000 in just 3 yrs.

Also, the Swiss companies will have a field day if Apple did this. Just imagine the marketing angle.. “Rolex for life, Apple for 3 yrs.. are you crazy?”

I’m still using my series 0. Don’t really feel the need to upgrade because I just use it as a watch that gives me notifications and tracks my training. I have yet to hear of any apps that are must haves that mean I really need the latest version. Anyone got an app on the watch that’s transformed their lives???

As someone that upgraded from the series 0 to the series 3...what an upgrade!

I feel the S3 is ultimately what Apple should've launched with, it's lightning fast and just works.
Tend to agree with that. Had to fall back to my series 0 for two days due to broken screen and what a pain.
Series 0 feels now like a product that should not have launched but it was necessary at the time. Without the experience gained, S3 and watchOS wouldn’t where they are now.

I struggle to get through the day with my S0 battery life. It has degraded significantly with os4. Apple confirmed the battery is healthy but after 12-13h it’s dead. What is your experience ? I had it for 2 1/2yrs

David Smith, the developer behind the popular Pedometer++ app for iPhone and Apple Watch, today shared some interesting user data that offers insight into Apple Watch adoption rates, and specifically, how quickly he's seen Apple Watch Series 3 adoption grow.

Smith looked at data collected from August 1, 2017 (a month before the debut of the Apple Watch Series 3) to March 14, 2018. During that time, he's seen rapid growth in the number of active Pedometer++ users who have an Apple Watch Series 3, and a steady decline in users who have an Apple Watch Series 0 or an Apple Watch Series 2, both of which are now discontinued.

applewatchadoptionpedometerapp-800x501.jpg

Just under 35 percent of Pedometer++ users now have an Apple Watch Series 3, while around 24 percent have an Apple Watch Series 0, down from more than 40 percent in August of 2017.

According to Smith, he's been keeping a close eye on Apple Watch Series 0 usage rates because he's hoping that Apple will soon drop support for the original Apple Watch, which he describes as a "bit painful" to develop for.By contrast, Smith says the new Apple Watch Series 3 is "a delight to work with" because it's fast, capable, and has LTE functionality that allows for new kinds applications. Smith is hoping watchOS 5 will drop support for the original Apple Watch, which is why he tracks falling Series 0 usage rates, but he does admit that the device is still adequate for many users who just need basic functionality.

When watchOS 5 launches, presumably this September, the original Apple Watch will be more than three years old, and Smith believes, that based on current trends, Series 0 usage could be as low as 15 to 20 percent in his Pedometer++ app, which presumably is reflective of overall usage rates.

For comparison's sake, Apple ended support for the original iPhone, released in 2007, in 2010 when the fourth-generation version of iOS was released. Support for the first-generation iPod touch, also released in 2007, ended with the same operating system update.

Apple ended support for the first-generation iPad, released in 2010, with the launch of iOS 6 in 2013.

Apple clearly has a history of ending support for first-generation devices after a few years, but it's not yet clear if the company will do the same for the original Apple Watch. Some of the original Apple Watch models, which were offered in 18-Karat gold, were priced at up to $17,000, so Apple could have unhappy customers when support for the device eventually ends.

For more of Smith's Apple Watch adoption analysis, make sure to check out his full blog post.

For a while I wondered if I was the only one suffering with this issue. Pretty much do the same thing, sometimes the rings app fails to load for a while. Definitely going to have to consider upgrading sometime this year or early next.
I believe the latest WatchOS beta fixes this, so wait till the official update and it should be quick again. I have a series 0 as well (SS).
[doublepost=1521110757][/doublepost]Be interesting to know what other devs think. Sleep++ is shockingly bad.

PedoMeter is such an unfortunate name.
According to Freudian science, every human mind does carry some element of it.
I am so happy that AppleWatch allows us to analyse ourselves (keeping privacy in mind)
Healthkit AI is soo advanced...;)
