It's absolutely the right decision to purge Phil Schiller from Apple.

Why? The fiasco of butterfly mechanisms completely set a new bar in unreliable products. In fact, the majority of customer fully agreed that MagSafe-USB-C is a great way to prevent the device from crashing down the floor BUT that feature is missing after the introduction of 2015 Macbook.

You can't deny that lots of design flaw in the product and Phil Schiller is practically answering YES despite the fact that it isn't up to Apple standards.

The position of charging port in the Magic Mouse presents a serious cognitive impairment during the development process. No doubt, those cognitive deficit also spread out over to the product like iPhone X to iPhone 11 that cutouts a portion of screen design that looks funky and unpleasant in your everyday life.

If Microsoft had made that same design decision it would be a sticky post in every subforum here on MacRumors full of memes and and mockery. But since Apple made the decision we just get all handwavey and excuse the lapse in judgement by noting that all Apple mice have sucked since the beginning of time and nobody uses them anyway. It really is a baffling blind-spot for the faithful.

WHOA. when I woke up today I didn't expect to be reading this.

Phil has been there for 23 years and is currently 60 years old. Honestly 23 years of vesting stock options and working at the pace a VP at Apple has work both with media exposure and managing hundreds of product maketing decisions and recently the App Store, I'm not surprised at all that he's transitioning out. He is a multi-millionaire many times over and has given an equivalent of lifetime hours to the company in the last 20 years good for him, go enjoy retirement (if that's even possible for someone who works at his level)
Check your math. 33 years.

In the valley, the most humiliating way to get rid of someone is not firing but keep the person hanging on some joke positions.

He's fired, but due to PR and contracts, they can not force him out of the company. So, he stays as an exiled fellow.

Note that: he'll work at Apple for "as long as they will have me", not "as long as I want to".

He's fired fired fired.
