I'm not suggesting that this problem doesn't exist, I am pretty sure it is a real issue, I just don't think that it's real world effects are that big of a deal. I drop way less calls than before, in fact I don't think I've dropped one yet on the new phone. Would I prefer that this issue didn't exist, sure, but I am not actually seeing any real world problem with it.

In DC/No. Va. No problems at all. Live in Delray Beach, Fl and I got my phone on launch date. Bars fluctuate more here in No Va but only 1 lost call.
Love my new phone it is fabulous - fast, better call quality and great camera and video. I had 3GS before this and my IP4 is so much better.

Add me to this list. I love my new iPhone 4. I've had zero dropped calls so far and I guess this would attest to powerful signal I have here in the sticks of the mid-west. I'm not refuting that there is a problem, but I am suggesting that maybe AT$T's network sucks that much more!

just got my iPhone 4 today, and loving it! i do have the signal drop issue, but like one poster from earlier posts, it only happens if i place my finger over the left lower gap/line. funny thing is, i live in queen creek, arizona, where i can't even use my old iPhone 3G for calls. i just tested a call, with 1 bar signal, to my mom's house and she actually said i sounded really loud lol

I've had mine since the day before launch day and I have yet to experience any problems. I had ONE dropped call in about 3 weeks, which isn't really unusual for any phone/carrier. So yeah, no issues here!

Got 2 iPhones on launch day in the US: 1 32GB iPhone 4, 1 16GB iPhone 4.

Both iPhones, either with or without cases, have had zero issues with either reception or proximity sensors.

Beginning to wonder: are we the minority or the majority? Am leaning toward majority.

Reception bars on my phone would drop 2 - 3 bars but calls have always been crystal clear. Never a dropped call. The only problems I've had with my phone are cosmetic..

It's a little refreshing to make a post about the lack of issues my phone has without 10 people jumping on it with a "ZOMGZ PICS OR IT DIDNT HAPN" response.

Not going to say "pics or it didn't happen" but it would be helpful if those without problems could give more info such as the first part of your serial, what city you live in (I.e., how good your ATT coverage is), etc.

I believe you guys, we just need data. :)

My wife has an iPhone 4 orderd through work. She was asking me about the reception issues as she said she heard about them today. I tried to recreate the "problem" via the death grip, but could not. Held tightly for 2-3 minutes and had zero reception loss. I've never had any problems, but then again, I know how to properly hold a cell phone :) This whole deal is overreaction to the extreme.

No, it is not

I went to SF the other day to pick up my Dad who just flew in. Big/international cities like SF, LA, NYC, etc. supposedly have horrible reception due to number of people who use cellular data, high-rise buildings, compact environment, etc. Whenever I stopped due to a red light or slow traffic, I gripped my naked iPhone 4 tightly around the bottom left corner for as long as I could. I only got it to drop 1 bar in 2 areas. My friend's iPhone 3GS had 1-3 bars in those same areas.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like you're in an area where there was sub par coverage. Being in the middle of the street in the open air is probably pretty good, even for San Francisco's standards.

Maybe you just haven't been in an area that really shows off this effect, but after using multiple iPhone 4s in town here, all exhibiting the same behaviors at different locations (full bars, but not "optimal" coverage the bars drop, or, in optimal coverage area the bars do not drop and gripping shows no effect on file transfer) it seems pretty clear that this issue is not isolated to a few phones. I imagine every phone has the same "issue."

Now can it be resolved with software? No idea.

For me, I purchased the phone on June 24th. Since that date, the phone has been with me in:

June 26th - San Francisco, CA
June 27th - San Jose, CA
June 28th - Houston, TX
Mix of time between London, New York and Dallas
July 09th - San Diego, CA
July 10th - Los Angeles
July 16th - I'll tell you about Milwaukee
July 17th - I'll tell you about Napa Valley
etc etc

Mine works perfect!no dropped calls tried to do the death grip numerous times but it doesn't bother the cell strength at all! Love this thing

I am primarily in the Philly area, but I have also been through large chunks of Delaware and New Jersey without any noticeable issues.

In the next month I will be in Nashville, Charleston West Virginia, and Long Island New York so I will be sure to keep an eye on the phone.

I've had mine since launch. It's my first iPhone. I have to admit the shallow part of me is slightly sad I finally got in on the craze with the phone that's considered faulty... but then I realize, I freaking love my phone!!! There have been no issues, and I think the body is beautiful. :)

Have been using the iPhone 4 since 7/9 with absolutely 0 issues. I live in North New Jersey, service has been excellent so far 0 dropped calls (which I am suprised about so far as when I previously had a 3GS a few months ago I dropped about 15% of calls). I am pleasantly suprised with the 4!
