But bezel and Home button is what set the iPhone out from other smartphones, and it hasn't really changed much. That's how Apple likes to roll. Look at an iMac from the front and see how much it has changed over the years, when you think about it, it really hasn't changed much. Yeah the technology got better to make better screens and thinner units, but when you sat in front of one, you knew you were sitting in front of an iMac.

And now, the same ideal is applied to the iPhone and iPads. And again, that is what Apple wants, they want their products to stand out from others.

Surely the build quality, operating system and number/quality of apps is what should set it apart from other smartphones. Not an antiquated mechanical home button and old fashioned big bezels?

I'm not sure apple design team agrees with your assessment. However maybe you are closer to the source than I think.

….if your workflow is interrupted by a bezel, you might be in the wrong line of work.

By that i also mean the size in the pocket and sliding it out. Note 3 is not funny when you are on a bicycle. It is disturbing for the way you handle the phone. It gets too tall with bezel + 16:9 aspect radio. That home button should just go. I use touch id a lot and it is very good. But it is not better than less bezel. No way. A code is also faster than touch id.

I can take my upside down iPhone out of my pocket and have it unlocked as i pull it toward my face. You cannot do that with a code and hence a code is not faster.IMO I should add.

Touch ID, on the majority of occasions when it works, is faster than entering a password. I think we can all agree on that. However, chunky & dated looking bezels and an old-style mechanical home button are surplus to requirements in 2014. They are old fashioned aesthetically, and also old-tech where the home button is concerned. Who cares how thin a phone is when the overall size is so big and the battery life so poor? Touch ID can be incorporated into the screen, or a flat non-button below the screen. It doesn't need to go, but the mechanical home button and oversized bezels do.

No, that's not the only unlocking step as you still have to swipe to unlock. It serves an important purpose as the home button can be accidentally pressed even while in pocket. You'd be surprised how often pocket dialing happens when people don't sleep their devices before pocketing them.

For many of us, TouchID is as fast or faster than swipe to unlock.

Nope I don't have to swipe to unlock since I disabled the lock screen on my current phone.

----------

Only current method on a 5S (only iPhone with touchID) is the "missed call method" and it does not allow full access to the phone only to the last opened app. So you still couldn't get passed that and restore the phone. Even if you could you'd still run into the activation lock requiring an AppleID that was on the phone.

Per forum rule could you kindly provide proof to your claim?

LMAO no

I'm not saying you're right or wrong as it depends on how apple views this. Maybe there's a surprise waiting for you in the iPhone 6... or not.

Apple fans really do live in a bubble don't they.

I'm not an apple fan, I just happen to be using this as my current phone. So no, I'm involved with security and I don't live in a bubble, but have taken reasonable steps to protect my phone. You may be able to erase my phone if you get it, even so-called activate it, but you're not getting into my phone.

OK ;) if that makes you feel more comfortable

I have read all your posts, you are either very confused about how the phone operates, or you are just being dense to troll. Its kinda nutty how lost you are so I am hoping (for your sake) that you are much smarter than this.

Look it's not my fault if you are lost. I'm not confused how phones operate at all.

My current phone is a Galaxy S4. Are we good so far? I have disabled the lock screen. Now when I press the home button, it just takes me right to the home screen (you know the one with the buttons for things like phone, messaging, camera, chrome etc). Ok? Clear now?

Links or what are posting is utter nonsense, as I think someone may have chimed in; been on the front page of MacRumors etc. This "secret" way of hacking into an iphone does not exist other than what has already been reported on this site.

And has already been said forum rules require such "assertions" to be documented, or else you are trolling.

Wow what is this the government? Sorry I didn't read the rules and I'm not going to prove any of my assertions.

Well this is MacRumors with their own (https://macrumors.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201327723-MacRumors-Rules-for-Appropriate-Debate) set of guidelines for appropriate debate.

Up to you whether you want to be a good citizen and abide by the forum rules or not. If not, you may be politely asked to be a good citizen.

Here: https://macrumors.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201265337-Forum-Rules is some more reading.

I'm not going to read those. If your life revolves around internet forums there's something wrong. And who the hell said I wanted rules for debate? I don't want to debate. I'm not a nerd.

Are you literally that mad that there's a way people can hack into your phone on the off chance you lose it or it gets stolen?

Your post on the subject will likely be deleted then. I'd consider it a favor as many will find them to be foolish.

iPhone hacks are front page for most gadget sites and macrumors site itself, to the point it would be more profitable for someone that discovers them to sell then for click bate ad revenue then to actual use it to steal then resell iPhones. Much safer too.

To the extent your posts should be deleted will do the forum a favor, methinks.

And no I'm not worried at all.

It sure looks like you're just trying to cause trouble. So far all I've seen are unsubstantiated claims of some hack.

jesus you people latch on to one random comment and act like I just came here to say "breaking news! there's a new hack!". for the love of god get over it.

seriously here's the point, if you lose your iphone and you think someone can't hack into it, you're nuts! that's it.
