Cheers!

My first Post

Just got my 15" 2.4GHz Penryn Macbook Pro BTO with 7200rpm drive and glorious glossy display. Mine's rockin a 9c83 display and it is perfect!

I have a stock 2.5G Penryn with a 9C83 display. The colors were very washed out until I used an ICC file I got form this site. Now the display is beautiful!

I have 9C83 2.4G Penryn using Adobe RGB 1998 which is an improvement of the stock color. Anyone have a good icc file that's better or suggestions?

I got the middle model (15", 2.5ghz) and I've got the 9C81 screen, which I'm very pleased with.

9c82 w/slight yellowing issue bottom 1/3 of screen.

Base model w/7200RPM 200GB drive. Matte display.

Ordered another identical model in the hopes that it would not have the yellowing issue. Waiting for arrival.

Was supposed to receive my replacement today but looks like it was delayed. Hopefully I'll have it on Monday and will be able to update.

Curious to hear of others currently experiencing yellowing issues (or not) and which screens they have. I wonder if Apple would be interested in any of these findings at all.

with all the members here having " jaundice" on their screen.. and having x amount of exchanges even around june 2007, i'm sure, definitely sure that APPLE knows about the problem.

the better question is:
why are they ignoring the issue?

I assume we represent only a small portion of returns and probably don't affect their bottom line. I also assume many people just live with the issue as it really isn't that big of a deal if you aren't into video editing. Even the one that I'm returning was border line problematic. It bugs me because I know how to see it but if I didn't, I'd probably be fine with it.

Does anyone know if this issue is isolated to Macbook Pros or are other manufacturer's LED based laptops also affected?

I think it's simply because it's cheaper to deal with these LCDs on an individual customer basis (knowing that most customers don't notice the defects), than it is to ensure that the majority of panels are perfect before installation into the MBPs. Given how long these issues linger (the last generation PB had LCD issues that were never addressed either), there is no other explanation. Apple is skimping on quality at their customers' expense.

To correct the problem would be to admit that there IS a problem.

Doing such a thing is a very hard thing for big corporations to do.

Take Canon for example. They make phenomenal cameras and recently released a pro body that was all the rage. Crazy fast shutter speed, well-built, etc. etc. However, had a TERRIBLE problem with the focusing and a TON of people were complaining about it. However, no word from Canon. Just a "send it in and it will be fixed" response.

However, after months and months of this, Canon finally came out and admitted there was a problem and allowed those with afflicted cameras to send them in to have a full repair of the known problem. This took Canon a long time.

Just like it's going to take Apple a LONG time. Especially since it's not as widespread.

Most companies you write a letter to their CEO and they come back to say sorry we will investigate, fix, replace, refund, etc.

You email Steve Jobs, he writes back to tell you to chill.
