I happen to have had conversations with Pete Carroll, and I know for a fact that he wants a playoff. He ALWAYS wants a playoff, and if you went to USC or followed him enough, you'd know that. He's one of the biggest proponents of a new system, and he is not the kind of person that only wants a playoff when he's out of the top two.

then maybe he should be more vocal about it when his teams are in good standing with the bcs

Quotes by coaches and players come from questions by the media. The media is more likely to ask a coach about his opinion of the BCS when that coach's team is on the outside looking in.

yea but still, if he doesnt state his dislike during the years hes having bcs success, he is opening himself up to criticism imo

He always says at the end of the season, no matter if we're 1 or 5, that we will play anyone, anywhere. His actions, by inviting LSU to play us in a home/home two game series, speak louder than his words. This is a guy who calls huge pass plays on 4th down and 2. He is confident, he takes risks, and he doesn't cower down from competition, whether we're in good standing with the BCS or not.

On the same note, I loved Joe Paterno's comments on the BCS.

By the way, I don't think Pete was bashing the BCS as much as he is just wondering what it actually does. In his press conference, he expressed his confusion by saying something to the effect of "I really don't know how it works, what is it trying to do? Who had the best season in total? Who would prevail IF a playoff series were played at the end of the season?". These are legitimate questions, and I'm all for a playoff. I'd also be saying the same thing if we were number 1. There are just too many good teams that deserve a chance to prove themselves.

I don't think any of us would argue the BCS is a good system
There have been some noticeable embarrassements over the years (including last year)
It is a big story when they DO get it right, but the stars have to line up for that to happen, and it is a result of circumstances, not the system

Any playoff system would have its challenges and issues as well
Would I like to see it?
Yes... but we don't have it and we have to work with what we do have

Personally, I was embarrassed as a Dawg fan the way the UGA Prez Adams went after a playoff last year... clearly a "we were robbed" kinda deal. While I agree, the Dawgs had a legitimate arguement, the way it played out was not professional in my opinion... at least not by the administration.

The issue isn't whether coaches want it or not... many do. It is the presidents and the conferences. So far, they have no appetite for it and we can speculate on the reasons till the cows come home... money, power, bowl tie ins, academics, etc.

Will we ever see it? Probably, but it will still be a while
And I don't think it will be one of Obama's accomplishments :)
He would be more likely to use 5 loaves and 2 fishes to feed 5,000 or walk on water

Woof, Woof – Dawg

all i know is he doesnt bash the bcs when his teams are doing well. when his teams are out of favor with the bcs he complains. got it? good
Umm, nope. I distinctly remember him making fun of the system even when USC was number one in past seasons. Give it up. Find another reason to hate him, call him smug or something...
