Anyone using Philips Hue having problems with the app freezing up and/or crashing lately? Maybe for the past few weeks. It seems like it’s gotten worse and is unusable at this point. Have to force close every minute or even less. Took me a couple hours to configure a some new lights.

iOS 26.1, latest Hue app version and still using the V2 Hue bridge. I have a couple Bridge Pros (yes, I have that many lights) I want to set up but it would take forever in the current state the Hue app is in.

Anyone else having this issue?

Mine has frozen for several seconds when I first open it. But after that it has been fine.
You’ve probably already tried re-installing the app. That would be my first thought.

I’m on the Bridge Pro, for what it’s worth.

No issues at all with the app or Hue devices, knock on wood. iPadOS 26.1, Hue app keeps everything updated in the background and is so stable that I take it for granted. Still using my original bridge from 2016, a dozen bulbs, a few switches and a plug.

Yes, I already tried uninstalling the app. This is bonkers.

Would you be able to try the app on a different device? I've never had issues so don't know if hue hardware could crash the app or not, but maybe it's the device the app is installed on somehow?

Good call on that. I just tried on my iPad and it’s more of the same so looks like it might be hardware related. Now, since this morning it’s having a hard time connecting to one of the bridges. I have to upgrade to the Pro bridges which I have still sealed since launch so hopefully that does the trick.

Hate to be a conspiracy theorist but I’ve been having issues with since they released the Bridge Pro lol.

I've experienced it numerous times, I've changed nothing other than updating software when new releases are posted.

I was going to install the new Bridge Pro but then hesitated and I'm glad I waited. I force quit the app and it seems to work fine after. Something is going on though and it's not from user error (Me).

I also posted in Reddit and getting split results there too. Force quitting works most of the time but sometimes I have to keep force quitting. It’s on and off. Sometimes I’ll get a good 30 mins of good smooth app usage and sometimes it’s just unusable.

Doesn’t look like they have a traditional tech support so I reached out via Facebook and their answer was to reset every single light bulb. I have 300+ 🤣.

Anyways, was running 8 V2 hubs and just moved 3 of them to the Bridge Pro last night (didn’t migrate, went from scratch). Still getting more of the same but I have a lot more lights to go across 3 Bridge Pros and there was an app update this morning. Let’s see what happens. I can say that the responsiveness in HomeKit with the Bridge Pro so far has been fantastic. No popcorn effect yet (knock on wood)

I decided yesterday to finally install the Bridge Pro and to my surprise it went well, everything migrated over. Adding HomeKit back was painless and adding back to Home Assistant was even easier. HOWEVER.......

The Hue app now locks up more than half the time I open the app. I have to force quit the app and re open it. 🤦‍♂️

The Hue app developers are FIRED!

Yep, no change to the Hue app on my end. It’s utterly useless right now.

Just stumbled across a post on Reddit. Person said they disabled Private Relay and it fixed the issue. Are you using Private Relay by chance?

That seems to be a Reddit favorite for many things, anyway I gave that a try today and it made no difference.

The Hue app developer is still fired.

Haha worth a shot. Didn’t work for me either and didn’t make sense since Private Relay only had to do with Safari.

Something else I discovered while being frustrated with the Hue app crashes is I noticed I can't get any Hue scene to work. If I select any Hue default scene in the Hue app the light(s) switch like they should but then within 3-5 second they return to the previous state. I don't have Adaptive Lighting enabled in Apple Home or anywhere else.

I'm starting to think by migrating from old Bridge v2 to new Bridge Pro it corrupted data during the transfer and I'm seeing the results. App crashes/freezes and scene issues etc.

I only migrated over one older bridge and I'm still running one older bridge on the other 1/2 of my house. Those lights, settings, scenes etc all work just fine.

So only lights I migrated over to the new Bridge Pro are FUBAR'd

I had no interest in migrating, especially the way the app had been behaving. I did everything from scratch over the weekend. App still sucks so I don’t think it’s that. Scenes seem to be working fine but I haven’t tested them much.

That takes us back to the Hue App and the software in addition it was occurring prior to the Bridge Pro install so it's most likely not related to new hardware.

I feel a weakness in the Force, a once rock solid, reliable product has began to fall.

Hue has been giving me issues since for some time now. My guess is they lost touch what their bread and butter was (smart lighting) and shifted focus toward their subscription based security system. It somewhat coincides with the release of their cameras.

On a side note, I am impressed with the new MotionAware it has worked very well. I turned it off for now but it does seem to work good. I have sensors in place already so I don't need it but it does seem to work just as good.

Gotta try that for kicks and giggles at the least.

Same exact issues here. Updated to bridge pro from 2 standard bridges. Looked forward to consolidating and potential performance of light responsiveness and any other quality of life improvement the updated bridge would bring. I’ve had nothing but an inferior experience since the upgrade though and have all of the issues you mentioned.

I unscrewed the bulbs while the power was on, let it sit for 30 seconds and then put it back in. It seemed to respond correctly to the set scene. So I'm wondering if the bulbs that don't respond correctly simply need to be reset? I have too many bulbs and don't feel like screwing around with it.

Anyway I thought I would mention the bulbs that don't respond correctly may need reset for some reason.

Itinj24 did a fresh install so if scenes don't work then I'm out of ideas.

Flipped the breaker to the whole house as i have way too many bulbs to unscrew them all. Shall see if it helps later this evening. Kind of doubt it will be a long term fix though.

I’ll try a scene soon and report back. However, the general performance of the bulbs (in HomeKit) with the fresh install of the Bridge pros has been much better. Lights respond quicker, not getting popcorn effect, grouped lights are acting together as a group (V2 bridge had some lights in a group either not turn on or off together with the rest of the group).

My only issue thus far is the performance of the Hue app.

Ok, so I tried a few different Hue scenes… the default “Bright” scene, “Chinatown”, “Glitz and Glam”, “Festive Fun”, “Tyrell” and several others. They’re all sticking. Like you said, you probably do have some kind of AL corruption when you migrated. That AL feature, one that I love so dearly, has been the source of bugs with colored lights I’ve learned. Your issues with scenes seems to be consistent with the way it was before.

When I onboarded my lights into HomeKit, I made sure that AL was disabled for all. I want to try it out again with the Bridge Pro but I’m afraid I’d have to redo everything again from scratch. It’s all working good now without it. I’m not getting that annoying persistent banner to enable AL in the Home app either.

I skimmed the thread so I apologize if this has been addressed.

How many bridges do you have and how many devices are on each?

I've removed most of my Hue lights and replaced them with normal LED bulbs and smart switches. Over the course of doing this I noticed improved performance of the Hue app. Now that I only have 1 bridge with 6 bulbs it launches near instantly and never crashes. All my automations and scenes are done through the Apple Home app, so I don't really have a reason to open the Hue app.

Point is, in my experience loading and managing tons of devices introduces a bottleneck somewhere that manifest in the app.
