Javascript Carousel existed before 2008

Congrats Apple Lawyers. I did your job for you.

+1

And you cost less! Just don't try living on just that.

Whoever owns the patent earns the gold, even if they didn't actually make it, which is funnier than an episode of "Friends".

Why else do companies buy one another out after they get done saying how good competition is supposed to be? For the patents and mo money.

MSM articles have even brazenly said as much. Anyone can throw up a hundred dozen links so just do a web search for "***** bought for patents" and replace "*****" with company name (Microsoft, Apple, Motorola, Google, Tivo, Rovi, you name it.)

I will sketch a car that hovers with no wheels right now. I will then sue the car company 25 years later when it comes out due to patent infringement.

Stupid BS crap that should not get attention. Why make this front page news?

This is like the guy who drew a picture of a smartphone on napkin and never filed the patent because he didn't want to pay.

Wow... he got a patent on that?
Kill me now.

The U.S. Patent system is a joke according to my last law professor. You can patent nearly anything these days, apparently. Unfortunately, in terms of governmental systems in the U.S., the problem with the patent system hardly seems problematic at all when compared to others.... cough....cough....

Congress needs to seriously address the patent troll issue. Sure Apple has the pockets to fight BS like this, but what about the companies that would go bankrupt over these types of suits?

Thank God, hopefully this will finally put an end to all online carousels. Well…I can dream, can't I? As a UI/UX designer I loathe them. They're poor design (misclicks and taps, resource intensive) and people rarely click on what they intended. Every time I do a redesign of an old site I remove them. I always get lots of blowback from clients saying "Well I like it because it adds dynamic movement to the site!" Then I ask them "Well have you ever enjoyed using a carousel on another site?" and they almost always agree that I'm right. I've read MANY articles with various testing metrics showing how awful they are. They're also pretty crap for accessibility.

I think there won't be enough money to pay Penn. man after Florida man get his cash.

Even Mac OS X Panther in 2003 had a carousel animation when switching users, and MacOS still uses it to this day...

I miss that cube animation when switching users - is there a way to re-enable it?

As a corporate lawyer, my question is why MacRumors deems it necessary to publish stories like this. There is no news value whatsoever to a random plaintiff alleging patent infringement.

Actually, American courts are quite good at dispensing with meritless lawsuits. Of course, that doesn't stop sites like this one from reporting such suits as if they are newsworthy.
The problem is that silly, obvious (and for cryin' out loud, with obvious prior art existing) patents should never be issued and too many little guys are trolled into licensing this nonsense because they don't have the resources to fight it. It's all well and good to be Apple and have essentially unlimited resources to fight a lawsuit if you so choose. A small business owner can't.

More evidence to reform the patent office. Software, ideas, business methods. All retarded.

Ideas are what patents are all about. The only real question here is the patent valid. On the face it looks like an invalid patent and if so Apple will win fairly easily. This article has only been up for a few minutes and we already have multiple examples of preexisting technology, so good business for the lawyers and not much else.

Another BS patent case. Apple's "carousel" isn't even 3D.

It is 3D you just don't see the Part where the Data is being scrolled out into the 3rd Dimension because you are looking at it on a 2 Dimensional screen.

These patents should never be granted.
These are patents on an idea and not an implementation.
Unless you have code and graphics to demonstrate, then these patents are crap.

Watch out patent trolls, I have patented the human finger, but only the middle one.

The US Patent Office has been a joke for a long time now...

True it has.
But think about it; for this guy. This guy thinks he has several patentable ideas and follows the prescribed process and patents them. They are approved. Then he sees Apple is using his patents. Likely he contacted Apple about licensing them. End result: he is suing.
Sounds legit. Let it go through the legal system and see what happens. This does not look like a typical troll filing.
