To me it's really the same phone, except faster and has Siri (I don't use camera much).

I do like the speed of data and overall ui speed. Siri is very situational and my main use for it has been to set alarms cuz I hated going through the options.

I got this 4S by trading my 4 for a Bold 9900, then trading that for the 4S cuz I hated the bold. I'd say if you're not spending much money on in then get it, but otherwise just save your money.

I looked at the upgrade like this

When it comes time to upgrade my phone how do the features and more importantly the resale value work out

FEATURES
1) Camera - I take a lot of photos on that thing
2) Battery life of a new phone versus an 18 month old phone that has been heavily used

RESALE
1) Cost of purchasing the phone from apple outright vs re-negiotiate contract
2) Price paid for apple 4 now on open market
3) Price paid for apple 4S v price paid for apple 4 in the future.

For me the maths made sense to sell my old 4 and purchase the 4S now via apple - the cost difference was about £200 + no change to contract pricing or terms.

thanks for the help guys.
my home button has stopped working properly and now only works about 30% of the time and it will cost £119 to fix.

maybe another reason to upgrade

I just made the switch, I've had the 4S for a day and a half now, and I already notice the speed difference and of course the camera.

I love Siri too, I just wish it was more complete for us Canadians.

Heartbroken

I've had every iPhone since the launch in 07. About 30 minutes ago, my iPhone 4 just slipped out of my hands and now I have a crack across the left 2/3rds of my screen.

I'm probably going to bite the bullet and buy a new 4s, which is a bummer because I wanted to wait it out for the next release. But I'm even more sad because I really loved my iPhone 4. I remember how exciting the launch of the 4 was, and it's been through a lot and has a lot of character. I'm attached to this phone.

Should I keep my 4 even with the cracked screen? It's still usable, but my thought is that it's only going to get worse and I have the money now for the 4s. I just really don't want a new contract with the next release likely to be a big jump forward.

I know there was another thread like this with the similar title few weeks back. I wrote a few reason why it was worth it, but I'm lazy to do it now. Here's Cliff's Notes version: I was eligible to upgrade, didn't want AT&T to make more money so I reset my contract; I needed more space because I have the *need* to have locally stored music on my phone; Camera, that seems to be a pretty subjective topic but I think it's a pretty good improvement, saves me from lugging around my DSLR equipment and P&S; Antenna is a vast improvement, I no longer have to use a headset when I'm in a long conversation since I would fear that the phone would drop the connection. Other improvements are great but these are the ones I did it for.
