And also in fairness the ones that are truly 'computer devices' are definitely not under $500!
A calculator is a computer. Abacus are even considered computer. And they are all devices :)

Peoples perception are not determine by reality but by its senses. The reality of a blind man is different on those who can see. That is why they say that reality is not absolute but relative.

So what exactly can you do on a Pro that you can't on an Air? The original concept of the iPad was of course an 'in between' device as well not a full computer replacement.
People lose sight of this. The product was never meant to be a “laptop replacement” or this “pro device.” It was designed to be a “tweener.”

I’m convinced perceptions about the iPhone and especially the iPad would be very different today had the iPad debuted before the iPhone. The iPad would have been seen as this brand new, incredibly fresh approach to personal computing, and the iPhone would have a been seen as an amazing pocketable version of this powerful personal computer.

Instead, since the iPhone came out first, the iPhone was just a great smart phone, and the iPad was “just a blown up phone”.

It’s amazing how people’s perception of reality is determined by what they see first.
Humans are illogical, irrational, fickle creatures. We often don’t make a lot of sense.

What happened to the 'under $500' part ?
Even cheaper now at $329 when it should be more expensive!

The original iPad was definitely not a 'computer device', the $329 is more capable in so many ways including Apple Pencil support.

I got the first ipad from 2010 with the AT&T unlimited data plan. I am still grandfathered in. Just kept switching it to every new iPad I’ve owned since. I immediately loved the ipad. Over the years it has completely replaced my laptop as my main computing device. I currently have an 11” ipad pro & an ipad mini 5.

You mean like those who say Apple needs:

  • A Mac Pro for normal people that doesn't cost so much and uses Threadrippers instead of Xeons?
  • A 3.5mm jack on iPhones?
  • SD card slots on iPhones or iPads?
  • A MacBook Pro with 32GB RAM instead of 16GB (because they need to run VMs)?
  • Nvidia graphics cards instead of AMD?
  • And so on.....
If so, I agree. It's amazing how many people think they should dictate what Apple does.

Nobody with a brain is talking about an xMac with Threadripper. They're saying replace the Xeons with 64 core /128 Core Threadripper 3 Zen 2 or the successor Zen 3. Pricing of everything else would be the same.

Wheels is under $400 :)
Actually you can’t buy just the wheels, but yes, the Mac Pro space frame and wheels are under $500.

So are the 10.2” iPad, iPad mini and even the iPad Air, right?

Also iPhone 8, HomePod, Series 5 Watch, Series 3 Watch, AirPods, AirPods Pro, iPod Touch, AppleTV HD and AppleTV 4K.

Note:
  • The last six products on that list are all under $250. You can buy 2 or 3 of them and still come in under $500.
  • Of all Apple’s different product categories, only Macintosh can’t be had for under $500. But at least the “One True Mini” fans got what they wanted 🤡 🤷‍♂️

See with Steve Jobs in charge they built reasonably priced products with a slight mark up for the Apple tax. One of the key points he understood was the selling price. He used to make a big deal of it in the keynotes.

These days they just keep pushing prices up out of nothing but pure greed.

I’d say you’re off base here. When the iPad first started, it doesn’t include nearly as much technology as the ‘newer’ iPads do today in terms of offering Face ID/larger displays/stereo speakers/Pencil support/upgraded cameras, etc. Plus, that doesn’t even include that supplier relations which probably increased price points over the years with components/manufacturing, so Apple naturally has risen the price of the iPad over the years. However, they obviously offer different models for those who want ‘lesser’ features with a cheaper price point.

Apple does change a higher mark up, but as technology continues to improve, that comes with a higher price.

They already have one with 64GB and I just have it on my desk.
They do not need NVIDIA. AMD GPUs are equally capable of doing GPGPU stuff and even raytracing render.
RT Cores are good but AMD will catch up on it next year with RDNA2 and right now almost no professional software support that yet.

Nobody need CUDA. CUDA is the cancer of GPGPU just like x86 is the cancer of CPU. I do not like Apple's MPS also but at least one competitor against NVIDIA is better than no competitor at all.

In a perfect world I want everything runs on open standard -- RISC-V CPU with Vulkan/OpenCL compatible GPU.
But right now I just want a less monopoly market -- ARM with Metal compatible GPU.

Nah, sorry. Geforce still stomps on Radeon for frame rates.

Your post is a fail as usual.
Be that as it may, it's actually quite stupid that the iPad doesn't have a built in calculator ... or that there's no swipe texting on it either like the iPhone. Makes no sense.

Agree about the calc, though you can swipe type on it if you minimise the keyboard (which also makes it easier to do!)

I WISH apple would release images of concept designs for various products that never came to be. How amazing would that be?
