At the end of the day Apple wants to sell product. It's harder to sell stuff that's outdated. I don't think there's anyone inside Apple advocating for a delay in introducing new Macs.

But some of the products in the lineup are really old, someone has decided there is no rush to upgrade them.
Anyway Phil is doing a great job as head of marketing (they even gave him responsibility on the App store), that's what my post was all about.

It is impossible that Mkt. SVP's have any spare time when product development is stalling, and marketing has become the synonym of pushing over 3 years old CPU lineups / iPhone models / the lack of ports as a feature etc. etc.
Stop the corporate derailment, fight the pathetic indolence
Or (when tired or bored) just quit and THEN go work for another employer.
NOT at our cost, as customers who paid zillions just to get letdowns instead of innovative stuff

No idea, great idea for a website though "I bet you" where people can bet against each other, who gets the deciding win would have to be arbitrated somehow though... Hmm.

How about a sig bet - "I was a fool for doubting the wisdom of Jimrod/Zirel". ;)

Conditions for a Jimrod win = iPhone "7" (the one being released in September '16) Has:

1. Same basic size, shape, form factor as the 6/6S - perhaps slightly thinner.

2. Rear antenna bands removed and top/bottom ones remaining.

3. Larger camera lens shifted to parallel corner radius.

4. Slightly larger battery (1900-2000mAh or so)

5. Removal of 3.5mm jack socket, replaced by "speaker" holes (no confirmation of what is behind yet).

Conditions for a Zirel win =

Anything very different from stated above.

Well, 1 and 4 wouldn't be a surprise for anyone. I would make this easier for you to win:

1. Antena bands visible on top and bottom of phone

2. No 3.5mm jack

Is that okay?

I'll be graduating next year with a degree in biotechnology, so all this news really excites me for the future!

Obviously something like the Mac mini and Mac Pro are low on the priority list. I would imagine the MacBook Pro was/is either waiting for Intel chips or there's a redesign coming that's being finalized. It does suck though that there are really no new Macs for back to school buying time.

Shortly after joinning Illumina as board of directors, marketing chief Phil Schiller was able to incorporate its DNA sequencing technologies into Apple iPhones and made an alarming discovery:

I have been wanting to work for Illumina for some time now since it is closer to home for me. I think I need to aggressively pursue a change in employment stat. This seems like a strategic move for them.

You obviously don't know what his job is then. He's way more than the head of marking. I would bet there are zero hardware product decisions that Phil doesn't sign off on or have a say in. And no doubt he is heavily involved in what the product lineups look like, what the specs specs and pricing are.
If this is true, it makes me really sad. Why? He knows or has the experience to know the product mistakes that Apple's is currently making. There is nothing "insanely great" about any Apple products, except maybe the iPhone which has not really changed in the last two years. Maybe in 5 years when they introduce the iCar it will be different, but I am just not seeing it.

Joining the board of Illumina doesn't mean leaving his position at Apple now does it?
Tim Cook is still on Nike's board.
Sometimes it implies that the companies are looking in to future cooperation.

I like Phil, he has done well at apple. Having said that, the picture is from several years ago - he looks a little more weathered today. Also, if you look around Tim has mostly kept the old guard, but brought in a few Women to add diversity. Mostly the old guard is getting...well...old. Hopefully they have good replacements ready to go. I have not been impressed with Angela and that was the biggest new hire by Tim.

Apple needs to start thinking about (if they arent yet) succession plans for all these top execs. They should put the Eddy Cue one into action right away.

That's what differentiated Steve from other managers... He evaluated people strictly based on performance. He didn't keep people around for sentimental reasons no matter how much they accomplished.

That ruthless approach created just enough churn to move new people into the upper ranks and ensured everyone always brought their A game.

It's a great place to work :)

And you get to see Phil Schiller getting coffee and a muffin on certain Board Meeting days

I really like Apple's current top brass. These guys are all very smart, charismatic, and just seem like great guys.

I think you have hit the problem squarely on the head. I don't want "great guys (and gals)", I want insanely great products. Cook just wants to be liked and Cue wants to be in control. Neither put insanely great products at the top.
