Why, what are they going to do? Tell streaming services/broadcasters what people are actually watching?
There was a scandal not that long ago where TVs connected to people's networks were port scanning everything on it and looking for open file shares. They say they are better now, but I will never trust them.

Fair point, I actually keep mine on an isolated IoT network, along with any other smart devices.

I’ve just come to say one thing: Hyperion.

It’s free, easy to install and can be used on LG webOSTV.

I was skeptical of this Hue Sync app, but I tried it and am pleasantly surprised how well it works with my LG G4 and the 7 hue lights (including several gradient ones) in my living room. It is really nice having the tone and brightness of the room lights sync with the on-screen material, so that dark scenes are not washed out by room lights and bright scenes are not stark, and color temperature of the ambient lighting is consistent with the color temperature of the screen. The intensity, responsiveness and brightness are adjustable.
For $3/ month I think it a trivial cost, at least compared to the $2000+ I have spent on hue lighting in my house, and I can cancel if the novelty wears off
