Shoarthing, can you give me some advice on how you have (if you do) that fan control set up. Im not sure on the lower and upper threshold settings and base speed.
. . sure:

(Legend: Green = current 'CPUA' temperature; Red = slope: max fanspeed per temp; Purple = lower threshold)

Thank you. I guess what I meant was what settings would you recommend.....
. . see above image: works fine for me. CPUs vary, as does the application of their thermal compound goop, so any specific recommendation is tricky.

As a very rough guide for any comparison you may wish to make; this 2.5GHz MBP has not yet reached 70C nor exceeded 4000 rpm, even when encoding a long queue using Handbrake/x264 for 36 hours or so in 25~27C ambient.

my girlfriend ordered a new penryn the day they came out, hers sits on about 40°C, when using skype (50-70% CPU on both cores) it will go up to about 60-65°C, which is about my CD on idle lol)..

very nice machines!!!

Under normal, all kinds of usage mine sits between 44 and 52.

Fan speeds in the high 2000's to mid 3000's.

Do you think this program risks wearing out the fans early????

I dont think so, but some people seem to think so.

well technically yea, u kno, its gonna put more ware and tear on everything. because the fans are going faster there is more dust moving around = more corrosion blaablaablaa. but whatever, its more likely gonna be HD/RAM failure than that..

. . erm: how do you see "RAM failure" in any way as likely as the failure of a mechanical device such as a fan or HDD?

i see it as quite a common occurrence. i havent experienced any fan problems at all out of at least 10 computers i have owned, its always been either HD, batteries or something else.

. . . what do you see as a cause of any "RAM failure" that you have observed?
