😳Thanks so much!

I will try these again next time I order something from Amazon.
They make a travel size which is what I normally get. My wife also tried it, but didn’t care for them, but likes it on me because it’s unscented.

Are those deodorants?
[automerge]1569213786[/automerge]

Thanks.

Mitchum's is; from what I have seen, they manufacture roll ons, (which I use), sticks, and sprays.

Some are scented and they have a 'male' and 'female' line; I hunt for the unscented whenever I can find it, (which is not always readily available), irrespective of whether it is the 'male' version or the 'female' version.

I cannot speak with any authority on Schmidts, though I must check it out, and see what is on offer.

Here, Mitchum's is not usually available in general stores; I always buy it in a pharmacy.

Mitchum's is both an anti-perspirant and a deodorant, and an excellent one.

I don't use any, and haven't done so since my late 20's. I shower daily and after workouts, and my girlfriend (Who's picky about smell) say I don't smell in general, so there's that. I haven't had complaints otherwise. This has changed in recent years though, as she has started telling me to shower on occasion. Me getting older resulting in a different biochemistry I assume, so I might start using deodorant regularly again.

I also used to wear my shirts several times before washing them, to save on the environment, but have almost stopped doing that in recent years, because my girlfriend told me my smell had started to linger longer in them.

Your girlfriend sounds a saint, and is a lot more patient than I would have been.

Candidly, I am not so sure that she is "picky about smell" as that she has a heightened awareness of smell; most women do.

And, here'e the thing: If a guy is odiferous, you never, ever, forget that as a woman.

He could approach you thirty years later, beautifully dressed, wine glass in hand, at a function, a proverbial Captain of Industry, but the first thing your olfactory memory does is remind you (powerfully) of the odour that emanated from him when he sat beside you once in class in First Year at university, and how repulsed that made you feel at the time.

I used to use antiperspirant/deoderant. The armpits of my shirts discolored and became crunchy. I switched to Crystal salts. They have no odor, and don't stain my clothes.
Crystal on Amazon.
How effective would, you say this is for suppressing natural sweat based body oder over the course of a day? Do you use the rollon or stick version, scented or unscented?
I sweat heavily, and can go up to 24 hours without stink. I found the roll on a bit messy. With the stick, you get it wet and rub it on. Only takes a moment to dry. I use unscented.
I think I’ll try this. Thanks! :)

Maybe we can get a comment from @millerj123. :)

Today I stopped by my local H-E-B Grocery and found both, Crystal stick (Mountain Fresh scent) and Schmidt’s stick (Charcoal+ Magnesium scent), both about 2.5oz, both $5.00, about twice what I pay for my formerly favorite deodorant, Arm & Hammer Ultra Max Anti-Perspirant, but a better price than some of the natural deodorants that run $7-15.

Today after I swam and showered, I applied the Crystal, spent time in a hot environment, then went home and so far, my arm pits spell delightful! Where is the scent upload button? ;) Of note @kazmac, it required no water to be applied to the stick or to my arm pit. Maybe the product I purchased is different than what you had.

I’ll report back tomorrow but so far so good! 😃

The first natural deodorant I tried recently, Arm & Hammer Essentials with natural deodorizer was a completed failure. Without doing physical activity, in a cool environment, I started noticing a BO smell within hours, and the scent in combination with BO was rank.

Oh gosh QFT with those Arm & Hammer Essentials! o_O Rank, complete failure indeed. 🤣 I'll try to find the Crystal stick, please keep us posted.

@Scepticalscribe 😂 about your Pepe Le Pu comment (30 years on...). Yes, the nose knows and never forgets.

Meanwhile, Secret doesn't keep them.

I have to try to remember to look for the Crystal Stick at whole foods tomorrow.

I couldn't stop laughing at the thought of my armpits smelling "delightful". Rank and awful, totally. No scent at all, sometimes.

I have found that my older shirts still start to grow their own funk, made worse when it's warm out. I can live with that.

I've had better luck at kooky Sprouts as opposed to Whole Paycheck, but the crystals are the same...

Whole Paycheck is further out of my way, so I don't try it that often.

One thing I have found is that once I've been using them a while, they start to shrink and slip out of their holders. I store them upside down in a small bowl once that happens, I've dropped them too often, and the shattered ends cut my pits to no end.

Try heating up the container through external heat or friction. It should fill out the container.

You would wear the same shirts for "several" days? Not change your shirts "several" days in a row, and not just two?

You used to put dirty shirts on a clean body? That - as my mother pointed out in my very early teens, when I was being a mulish young teenager, while she patiently explained this to me as if to a complete cretin - is a great way to make the body dirty again - and, indeed, aromatic, in an unattractive sense - all the faster.

Trust me, this has happened.

An indelible memory.

And guys don't get that you never, ever forget this assault on your nostrils, and that - at the time - it would have put paid to - forever, the sort of forever that also encompasses the next life as well as the one after that - any chance they might have in any romantic department had their thoughts lain in that direction.

