I think that upgrade was largely driven by a significant event, i.e. the move from 30-pin interface to the lightening port.

ehhh, but they didn't really change the form factor did they? wasn't part of the whole purpose of the move from 30-pin to lightning to save space so they could cram more <whatever> in there and make it thinner? They didn't do that.... That leads me to to believe it was done as a method purely for sales.

Plus, they'll have the TouchID to introduce. My guess is that the approach was twofold: 1. there wasn't enough lead time when developing the iPad air to successfully implement the touchID AND/OR 2. They're purposely leaving it out so they'll have another bullet point on the next iPad spec sheet. Apple is notorious for this... It's my belief that they could have put a retina display on the first mini. (maybe not...) but didn't so they'd have something to put on the next one.... I've said it 100x on here... I'm even more accepting of this because I'd rather have it executed properly than have a feature that simply doesn't work.

Do all of you use a passcode to access your iPads?

Is the Touch ID demanded for privacy reasons or because you're concerned someone will steal your device?

Just curious as I've never used a passcode on either my iPad or my iPod and I'm unsure why people would expect it, given it's available on only one iPhone model.

I'd like it for convenience lol.

It was going to be a day1 purchase for me if it had TouchID. Now I'll wait and see how I feel.

I like the spec bump and retina, but TouchID works flawless for me and I can't see myself going back to passwords.

I was hoping maybe that with the 64bit stuff too maybe we'd even get multiple user login. That'd be great for my kids. Idk maybe I'll just put the money towards a new gun instead or a PS4 or making my Mac mini all SSD now!

I have a mini and I was looking forward to going back to the full-sized iPad after the size of my iPad 3 ALWAYS bothered me. The only reason I used my iPad mini a lot more was the size, but I can tell I am missing the bigger screen.

However, after getting used to touch ID, I'm not sure if I should wait 'till March. I have a slight feeling that Apple is going to screw me over again (like they did when I got my iPad 3) by putting a touch ID on a March release.

When they introduce the 12" convertible iPad

And to move the iPad release time to the holiday season, so people looking to gift the iPad can buy a brand new device instead of one that is nine months old.

I doubt Apple will ever go back to a March release for the iPad. What are you going to do if Apple doesn't release a new iPad in March, buy an iPad Air then? No, if you don't buy one now, you might as well skip a generation.
