Super truncated summary here; but after the tech hearing it was kind of assumed that the app store utilized predatory practices to push apple's own agenda/apps, despite them saying over and over again that everything is equal for all apps. Phil is in charge of the app store.

Lol no. Just because you can't read between the lines and make connections doesn't mean everyone else is a conspiracy theorist. Also, there are lots of people who dread retiring and having nothing to do, and that's even more true for very successful people like Phil.
Thanks for the summary, that makes a lot of sense.

I really really hope that whatever happens, whether for fixing, tuning, tweaking or revising the rules of the AppStore... that it doesn’t degrade or becomes an utter mess, for me as a customer opening the AppStore and seeing the curated lists today’s section in apps, games and special mentions are a bliss and important to navigate the incredibly dense amount of options.
Not to mention the rest of the technical inner workings of it which behave incredibly well in the Apple ecosystem.

Phil was a great man. We all at Apple will surely miss his great mind and innovative works. (If only Tim would stop kicking all of us out.)

That’s fine. Move all iPhone production in the US and raise the price of an iPhone, I don’t know to $1,999 or even $2,599 I don’t care at this point. Let’s all learn to live with one iPhone only for many years to come, instead of treating it like this commodity product that you can buy every year just to show off to your family and co workers. That is fine by me.
I sort of agree with you. People love using the "It'll raise the price of the products..."but the same people keep buying new phones like it's chewing gum. I say bring the jobs to the US, and hike the prices and be done with it.

But we know people, in the end, only want their Apple products, as cheap as they can get them. No matter the 'cost'.
Ok - so what the hell is an Apple fellow?

Sounds like a demotion to my ears

Shame because I feel like Phil (and Craig, of course) are the only charismatic passionate people on stage
I guess he cannot innovate his a** anymore.
So he got fired in an extremely nice way?
Timmy cant allow people still believe in Steve more than him
Game over for him!
Sounds like "You can keep your job for at least four years until all your current stock vests."

A brief look online before posting, when you don't know something, would help forum fellow the need to go through a lot of incorrect posts...

I don't think Apple ever had a Fellow position, right?
It feels transitional but with Schiller taking a smaller role.

Apple Fellow sounds like a newly created Honorary title.

No it isn't, it exists from a lot of time

If it was about the App Store, would they keep it in the company anyway? Why? Seems counterintuitive, it would still be there and responsible of what he did, if he did something wrong. And, it would be responsible anyway, even out of the company. And if it was about the App Store, would they remove him immediately after? Why? To look guilty? And, tt's not like he has full responsibility, there is a chain of command as in anything else, not having him there or not actually doesn't change anything, except as I already said, look guilty in the eye of forums' conspiracy theorists... I think you would get better results reading the lines, instead that between them : )

'I bleed six colours.' Phil.

I like that.

Good lad, Phil. I like you. I'll miss you enthusing over new Mac hardware.

Azrael.

He was terrible on stage and kept forgetting to tuck in his shirt.

While I appreciate a great orator like Craig, I also see something authentic in someone who does his job incredibly well but isn’t perfect at presenting. That’s what I like about Apples presentations through the years, they are real, mistakes and quirks and all. Imagine how boring it would be if Apple had professional presenters instead of the guys that were at their desks doing the work.

And do you really expect the best minds of SILICON VALLEY to be the best communicators? Come on now! 🤓

This is the same guy that when asked why Apple products cost so much, he said “you’re paying for the experience” ...

I’ll take Craig any day over Phil. I’m sorry I don’t share the same good feelies for Phil as everyone else. He just always struck me as a bit of a tool. Also the untucked shirt thing always bugged me. Craig always looks presentable.

Hey, it's ok to have a different opinion. Maybe a bit brash way of saying it, but whatever works for you!

I see Tim going on for another decade with a phased out exit
He's 60 years old. I don't see him lasting another decade. Some people say Jeff Williams is a shoe-in to be next CEO but he's only one year younger than Tim Cook. As an example, Sundar Pichai is 48 years old and Satya Nadella was 47 when he took the CEO reigns in 2014. Apple needs young, smart talent like that as CEO.

The title actually exists.

So it’s not something that was created just so Phil Schiller could step down gracefully. Nor do I think there is any conspiracy regarding the recent antitrust hearings. Likely he just decided that it was time to take a step back, and you don’t want your top talent to just leave like that so as to avoid spooking the markets.
Meh, Tim Cook could have said Phil Schiller would be a special advisor to him. Everyone thinks this is the first step towards retirement anyway. The market wasn’t spooked when Ive left, it wouldn’t be when Schiller leaves either.

I don’t know if someone has mentioned this, is the timing related to the upcoming stock split?

that’s why I said phased out, meaning, by the middle of the decade he could start that transition process. But I don’t see how his age prevents him from carrying on for another decade.

I've genuinely enjoyed Phil's time on stage and at Apple. If it's a semi-retirement for him I wish him the best. He's certainly earned it.

Another one of Steve Job's original team of SVP bites the dust

Scott Forstall, Bob Mansfield, Jony Ive and now Phil Schiller..... the ones close to Steve and have been with him for decades are slowly forced out.

Too many conspiracy theorists here.

The man is turning 60. He's loaded with more money than he can spend. You want to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour while you're still young enough. I'm surprised he's waited this long. I'm sure there are other multi-millionaires at Apple/Silicon Valley who have cashed and checkout in their 30's!

It's not about money. It's about passion. The passion of Steve Job's original team who were so dedicated that they worked day and night on the ipod, iphone etc and didn't even have time to go home and sleep and had to sleep on the office floor in the days leading up to the launch. Things that will be happen under Tim's lazy slack.

He's simply retiring, people. Being an Apple Fellow means he will officially remain an employee of Apple for the rest of his life. Like Wozniak has remained an employee of Apple. See it as a sort of farewell present, a gift, from Tim for a loyal Apple employee who as been there since the late 1980s.

Dude this news bums me out. I was always looking forward on seeing him on stage every year to do the iPhone presentation.

Maybe they are supposed to be funny, but there are a lot of negative and immature comments in this thread about Phil.

Phil has been one of my favourite Apple execs. Truly a nice guy, down to earth. I am glad he's able to recognize when it's time for a change. Family matters, and every day matters.

Way to go, Phil. Apple would not be what it is without the passion that you brought to the company and the community. Now go enjoy your extra time off. :)
The iPhone presentations will never be the same.

This year really bites. To me Phil Schiller walking up on stage every year to present us the new iPhone is the equivalent of seeing Willy Wonka walking out of his factory to show the audience his new delicacies. Phil has that passionate persona that somehow always gives me the enthusiasm to purchase the new phone. Who knows hopefully Phil will leave us a goodbye present in the form of actually presenting to us the iPhone 12 this year.
