This is what I am going to do,

Thursday night I will be going on my att account online and print the page that tells me i am upgrade eligible. I will then take it to the apple store if they say anything, I will show them the page.

here i'll even post a screenshot of my att upgrade phone status:

ssfi2.tif

I edited out my name and my phone number.

It even shows an icon of the exact current phone I'm using.

I haven't cancelled my iphone data plan either.

Gizmodo knows how to generate hits!
Precisely! I switch sims all the times between phones. The online manager usually shows whatever phone I'm using at the time, but when I call in to change features/etc' it still has the imei of the phone I activated service with; or gave them when I wanted to use another data plan.:p

This is complete and utter BS, and you all are playing right into Gizmodos hands. An '"AT&T" rep?! We all know they haven't got a clue! I bought the iPhone last June, and another this past February for my brother. I sold them both recently, and I'll be damned if AT&T is going to tell me I can't buy the new iPhone after paying full price and service for the last year.

If you bought an iPhone from them for a non-subsidized price, you are an iphone customer.

They don't know what my current device is because it is an unlocked T-mobile slider phone, I'm still paying for my iPhone plan and the person who bought my iPhone is using it unlocked on T-mobile.

My device is still listed as the iPhone, though and I am eligible for discounted pricing.

I had done this. However, I kept my v1 iPhone but deactivated it and went to a BB Pearl 8120. Just last week, I reactivated my iPhone by placing my BB SIM card in it, syncing through iTunes and adding a data iPhone package to it, thus, I am a current iPhone user and am now eligible for the subsidy pricing. I called ATT to verify this rumor and the CSR with key business support indeed did tell me that you have to be ACTIVELY using a v1 iPhone or when they pull up your account, the phone thats default has to be an iPhone. Just keeping the data package will not automatically make you eligible for the subsidy. Apparently, they caught on to this loophole and the CSR told me that come Friday, their systems will be updated accordingly. Hope this helps.

well if thats the case they should be able to pull up how long you've been using the iphone data plan.

I've had my data plan since last year.

If you are paying the for the iphone data plan you should be good. However some claim that you will tell them your phone was stolen. If that was they case you would of notified ATT and let them know so no unauthorized calls were made on your account. I asked a friend of mine who works for ATT about this and he said they very well could check the morning of the launch. But it will be up to the employee/manager if they will follow up every little detail. But apple being apple, they may force them to do this. I gotta give apple credit since they are telling att how to do their job. :D

lol. yes, that gaved me quite a scare.... they also mentioned that if u havent used your iphone for a while, their going to assume u sold theirby u cant get the cheaper price.....WRONG!!! i called att and apple and none of them said such thing... u dont NOT have to bring in your iphone to the store..and just to make sure your eligible for the cheaper iphone, just call att

Ya, you do that. I am sure by acting like an ignorant buyer holding a piece of paper, regardless of what the system says, they will honor the piece of paper you are holding. After all, this is America, if you hold a piece of paper that says one thing, THEY MUST HONOR IT.
