No go - can I get more info?

Sure mate, no problem. And I know how you feel, I was also struggling for more than a week before I finally got it right. I am not sure of the updates drivers created some conflict with the Intel audio drivers, but that's really all I can think. I basically did the same thing twice, one using my old Leopard disc for installing Boot Camp and another time using the most recent disc I had, and only after using the most recent did it work... installing xp takes little time really, you can be done in like 20-25 minutes.

Let us know how it goes, and good luck!

The rollback didn't work.

Before I go crazy with a re-install, can you do me a favor and go into the Device manager and go into the properties for the audio card (on mine it says Realtech High Definition Audio) tell me what's listed on the drivers page.

Because I'm not sure it's not going through. It may actually have updated it.

Thanks.

Aharon

Thanks.

Thanks!

Did it originally say Realtech there?

I'm not sure how you pulled that off, honestly. It shouldn't allow you to install the wrong drivers for the hardware. I wonder if I can manually convince it that it's an intel audio controller.

Let's find out...

are you reinstalling?
if you are, please post the results afre you apply the Intel driver

Not for the next 2-3 weeks at least. I am traveling for NAB and the holidays, and need my laptop working with all the software. Don't have time to do a complete Windows and software reinstall.

I spoke with Apple, and they said they are aware of the issue, and have been talking to Microsoft. They claim the problem is being experienced on some PC's with the same audio hardware, so MS is working on a fix.

I dont know if this is a related problem but after installing the new firmware update for my mac i've found that audio crackles on streaming sites like youtube, but it's fine when the airport is turned off.

I'm running tiger on a mbp 2.4 gig ... not sure if its penryn... i bought it about july 07.

anyone know how to fix this?

btw... arabinowitz .... Aaron Rabinowitz? if so, big ups for all the CC tutorials... they were a MASSIVE help when starting out with AE a few years back. Thank you! ;)

I've heard reports that an updated driver for your Airport card (this is usually Broadcom or Atheros) will resolve the sound crackle issue when the wireless chipset is turned on.

(F.Y.I: You have a Santa Rosa MacBook Pro more than likely. The easiest way to find out is fire up System Profiler and check the Model Identifier. If yours says "MacBookPro3,1" you have a SR MBP.)

thanks icefusion, yeah i have a santa rosa chipset.

the broadcom and atheros drivers are for windows though, right? i mean to say that im having a similar problem, but in osx, just since the firmware update today. it's worse if the audio is streaming through firefox than safari, but both crackle. streaming thru itunes doesnt cause a problem.

I'll keep looking as see if i can figure out the problem, but please anyone give me a shout if you know whats up. cheers.

Ah, my apologies, I thought you were running it under Windows. In that case, try resetting your SMC and your PRAM by doing the following:

1. Turn off your computer.
2. Unplug the MagSafe adapter and remove the battery from the bottom.
3. Hold down the power button for 5 seconds.
4. Put the battery back in.
5. Plug in the MagSafe adapter.
6. Turn the computer on and hold down Command (Apple) - Option - P - R immediately until your computer chimes twice and then let go of the keys.

See if that clears it up for you. :)

Thanks again icefusion, but no, still crackles as ever, and fine again as soon as the airport is switched off.

Anyone ever find a solution for this?

Still no problems in OS X, and still tons of problems in Vista. I've been trying each new Realtek driver as they post them (usually at a rate of one or two a month), and sometimes they're marginally better and sometimes they're much worse, but they never eliminate the pops/crackles.

I have stumbled upon this thread after having observed the crackling audio intermittently as well. I can replicate the crackles / pops rather consistently listening to music while scanning for other wifi access points. I have tried WLAN drivers from Dell & HP's site as well as the latest R202 Realtek audio drivers, and still hear the crackling whenever I test it.

All this time I was connected to a D-Link router running 802.11n. I also have a Linksys WRT54G on my network and decided to connect to that while trying to scan for access points and listening to music... no crackles / pops!

FWIW, I am running Vista64 and have reverted to using the regular Broadcom 4.170.25.12 drivers with the aforementioned R202 Realtek drivers.

On a side note, my gf also has a MBP (she the 2.4GHz Penryn (w/ Atheros chipset), I the 2.5GHz (w/ Broadcom)). When we are both using the 802.11n on the D-Link, she would always drop within minutes in either OS X or XP, yet I would not have problems. On the Linksys with both of us on 802.11g, there would be no problems at all. It is of my opinion that the MBP wifi chipsets as they stand right now are not suitable for 802.11n with all the spotty issues that are most likely related to it.

Anyone have updated Wireless drivers for a 4.1 (Early 08) penryn MacBook Pro, running XP and getting stuttering every now and again in video and audio.

Any solutions?
