You do realize the problem with Android is that Google has almost no control over how quickly handsets update, right?

And you do realize that millions of people are not begging apple for a bluray drive and Apple is not saying "muhahah no!", right?

Sounds like you had a bad experience with software, which I can understand. That's why I just use a regular stand-alone player.
It's worth noting the movies on the iTMS are more locked down than blu-rays.
Hear, Hear!
If it wasn't for the efforts of "DVDJohn" those decades ago we'd be having the same PitA experience trying to play DVDs on our computers.
Android doesn't listen.
Android dictates.
Consumer: We want the latest version, I think its JB 4.2.2
Google: No you don't
Consumer: Yes we do, hence we're asking. We'd like to be able to have Google Now because all the iOS users are talking about how great it is.
Google: No you don't, you enjoy Gingerbread. It's a great OS.
Consumer: No i don't, it lags and it's slow and I heard JB is really good. Hell, just give me ICS at least!
Google: Gingerbread is on 38% of devices, and Key Lime Pie is coming out soon! We have no intention of letting you have the latest version of Android. But make sure you tell everyone how cool the latest version is, even though they most probably will never get it!
Consumer: Yes...master.
Google: Goood...goood.
Actually it's not google saying no since all their devices are on the latest OS. It is the manufacturers that slow things down. What a terrible analogy....
And you do realize that millions of people are not begging apple for a bluray drive and Apple is not saying "muhahah no!", right?

Does it have full Blu-Ray menu support? Every player I've looked at thus far for the Mac has no menu support (kind of 1982 VCR-like). The player in question appears to be $59. That's more than my BD/DVD/CD USB 3.0 hardware cost me so it had better have menu support or the FREE stuff wins (i.e. I could buy 3-6 BD movies for that) Even with menus, I'm not sure it's worth it since VLC will add them eventually.
And you do realize that millions of people are not begging apple for a bluray drive and Apple is not saying "muhahah no!", right?

People were begging. We waited since Apple announced support for Blu-Ray in 2005 and never delivered. We've moved on because Apple doesn't listen, because Apple reneged on its promises. At least I have. Apple's not the place to go for the best in high resolution home video. Congratulations, Apple! Yay, mediocrity!
And I'm not some anti-streaming luddite. I stream inside my home, from Blu-Ray sources. I cashed in all my free iTunes copies from DVD's/Blu-Rays. But I chose to take my business to Vudu for HD streaming because they give you upgrade credit if you have the disc (Apple doesn't) and they did 1080p HD for the longest of anybody. iTunes has gotten less than $20 out of me in my lifetime. But really streaming is just for "fun" while I'm on the road away from home, not serious movie watching.
It's amazing how the "terrible"analogy has flown over everyone's head. It's no less terrible than the person I was replying to who implied that apple is willfully ignoring the pleas of millions of their customers who are begging for a bluray drive.
That people are being forced to use their macs and shedding a tear everything they turn it on because of the lack of bluray, but since they are forced to buy apple products because of Apple's brainwashing there's nothing they can do about it...
Try to look at things in context, usually helps in understanding what's being said.
Can you provide any proof that apple users are clamoring for a bluray drive and that apple is saying "no! You don't need a bluray!"
You act as if 90% of Apple's users have sent in petitions for a bluray or something.

"People"are a few loudmouths on a forum. If the people were really begging and apple is just saying "sorry we decide what you want" why are Mac sales going up? Why do people continue to buy macs?
I'm not saying no mac user in the world wants bluray. Of course some do but it's not like millions of people are begging and apple is ignoring them. Why would they?
People actually were begging for a bigger screen iPhone and when apple realized it was affecting their bottom line they gave those people a bigger screen.
Please stop spreading the FUD that poor mac users just want a bluray drive and those damn apple dictators just won't give it them.
I never once claimed users wanted blu ray I was responding saying that your analogy is much different with google than apple since apple controls everything, google doesnt(except for its nexus line of devices)
Probably the same reason users keep/kept buying iphones even without lte/larger screen/etc because if you want IOS/Mac OS you have no other options.... It's not that hard to see or understand.
Whatever customers want is not the main issue here. Adding BluRay now will cost Apple practically nothing extra. But they're purposely not doing it to support their online movie business.

Apple customers are no longer asking for Blu-ray drives in their Macs these days, according to Apple marketing head Phil Schiller. This is perhaps unsurprising given Apple's trend toward removing optical drives from its notebook and now desktop lines, but may regardless cause some consternation among Blu-ray fans.
A MacRumors post from June 2010 in which Steve Jobs told a reader that it appeared Blu-ray would be beaten by downloadable formats garnered more comments for a news post than any other in our history, and we still hear from tipsters asking when Apple will finally include a Blu-ray player in its Macs.
According to an interview Phil Schiller did with Time's Harry McCracken, native Blu-ray support will likely never come to the Mac.
External Blu-ray drives are available currently via USB 2/3 and eventually via Thunderbolt but, given the overwhelming trend towards downloaded media, these are certainly niche products.

Customers not asking for it?
He's lying.
Blu Ray should have BEEN on Mac
That's right, they are not asking for Blu Ray.
They are asking for BDXL.
So apple is the one company in existence that has managed to lie, cheat, steal, brainwash and not give a crap about their customers for years and still manage to make 1B a week.
And THAT is more likely than maybe people just like apple. The rdf has definitely moved elsewhere.
Get out of left field.
No one said (or even implied) that Apple is the only company doing it
So why the uproar? If it's part of everyday business then why are people surprised or making apple the villain?
I'm waiting for one of you guys to explain yourselves but you won't or can't.
When someone brings up ANY company that tells a blatant lie someone brings it up.
It isn't just apple.
Why do defensive?
It's not being defensive, it's trying to dispel the FUD in the original post I replied to.
I don't know why everyone else is getting defensive because I pointed out the flaw in that original post.
I'm not up on my acronyms, what is FUD?
All I said say the guy was lying and that people DO want Blu Ray.
You'll never find a download in iTunes in Blu Ray quality
Apple doesn't listen.
Apple dictates.
Consumer: We want a computer with Blueray drive
