We lost the war on privacy, got over it. We have cellular companies monitoring our location and more and more CCTV setups are being equipped with facial recognition. Airlines are even rolling out facial recognition to replace boarding passes.
Privacy isn't an on or off switch, it's a continuum. The more you give, the less you push back, the more we all lose. Your attitude is the problem.

Just tried Perplexity’s new voice assistant and… yeah, Siri’s in trouble. It actually understands context, gives real answers, and doesn’t just throw a web link at you. Apple seriously needs to step it up or open the door to better third-party options.

I went to the Perplexity link and asked "Why am I ugly"...instead of giving me a genetic reason related to both of my parents, diet, etc....it game me a touchy warm, emotional response.

That is not AI...that is programming. :)
So you asked Perplexity why you’re ugly, and it gave you a thoughtful, reassuring response instead of diving into your genetics and diet? That’s actually a sign of smart design, not bad AI.

A good assistant isn’t just about facts—it’s also about context. When someone asks a question that sounds self-critical or emotionally charged, giving a blunt biological analysis isn’t necessarily helpful (or responsible). It’s not that it can’texplain genetics—it’s that it chose not to hand you a mirror and a microscope in that moment.

Sometimes, programming empathy into AI is exactly what makes it intelligent.

I'm actually shocked. Apple has always been at the forefront. We know there's been a completely boondoggle regarding their AI but now with Perplexity, I just say add an appointment to my calendar or set a reminder and it's done. ChatGPT can't do that right now. Apple what the hell is wrong with you? Oh I know you on a weight loss campaign for your phones.
Other than writing emails and web browsing (which is better done with the chat interface anyways), most of the capability they demonstrated has long been part of Siri, just with better context keeping. As a current subscriber of perplexity, I don’t think I’ll be using it much when Siri is better integrated into the system and has most of the functionalities.

Why can’t Apple just buy one of these AI companies and replace Siri with it.
Probably for the same reason they haven't bought a mature/successful gaming studio and established a serious foray into MacOS native gaming. It ain't cash. Ask Timmah.

Good to see another AI with voice support. All the AIs available today are definitely better than Apple Intelligence and Siri combined.

That didn’t stop them from integrating Siri with ChatGPT
I don't think Apple has actually integrated Siri with any part of ChatGPT, in a manner we'd really call integration. What they've done is to give the user the option to have Siri hand off general questions and chatbot stuff to ChatGPT, with no data sharing between them. Apple's goal is to eventually have not just a large-scale, ChatGPT-like LLM chatbot that users can access using their Apple devices, but also a miniature on-device LLM for processing user requests where it's best to keep user data on-device as much as possible, or when there's no need for a larger LLM to handle requests. So, a small LLM specifically to help Siri with on-device tasks, and a large LLM to function more like ChatGPT. There may be some interaction between these two LLMs though.

If I read Perplexity's own info, it sounds like a majority of the stuff the reviewer likes about it are in the (pricey) paid Pro version, so not really a fair comparison to the 'free' built-in Siri. Which yes still sucks and has been turned off on my phone.

And yet a trillion dollar company still can't get a conversational Siri working yet. Apple is so far behind it's ridiculous, at this rate Apple is going to go the way of Blackberry when it comes to AI.

Apple, either ditch the current useless Siri and integrate ChatGPT throughout the entire OS, or just buy someone for christ sake, you aren't short of money.
Apple won't hop on the bandwagon, unless they License and Patent the everliving S#$& out of it first.

I'm paying the price for wanting to preserve what little digital privacy is left for me to control, so I'll pass on any of the current offerings.

This actually works - and in any language! Almost like this was not an issue at all in 2025.

The place where I need good assistant most is behind the wheel so there needs to be a CarPlay app.

You guys are going to hate what I am going to say but the only way for Apple to actually come to the 21st century would be regulatory action by EU requiring all third party apps (like Perplexity) have guaranteed access to CarPlay and to iMessage etc since these things have become monopoly like platforms. Otherwise Apple will just keep promising a better Siri for 2035...

I run Apple household and give away when we buy new to extended family since 2005 and so bought countless Macs iPads iPhones AppleWatches AppleTVs etc before you start shooting at me... I am the opposite of Apple hater but if in 2025 I can not send an iMessage in my native tongue from the car whilst all the tech is clearly there for ages I think Apple should be regulated so that people that can actually make it happen easily have access to their platform.
