Double down on security, Tim? .....

It shows one thing. Apple does not have his hands on these reports. So they are real whatever they say..

It is FAR easier to do so when plans are crafted and executed in the U.S. (who knew about the upcoming Mac Pro?) as opposed things happening in Chinese factories (any worker with a camera can start a rumor).

Clap-Clap-Clap-Clap, nice speech, but I have a great career that unfortunately saw better days and business began to dry up for me not too long ago I ended up homeless, didn't know where my next meal was coming from. Fast forward 2 years and now I'm sitting here posting to MR on my 27" iMac. I certainly know what's it's like to be poor so heaven help U before you decide that everyone on MR is in a better place than people working in a poor country. I have been more than thankful that my work-life has gotten a lot better financially and guess what, it's still very stressful work but I am more appreciative for having it than I ever was and so should these Apple workers.

So it's not like you're bitter or anything

Apple gave them job? Are those jobs directly from Apple? If Apple gave them job, then we should blame Apple for poor working condition.

Those worker might not even know they spilling trade secrete. Is there any trade secrete left for Apple? We known them all along before the product released.

I'm finished, honestly, because I KNOW you understood my point that people are given a job, nobody has a right to a job. If the working conditions aren't great then people need to move on. If it's tough to find a job then people have to stick it out if they want to eat. I've had to so please spare me of how hard their lives are, you have no idea how my life has been and for you to assume that I have a good education to fall back on is just you being uninformed.

I think it's you that's bitter, tbh. I wasn't the only one that felt your post was ridiculous.

At least these crappy colours explain the similar colour scheme on the iOS7 icons, nothing against a plastic phone just the dayglow pastel look.

A black or white plastic phone will likely be lighter, more comfortable in the hand and more durable than the anodised aluminium used currently so I'm all for it.

These phones don't look any cheaper than the end result of a majority of phone buyers who wrap their phones in some colored plastic "protector" anyway. The bottom line is whether it will be of competitive quality versus other $99 smart phone options. I can't think of many (if any) phones at that entry level that AREN'T plastic, so I think the answer will prove to be a "yes".

I'd love to see the break down of sales per colour.

Can't believe many would choose that ugly orange. What is it with Apple and pastel colours?? It's almost as bad as Zune Brown.

Give me deep reds or blues and you may get my money :)

so original.

newsflash -- people in china and india arent in the market for $650 USD phones. they want cheap.

I think a lot of people in US, UK etc would also like cheap. Not everyone comes to sites like this. Most just want a phone which they will put in a plastic case anyway.

That won't stop people hell bent on looking like morons.
Hey, don't mock them. They suffer from a syndrome called Scullyosis, named after the skeptic on X-Files. The patients think they look cool and clever if they categorically dismiss every rumor as unsubstantiated and every leaked picture as a bad Photoshop job.

If left untreated, the scullyosis will eventually take over their lives to the point where perception of reality crumbles entirely. The most severe cases can be found wandering the streets aimlessly, stopping only to point at various objects such as trees or buildings, and telling bystanders "Fake. Fake. Fake. Cropping artifacts. Fake. So fake. Unrealistic shadows. Fake. Fake."

It looks 'C' heap.

I believe that's the point of a cheaper phone...and I agree with you! They do need it for China sales, and I think you will find more younger folks with them...a cheaper alternative for mom and dad (but no cheaper on the data!)...

That made my day!

Those things look so damn cheap and ugly. Every phone on the market looks much better. It looks like something you'd get out of a bubblegum machine for 25 cents.

Don't worry, it will look much better in Apple's official product shots.
And for a fee of only $7,500 per day, Apple's photographer will follow you around and light your phone in an aesthetically pleasing way.

... Pegatron has, however, been growing rapidly as Apple has been seeking to balance and expand its supply chain to provide more stability and flexibility. ...

Where "seeking to balance" means "keeping Foxconn honest."

And "expand its supply chain to provide more stability and flexibility" means "preparing for the new 2-model iPhone lineup, without the need to make any iPhone model for more than one year."

This year: "5S" and "5C"
iPhone 5S (16GB $199 / 32 GB $299 / 64GB $399: A7 chip, fingerprint sensor)
iPhone 5C (16GB $99: A6 chip, no fingerprint sensor)
iPhone 5C (8GB $0)

2014: "the new iPhone" and "the new iPhone C"
iPhone (16GB $199 / 32 GB $299 / 64GB $399: A8 chip, new features)
iPhone C (16GB $99: A7 chip, minus some key high-end iPhone features)
iPhone C (8GB $0)

2015: "the new iPhone" and "the new iPhone C"
iPhone (16GB $199 / 32 GB $299 / 64GB $399: A9 chip, new features)
iPhone (16GB $99: A8 chip, minus some key high-end iPhone features)
iPhone (8GB $0)

Meanwhile, iPad and iPad mini will likewise be replaced by each year's new models.

This year:
iPad (4th gen) production stops, iPad (5th gen) production starts.
iPad mini (1st gen) production stops, iPad mini (2nd gen) production starts.

This would give Foxconn and Pegatron more floor space for new model production, since
there would be only 2 production lines instead of 3 (new iPhone, 1-year old, and 2-year old.)
It would also solve the bizarre iPhone naming problem by next year.
Just my $0.02.

Please, don't be so pompous. Just because you can afford top shelf does mean everyone can. The plastic phone is aimed at those who might not be as financially fortunate as yourself.

I agree with this statement. Apple has not really tapped the mid to low end smartphone market other then offering last years or two year old phones at better prices. This phone lets them compete for the more budget minded customer that has been going Android. With the rumor that the Moto X could be released with an off contract price of $299 and $349 depending on storage Apple needs to have something current that will compete in this market.

The only downside for some people is that it might "cheapen" the reputation of the iPhone if you own one because somehow you think it makes you look rich.

As much as these leaks can be "fun" for many of us here I have to say I don't really appreciate all these trade secrets coming out like this. Leaking the plastic body is one thing but the multiple colors is just rude. Since the new iPhone hasn't been released or announced yet this gives Samsung a chance to copy. I liked it better when nobody knew what Apple was doing and only minimal "supposed leaks" were out on the web.

Hilarious post - yeah leaking the colors of the iPhone plastic shell is a true definition of "rudeness"

Better question is - why do YOU care so much about Apple's corporate interests? I like and use Apple products, but at the end of the day - Apple is just another multi-billion dollar multinational corporation, which cares nothing for me or my well-being. Equally, I can care less about their "trade secrets" being leaked by some poor Chinese manufacturing worker.

Yep, just as I thought. I checked your post history. Seems as though you enjoy reprimanding other member for what they post, didn't stop with me.

Did you mean that you Couldn't Care Less? ;)

This is Tim Cook at his very best, producing a low-cost product taking advantage of his supply-chain genius.

Meanwhile, Steve Jobs is raging from the afterlife.

Maybe they can get tips from Nokia about how to use quality plastic housing.

Has to be one of the best Apple leaks ever. :D

PS I hope they didn't get fired. They were only doing their job. Someone should have edited it out.

The plastic housing on the iPhone 3GS was very high in quality and construction.

It looks cheap simply because there is plastic film on-top of the case. As always with Apple the device will be nice when holding it. And - I would love to see this being the first step to differentiate more/better. Imitate the work done with the iPod-portfolio.
