when an app for Android/Google TV's (SONY, Philips, Panasonic, Hisense, Sharp, Grundig, Blaupunkt, Xiaomi, TLC, Apple TV ...)

I can't see an app being responsive enough for higher frame rate content and this seems to be the case based on the sub responses over at the center for online whining. Lytmi in the other hand does about 90% but can't sync to bulbs. What you do get is a nice LED strip/rope for behind the TV and an 8K HDMI box with multiple inputs that doesn't suffer from lag. Me personally, I don't need all my hue lights to sync to a movie scene because the strip behind the TV (that runs all the way around) provides plenty of immersion and I prefer a dark room- so the content pops where it ought to, around the screen. There are other options that use a camera to estimate color and send it to a light strip. Those are awful. The old hue box was also uniformly awful. So while I'm heavily invested in the Hue ecosystem to a shameful and pricey degree, I won't touch the sync box. If I got one for free I'd sell it based on how uneven it is in terms of switching lag between formats and various refresh rates.

Good to see TVs from another manufacturer also being supported. Hue lights are good but they are costly. Not happy paying a monthly fee or even a one time fee of $130.

So disappointed I have the lg g3 2023 model and originally they said it would work on any model with webos24 including the 2023 one that now has webos24 but today they stated its only available for the newer 2024 models only, terrible move from lg and hue
Wow I thought the same thing so I updated my LG C2 and now it won't turn off. Do you know how to fix this? it just displays a picture when I turn it off? Granted I couldn't find my remote cause I haven't used it since I bought the tv so I had to do all of this with the LG remote app which doesn't work after the update. I ordered a new remote and unplugged the tv for now. All this trouble makes the hue sync box well worth its price. I deeply regret connecting this tv to my internet in the first place.

This would be a great new TV gimmick; RGB LEDs built directly into the back of TVs… The more expensive the TV, the brighter and more color accurate LEDs it has. 🤔

I think I saw someone waving with the Philips Ambilight patent in the corner of the room. ;-)

I tried the sync box before but I always find the color changes distracting. To avoid eye strain I just set the lightstrip behind the tv to 50% brightness and blue color light that's constantly on while watching in a dark room.

Agreed.. If having lots of weird lights were good, then movie theatres would do the same.. Max darkness with an OLED monitor is the best combination... Anything else is noise and distraction only.
I agree. It hits different.

Exactly. We have two Hue light strips - one behind the sofa and one in the garden, and only use them for music. Using the iLightShow iOS app. Watching TV with lighting effects sounds both cool and annoying 😂
Yeah. It's one of those things where it seems fascinating but it actually isn't.

Maybe they can expand it to their own TV then! I have the Philips 65OLED808 after upgrading (a 2024 model) which doesnt sync with my Ambilights. Massive downgrade from the 2019 model I had. I guess thats what happens when you sell you TV and Lighting arms to different companies to make more money and ruin customer satisfaction.

So does LG TV has its own lights or do I need to buy dedicated lights? Does this work if TV is disconnected from internet?

Maybe it is distracting because of latency, I have Philips TV and I always keep this feature on.

I got excited and then saw a subscription so it's a "yeah nah" from me.
Same! I was considering buying the Hue Sync box just recently, but worried that it would turn into more of an expensive gimmick after month or two. So I never bothered. The thought of doing this through an app on my LG TV sounds awesome. But not at those prices!

I have always wondered: is this actually appealing? To the extent that it is worth paying significant money for?
Behind my TV is a small light with a "warm white" hue bulb in it. I like it - I don't want colours flashing around.

If I had that, I'd turn the TV off and put some dance music on 😁

Well, movie theaters don't have a visible wall behind the screen the way TVs have (until we get full-wall TVs, at least).

All other surfaces, in both theaters and at home, get indirect lighting from the screen. So the high contrast dark background unique to TVs can be off-putting.
