Before I bought my Peloton, I had Schwinn IC4 for use with Apple fitness and the Peloton Apple TV content. On peloton, the instructors call out exact resistance, and Apple Fitness+ instructors are very vague with their call outs (eg. heavy, moderate, etc...)

What I like about Peloton is the content. Content is key. Also, it's the only bike I know of that uses Apple GymKit. My Bike+ has auto resistance and I don't even have to think about how heavy I should be pedaling. I just ride to the cadence goal that's on my screen - resistance is automatic. Also, I like the variety of classes... Peloton content puts the Apple Fitness content to shame. The only thing I like about Apple Fitness is everything is in 4K. Another thing Peloton does for me is every now and then gets me to race on the leaderboard and then I really push myself.

Since I got my Peloton, I've been exercising daily. Nothing has motivated me like this before. I dropped my gym membership and I'm getting way more value for my $$ now. I don't care what anyone thinks of this - it's what works for me. Peloton and Apple seem like a perfect match.

No true Scotsman, eh?

If we define “real” athletes as those who perform as a profession, Garmin definitely has dominance in that market niche, but as Apple improves its software, hardware, and API’s that will diminish. Competitive cyclists really don't have an alternative to Garmin for the time being though with sensor integration and industry-leading accessories that I don't see Apple competing with.

But Apple is probably pretty pleased with its first place marketshare at 30% compared to Garmin’s tie at 5th 4.1% market share.
Don’t get me wrong. Apple make great smart watches. I own one as well.

It doesn’t make a very good sport watch.

Apple collects all these data and does nothing of value.

Garmin does. Recovery data, sleep performance, race performance prediction, etc. That’s my point.

Add to that Garmin also records power, in addition to cadence which is more import to cyclists than heart rate.

But you know I guess we are the 4.1%

Great work and attitude. Keep at it!

Pelowhoo? Bike lol. Maybe for spinners IMO.

Maybe peloton should license out their software to other manufacturers.

This thread is full of people that have never had their butts or feet on a Peloton product, let alone have any clue what they are talking about.

I just don't think I could ever justify spending a monthly fee on a piece of workout equipment that lives in my house. I'm so sick of subscriptions....
You can use it as an exercise bike without a subscription. You just lose the classes with instructors. If you like spin classes, it's worth it. If you don't, it's not. It's actually a good value if you consider all the classes (spin and otherwise) to which you have access.

What did you think of the build quality of the current Schwinn spin bikes? Do you have any experience with their AC model?
I don't have any experience with the AC model - only the IC4. I think the Schwinn IC4 is a GREAT bike for the price. I picked it up second hand for $400 on fb market. It's sitting in my basement gathering dust now - for me to use in case my Peloton bike breaks and I will have something I can keep using while I wait for repairs on my peloton (hopefully this never happens). I do however, think the Peloton Bike+ is better build quality. Schwinn IC4 is quieter. It's great to use as a peloton hack (alongside the QZ Fitness IOS App) - but I simply love the Peloton so much more.

Wow, a company that listens to their customers?!?! Are you seeing this GM? Good job Peloton.
They didn't exactly have a choice. They made a stupid decision and realised they were going to see lawsuits on their hands. For a company that is barely managing to stay afloat, this was not a decision made to benefit the customer. It was made to save Peloton's rear end for another few months.

Perhaps Peloton realized that if they stop supporting GymKit a lot of people would stop subscribing to their $24/mo Peloton App+ service which they cannot afford to lose [their Average Monthly Paid App Subscription Churn last quarter (2nd quarter of fiscal year 2024) was at 7.2% while total members fell 4% vs a year ago]
GM made that choice in Australia shutting down Holden. I’m glad to see they are still failing at business

I remember when I thought whoever bought Pelotons should have their heads examined and then I used one at my work gym ended up buying one. Guess I should get my head examined....
Hahaha! Totally where I started! If it works for you and motivates you, it REALLY works. And the equipment is actually really good.
