I have a 13" MBP. I charge it only when the battery goes below 30%. I usually use it away from my desk, so I don't plug in the power unless I need it. When I use it at the desk it's just for making SuperDuper backup, which is how I backup the MBP instead of time machine. I always plug in the charger when running software update.

After a year and a half I only use the battery to stream netflix movies and watch DVDs because I move it around and don't want to be bothered with the cord. But I drain and re-calibrate religiously every 2 months, and have the dates set on my Google calendar.

With my old white MB I very rarely calibrated, just used the battery whenever I felt the need. I took it to school with me sometimes. With my new MBP though I plan on calibrating every month (or should it be 2?) and unplugging it at least every few days and run to ~50%, which will be no problem when I leave for college in the fall.

Sometimes I don't unplug it to save cycles, but honestly it doesn't matter. I think people worry about their batteries too much. I was lucky to get 40 minutes out of my MB's first (and second) battery, but the tech has obviously improved, and your battery will last for a long time. Just use it whenever you want/need to on whatever power source is convenient and calibrate every so often.