Two days later using Crystal, I’ve found that if I apply it in the morning after a shower, it lasts throughout the day and at the end of the day, when I remove my shirt, only then, I notice a slight BO smell from my arm pits, but only if I do a pit check. :) During this time I have not done physical activity in the heat, say yard work. 0f note, (last shower yesterday morning) when I put the same shirt back on, the oder is no longer noticeable even with a pit check. So basically it’s doing the job. Today I’ll go swim, take a shower and after will test the Schmidt’s brand.

I recently discovered Schmidt’s deodorant and Method Man at Target. They are both aluminum free and provide great coverage. I put some on yesterday. I showered today but didn’t wash it off. I think it’ll last two days! If you didn’t have luck with Schmidt’s, maybe the Method Man will work. Good luck! It’s hard to find a good deo that doesn’t irritate!

I use PitRok for Men Deodorant Spray. It is not an anti-perspirant, which I find a good thing as I find I am much less likely to feel too hot because sweat cannot remove the heat.

It uses crystal mineral salts and is fairly natural. It does not contain multiple ingredients that are considered unhealthy (or potentially so) including aluminium, parabens, and SLS/SLES.

There are several reasons I prefer it:
  • It is a pump spray, so no toxic cloud like you get when spraying aerosol deodorant (a problem for me as I have allergic rhinitis, it messes up my sinuses).
  • The fragrance is very light. Strong smelling deodorants such as Lynx are as bad as body odour.
  • I smell far less at the end of the day than I do with other deodorants, almost nothing unless I have been exercising.
  • The lack of the seemingly bad ingredients. I've not actively sought a product without them, but it is a bonus, and would be a decider if I found two products of similar performance.
The only issue is it can take a while to dry, so I just move my arms close to my body to rub it in.

Unfortunately it appears to be disappearing here in the UK, perhaps because the main place to buy it is Boots, and they have been putting it with the other PitRoks in the womens section, so obviously it hasn't been selling as well as it could, and is now not on their shelves. I recently ordered a batch online in case I cannot get anymore.

It has generally been about £4 (about $5) and lasts ages.

I just wish to add that I have encountered a few rather attractive women in my academic and work life who had the same effect. For example one rather statuesque, blond East European who dressed quite smartly but had a noticable BO that put down any thought of romance or desires less noble.

I cannot deny that there are women who - yes - are somewhat oblivious to such matters.

In the early 90s, I spent four months on an academic exchange (funded by the EU) to the Baltic states, - most of that time was spent in Vilnius, as - technically - I was a guest of the University of Vilnius.

However, I do recall the stupefaction of my hosts when I made clear my preference for renting an apartment (in the city centre) with twenty four hour running hot water - making possible daily showering - which I was prepared to pay for privately - a private boiler, if necessary.

This was because Lithuania was experiencing an oil embargo from Russia at that time, - the Russians were demanding that the Lithuanians - who were independent by then - pay for oil at world price market rates, which the Lithuanians, long used to subsidised Soviet oil, wouldn't and couldn't pay - hence cold water and rationing of oil.

Anyway, my Lithuanian hosts thought that my desire for a daily (scalding hot) shower an expression of excessive and effete western decadence and pure self-indulgence.

Eventually, an academic's apartment - with a private boiler, coffee grinder, parquet floors, original artwork on the walls, and books in six languages (only three of which I could read) on the bookshelves was made available to me to rent at a weekly cost half as much again as an academic's monthly salary at the time. I leapt at it.

But, yes, I do recall aspects of what you have alluded to.

I was going to wait a day to report on my second experiment, but seeing this...
I’m on my second day of 1 application of Schmidt’s magnesium + charcoal (yesterday morning) and my arm pits are still fresh as daisies! :D Based on my initial experience, this is superior performance to the Crystal brand. I’ve noticed that the Schmidt’s formula seems heavier, goes on heavier.

Ingredients
Maranta Arundinacea (Arrowroot) Powder, Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Fractionated Coconut Oil), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Natural Fragrance, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Magnesium Hydroxide, Carbo Activatus (Activated Charcoal), Tocopherol (Vitamin E, Sunflower Derived)

Now here is the question about Schmidt’s, is magnesium better than aluminum and does it work the same way? Magnesium Hydroxide is not absorbed into the skin.

Going Natural: Magnesium Hydroxide in Natural Deodorant

Safer than Aluminum
Researchers have determined that sweat itself does not necessarily possess a scent; bacteria clinging to hair and skin are the cause of unpleasant odors in the underarm area or on other regions of the body. Because the clogging of sweat ducts can lead to irritation, acne, infection and other dermatological issues, Magnesium Hydroxide is a beneficial alternative as it kills bacteria without blocking the pores or stifling the surrounding skin.

In addition, scientists have discovered a direct link between high aluminum levels and several diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Correlation between use of aluminum deodorant and breast cancer are also being investigated. Pregnant and nursing mothers are often advised by healthcare practitioners to switch to an all-natural deodorant as a precaution for neonatal health.

For years this was a house full of girls so I (continue to) use Lady Speed Stick, the purple one - Invisible Dry.
