I continue to wonder why people take nude pictures of themselves (oh the vanity) and then store them where it can easily be gotten to. My recommendation is first DON'T take nude selfies. Second, if you didn't listen to number 1 at least store them in an offline media and lock it up at home somewhere.

Clearly this guy did wrong and needs to be punished, but others will follow and if they somehow get to my stuff, they will find lots of junk but no nudies. Of me or anyone else.

That's not the point. They were stolen. You are excusing the thief.

It's like saying-don't own an iPhone, it's your fault if it gets stolen.

It's not a great argument. However, having said that I have no nude photos of me either-no one wants to see that!

I bet you're great fun at parties :p

It's a tired trope but this statement does border on the "she was asking for it by dressing that way." How people choose to express themselves with those closest to them via a medium that *should* be private is entirely up to them. Some people are in long distance relationships and use technology to increase intimacy when physical presence isn't possible, there nothing wrong with that or for that matter someone just wanting to titillate a bit with a person they trust. I could be wrong but perhaps this is just philosophical for you, I seem to recall you being in favor of a method of decryption in particular cases; maybe you feel that privacy isn't an inherent right and we all need to behave accordingly.

Some types of hacking can end up in very positive outcomes for end-users, not this kind. Enjoy your gruel Ryan!

W..T...F....?

Jennifer Lawrence needed to 'promote' herself? She chose 4chan as a place do do it? It's 'suspicious' she didn't have any porn pictures in her account? Suspicious? Amateur's photos are all porn? You have a really messed up view of what women should be doing with their time. 'She was asking for it,' is not a great way to justify your invasion of her privacy.
Really messed up view of women? nope.. just her, two of those photos looks definitely fake, and yes it does looks suspicious to make that much buzz about someone breast selfies, iCloud Hacked Jennifer Lawrence was all over the media including the freaking internet were other people revealed a lot more than some breasts selfies
media said she was affected by this and I'm saying about what? there's was nothing horrifying in those photos
it's amazing how you defend a rich evil queen:mad: you must rich person tooo_O but hey don't get mad i don't want you spill your whine, yes people who works their a$$-off for $20 per day are also affected by this!
[doublepost=1458177503][/doublepost]
What a misguided view of the situation.
If put it that way now I'm starting to feel sorry for her, all those fans of her..who supported her with their money saw her breasts

Sarc!
Outside the iCloud Hack theory, I think i know more about what kinda type of person she is, or maybe you do too? and you decide to ignore it?
Also I don't have a problem with other celebrities just with her because she's a bad person

You need get outside a little from your bubble life, and find out the majority of people are not affected by this, they have their own problems to worry about

It's like saying-don't own an iPhone, it's your fault if it gets stolen.

And, yet, we have all witnessed during last weeks the official US government's stance saying:

"Don't own an iPhone, it's your fault if it is too secure".

5 years for leaking nude photographs? This kind of stuff could cause life+career destruction to many people especially those who are involved in politics+religeon

In all due respects I don't see why Apple should be obliged to protect idiots from themselves - sooner or later these crackers will find a new way to phish information from the end user then you're back to square one again. At some point end users need to step up and stop expecting others to protect them from themselves just as people wear safety belts and have air bags installed but it doesn't make them immune to having to stick to the speed limit etc.
There were plenty of smart, well-informed Linux users whose passwords got stolen due to the Bash bug.

The fact is that many users don't know enough about security to know what attackers can/can't fake, so the service providers have to act accordingly. There are websites like "login.security.icloud.password.apple.com.appel.biz" or, if your browser supports it, "аpple.com" (with the Cyrillic "a"). Seems reasonable for people to fall for those. Or people don't know what HTTPS is and why it needs to be verified. Or they weren't born with computers and don't understand that anyone can send an email that looks like it's from Apple.

Also, I'll bet if Apple didn't even require a password, at least 10% of users wouldn't set one. They don't know better. Is that what you want?

you are just as bad as the person who hacked these accounts. why would you go look at somebody's private photos who you know did not want them to be seen by the public?
Lol, I am pretty sure you have seen nudes from people that havent realized they are on the net. You are no better than me. So stop with this holier than thou bs.

i didnt go look at their icloud, they are posted all over the net. Your logoc is terribly flawed, try again.

And it is clear that you didn't read what I wrote originally because I clearly stated that the issue was the fact that the passwords were not acquired through a lapse in security at Apple or because of a bug in software (as you noted in the example about BASH) but a very simple phishing which involves people not taking precautions - engaging their brain before doing anything. This my original post:

So in other words it had nothing to do with iCloud security as the perennial Apple bashers love to go on about but stupid people doing stupid things. Maybe in future before people jump into bashing Apple that such individuals realise that the weakest link is the end user himself/herself rather than it necessarily being the result of lax security on the part of the service provider.

Actually yes i did. This might surprise you but Unless you're not human being, you have also browsed "sites" that might contain nudity. Some of these sites are made up of millions of people around the world where they upload anything. (No underage stuff and its strictly prohibited). From your mature couple to your college girl etc... Your comparison of accusing me to the ones that hacked that is just plain silly. Its like me coming across a picture of someone dead that was killed and claiming that i am not better than the killers.

We see this everyday in the media.

I know its easy to label someone on the internet without knowing them. I will not drop that low. Have a gold day/night

I got to it in the second paragraph, right below that. And anyway, what I said about Bash is another good reason to have two-factor auth.

Not everyone visits websites with nudes on them.

Justice is sometimes exceedingly slow.

Another one of Jennifer Lawrence’s hackers is going to prison

https://www.theverge.com/2018/8/30/17800896/jennifer-lawrence-hackers-prison-celebgate

George Garofano — one of the four hackers who stole and leaked celebrity nudes in the 2014 event that came to be known as Celebgate (and on 4chan as “The Fappening”) — has been sentenced to eight months of prison time. Variety reports, he’ll also face three years of supervised release and 60 hours of community service after he gets out. In total, Garofano hacked more than 250 people, including Kate Upton, Jennifer Lawrence, and Kirsten Dunst.

Three other hackers had already been sentenced for their roles in hacking the material that became Celebgate: Ryan Collins, 36, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to felony hacking and violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act; Edward Majerczyk, 28, pled guilty to the same and was sentenced to nine months in prison. Emilio Herrera, 32, also pled guilty and is still awaiting his sentencing. While the US Attorney’s Office says there’s no evidence that Collins, Majerczyk, or Herrera shared or posted the stolen images online, Variety reports that prosecutors in the case allege that Garofano traded usernames, passwords, and the images themselves with other people.

Each of the hackers gained access to other people’s accounts through phishing — sending their targets fake password-reset links, and then using that information to log into their accounts. On August 31st, 2014, that material ended up on 4chan and Reddit, and horny men online flocked to both sites to download the nudes before they disappeared. It took Reddit a full week before they shut down the Fappening subreddit for copyright issues.
