Tinman, do they still have that terrorism act that restricted photography of buildings and such? THink it was from 2008 or something like that. I recall a picture of photographers holding up their cameras in a form of protest. Was just curious if this was still a major issue with REAL Constables?

Thanks

No idea. Lets just say that I've photographed most of the Thames Embankment walk from Tower Hill, all the way to Westminster Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, Whitehall, Bird Cage Walk, Buckingham Palace, and several bridges across the Thames, and never once had a problem with the Police.

We've had more problems from the public asking if we were "paps" than anything else ;)

My extent of knowledge of England comes from the BBC, Python, Black Adder, and all the Travel Shows I have watched. LOL Whats a "Pap"

"Paparazzi" photographic pests to the rich and famous.

As an alternative, the Gorillapod is a good idea and can be wrapped damn near anywhere. But personally I use a 'Linhof' G clamp bracket with a double ball head. (It's got a reversible awl screw too that is good for tapping into the farmers gate post.) As it is made for 5x4 cameras it'll take most weights.

The thing is that Police officers probably feel more secure in their jobs and probably feel more confident in making a judgement call by observing your demeanour whereas rent-a-cops have almost no education and are afraid of losing their jobs if they are caught "bending" the rules.

I recall being questioned when I landed in Cancun, Mexico with my HD Cam and tripod where they asked me if I was down their for a job. It was a consumer level HD DV camcorder and a small tripod.
