I think it's badass, it's a whole new perspective and she is an _amazing_ actor. The showrunner from Broadchurch (where she starred, and a previous Doctor, David Tennant also starred), is going to be the new Dr. Who showrunner!

We will see.
I think that no one is complaining about her acting capabilities. My feeds (and PM's) have been flooded by nerd reactions and I haven't read complaints about her. It's all about the Doctor (and the plot).
As I said, I am going to give the show a chance (after all I am loving Twin Peaks: The return which is the most experimental and subversive thing ever seen on tv), hopefully it won't end up like Lucy Liu's Sherlock or the laughable black Kojak. However, I am not overly optimistic.

However, I am not overly optimistic.

Weird.

Terrific actor, excellent showrunner, 50+ years of source material, a fantastic "reboot" in 2005, outstanding story telling in the modern variant.

I'm __incredibly__ optimistic. :)

Poor guy barely got to play the Doctor. His whole first season centered around his annoying companion.

I tried watching the season opener, and it was so bad - even by Doctor Who standards - I turned it off halfway through. I didn't think the writing could get worse than during Matt Smith's tenure.

My Doctor died when David Tennant said "I don't want to go." *observes silent moment for Ten*

In re the new doctor being a woman, it's unexpected but I can't help feeling this is a response to the recent liberal push about gender roles. I hope for goodness sake they don't start making Doctor Who some transgender/lesbian thing and instead of simply telling the Doctor's story start making it a moral statement aimed at cramming the writer's political agenda down the population's throat.
