Most regular people don’t preorder phones or watch these events once these are seen in store or in the wild I’m sure sales will pickup!

I also am waiting to see in person before I decide on purchasing!

Sales will certainly pick up, but it's very unlikely to be a big hit.

Regular people will go for reliable choices - they're uncertain about camera use and won't downgrade to a single lens. They know their current iPhone 11 or 12 battery sucks and the demo table shows: 27 hours, 30 hours, 33 hours.

Which one will they pick?

I'm sure the product engineers who labored for over a year to design the component packaging for the new iPhone Air would have some choice words for you about "It's not difficult".
If this Air is part of the journey to a foldable iPhone next year, it’s still not impressive and is still too thick. 5.6mm x 2 = 11.2mm, which is THICK for today’s foldables and it isn’t even out yet. The Zfold7 is 8.9mm…

We’ll see. You could be right. If you have time maybe read old MR article comments and forums posts.

It’s hilarious people slagging off AirPods when they launched and other products that ended up being slam dunks.

This could be another iPhone mini moment but I’m inclined to say it won’t be. Like I said - sleeper hit is my prediction.

Another prediction of mine is that people are going to get very bored very fast of the Orange iPhone.

It's more likely the other way around. Decent number of pre-orders by enthusiasts and "geeks" willing to try the newest thing.

Regular consumers will go for the reliable options, meaning base model or tried and true Pro/Max. The sticking point with Air is the camera and battery life. Apple has spent years teaching customers more is
better.

I am still on the fence on this one. I have the 16 pro and just looking forward to getting a lighter iPhone. Only thing that slightly puts me off is it’s going to be a little taller than the iPhone I have right now. However I think that is something I will just accept and get used to.

I am so tempted to pre order tomorow. However I wish to see the iPhones in the store first before I make a decision if I wish to buy.

I have 1 year left on my contract with my current iPhone but it all looks well to be next Friday then I will just trade in my iPhone in the Apple Store and pay the difference for the new iPhone air.

I just love the colour blue of the new air and that will be my go to iPhone. I have always got the pro iPhones but like most people I never really used the pro features. I am just looking forward to seeing the iPhones in person next Friday and then make my decision. However so far 95% confident will get it.

Also regarding speaker does not bother me. I have my AirPods Pro 2 which are always in my ears 🙂
Please let us know what you thought after seeing it in person :)

My first thought was man, that thing is going to be wonderful to run or cycle with!
A typical comment on social media and in many YouTube reviews goes: “Why would anyone pay $999 for an iPhone Air when it has worse specs than even the regular iPhone?”

Could you please finally understand that not every user cares about processor power or professional-grade cameras? Some people specifically want a light, thin, and elegant iPhone. Many iPhone users don’t play demanding games on their phone and only take simple point-and-shoot photos.

To be honest, it really annoys me how even on YouTube there seems to be some kind of baseline for what people are supposed to want from an iPhone. Just because someone like MKBHD prefers a giant phone with huge battery life and a Hollywood-level camera doesn’t mean everyone else should want the same thing.

I think iPhone Air is gonna sell like crazy!
My first thought was “man, that thing is going to be wonderful to run or cycle with!” It’s got a little battery that I’ll leave behind 90% of the time, but will have mostly to make me feel better if I have a long day away from a charger.

Most of the “influencers” seem to be pretentiously overstating their own use cases, as if they use their phones all day to solve critical computational quantum physics equations or are both photographing and directing profound documentaries about the human genome on on their little phones. In reality, they’re making Youtube videos that could be done on a $200 used Sony in a fake studio in the spare bedroom of their cheesy apartments.

Some of them make helpful videos, but their opinions are often based on fringe specs, that matter little to the way most of us use our devices. They can do them, and we’ll do us. Don’t let them bother you.

If people want to buy the Air bc they like it, by all means go ahead. To each his own, no worries there. But what I cannot stand is everyone say the Air is “innovative” or something “groundbreaking”. They literally just stripped stuff out! It’s not hard to do at all. Take out two bulky cameras, put in a much thinner battery, take out mmWave from the connectivity chip, remove speakers, and suddenly we are being innovative? There is absolutely nothing revolutionary about the Air. Please buy it if you like it, but miss me with the innovation BS. This is nothing like the MacBook Air from 15 years ago when all laptops around were BRICKS.
The air is the most interesting thing Apple have done in years. It’s a shame if people don’t embrace it because I for one am sick of the same bulky brick like slab that is the pro max year after year after year

Same, sick of the same old form factor for decades.

It's about time a new form factor came out!

Watching my Air order for launch day pick up....

Some people are very narrow minded, thank God they're not leading Apple. Very good post!

People get it. It's just most people are not overly concerned about the weight or thickness. The regular iPhone is not bothersome to that degree.

Some people compare it to MacBook Air in 2008. Regular notebooks of that era were 4-5 lbs and 1-inch thick. You carried it using a backpack. That's not that case with iPhone.
Neither the iPhone or the MacBook Air are living beings.

And I disagree, most people don't get it. That's why there's backwards post "it has a terrible battery". And I hear lots of people complaining about weight, not much aboit thickness but weight oh yes.

The point is the Air is a compromised product. It’s worse than base 17 in every single way except thickness and only slightly lighter. If people like it and want to buy it that’s cool, go ahead. But it’s not innovative. It’s a watered down product to make it “thin”

It has terrible battery life when compared the latest models.

Understand that most people do not care about last year's iPhone. This is premium technology. They are thinking about buying a new iPhone today. And the fact is, Air has the shortest battery life of all models launched this week.

27 hours, 30 hours, 33 hours, 39 hours

It's only in specific, tech discussion forums like this are people trying to compare against last year's model and justifying the battery life.

It's not compromised at all- it's a new form factor that appeals to those who are not heavy users, influencers, video stuff, pro users, or living on it 24/7.

Air is perfect for me as I only use the iPhone 1-2 hours max per day.

All my serious work, home computing and relax time is on Mac Studio or Macbook.

This reply is on my Macbook - I never use iPhone for social media or message forums...

The average smartphone screen time is around 5 hours per day in the U.S.

You don't need to be an influencer or pro user to understand battery life is important.

Wow, 5 hrs is a lot - my kids (adult) might get to that level.
I am not a young millennial or whatever current generation - I'm a boomer.

Battery life is important to me a casual, non pro, light user like me.

But I do expect "all day battery life" on my iPhones, Apple Watch, iPad and Macbook.

Will see how the Air battery lasts for my use compared to the 16 Pro I am trading in.

As you might imagine, there's a huge range of users.

Despite Apple calling iPhone 17 "Pro," many of those users are just regular people and actually use up much of the battery charge each day.

Real "pros" like white collar workers using the phone for hotspot or content creators are carrying battery banks.

In that context, that's why when people share opinions that Air has compromised battery life, they're not being silly about it. From many people's perspective, the Air is for light users.

The Air will sell well.

It has that Apple curb appeal and is the newest member of the iPhone family. Those two immediately piques the interest, even in the Average Joe walking through the mall. I’m positive that many people will have a strong reaction the moment they touch it for the first time.

Also, not sure many of us here are worried about this, but the Air looks to have plenty of CPU power— more than enough for what most people use their phones for. I believe Apple solved day-to-day performance management long ago. Folks whose most used apps are Safari, Messages, FaceTime, etc. won’t even make this handset sweat, I’m betting.

The most important dynamics to watch next week are battery/heat management and single speaker/camera performance. In the meantime, new Geekbench scores for the Air are somehow already getting uploaded. Insanely fast performance, just shy of M4 in single threaded.
