And nothing mentioned about HomeKit ? Is the sensor HomeKite enabled or not
The Hue hub is HomeKit enabled so logic would say this should be too as it connects to said hub.

Whether the hue app lets you do anything more interesting with it I'm sure third party apps will be able to.

Same situation for me.

Well, this sensor is wireless so place it above your usual reading spot. It will likely trigger with normal fidgeting and page flipping motions.

Lol. If multiple people are in the room then it means that at least someone requires light so the sensor will be triggered. Would you want the lights to turn off while some people are still in the room?
That's what I'm asking. How effective the sensor will be when there are multiple people walking by at any given time, if it's set to turn on when entering and off when leaving...

I guess you would have to disable that feature when guests are over.

Just to clarify, Philips is updating the "Hue White and Color Ambiance A19" bulbs, not the just released the A19 "Hue White Ambiance A19" bulbs. Correct?

You can add third party bulbs the the bridge. Do you thinks this applies to the motion sensors as well? Motion sensors can easily be find half the price.

40 bucks seems a bit steep, if they expect us to scatter these all throughout the house. I love my Hue(s) but I'll stick with the switch.

$40-60 is pretty much the standard for motion sensors.

Where?

If I were to buy a sensor I'd be looking at the Zwave Aotec Multisensor6 or the Fibaro "eyeball" sensor. I don't know too many Zigbee sensors. I like the Lutron sensors but they've been out a while and support Lutron's homegrown technology.

I'm excited that we have a Hue compatible sensor now. Honestly I thought Philips was going to price it higher. My guess is i'll only need about 3 or 4 max. The usage case for me is really just those scenarios were I don't want to fumble with a light switch so entry points would be key and other areas of the home where it's dark and i'd prefer it be lit for safety (I have a couple youngsters)

Interesting question. What, exactly, would you want HomeKit - or any other controller - to do with a motion sensor? Enable/Disable?
I want to use the sensor as a trigger and condition for all other HomeKit devices (to lock or unlock the door, to switch on the tv etc).

No HomeKit in sensors is simply a vendor lock-in play. We all know it. We've already seen this sort of lock-in happen from vendors like Philips and Lutron who are using Zigbee Lightlink yet are incompatible with other Lightlink products. To be fair Zigbee didn't have their house in order and at last CES this year they announced 3.0 which improves the ability to deliver interoperable devices. I suspect vendors will still attempt to lock things down and keep you in their ecosystem but with 3.0 companies that just want to make sensors have a cleaner path to supporting more products.

My bathroom has the only remaining non-Hue lights in my home because I have them on a motion sensor. With Hue now having its own motion sensor, I'll be able to finally add Hue to my bathroom.

I'm very curious if the motion sensor is HomeKit compatible. Besides turning on lights, it would be great if we could use the sensor to activate HomeKit scenes.

My bathroom lights turn on when I go in (hard wired, old school lights and motion sensor). I also have amazon rainforest sounds playing in the bathroom but they're on full time.

A HomeKit motion sensor would enable a scene where when someone walks into the bathroom, the rainforest sounds turn on (with a HomeKit power switch) and the Hue lights turn to greens and blues.

Another scene with a Hue motion sensor placed above your entrance door: Walk in and your home lights up and the tv turns on in the living room. Walk away from the door and it locks behind you.

They're gonna need to find a way to up the allowed accessories per hub, 12 accessories per hub with motion sensors and switches is starting to become a problem.

Luckily I'm gonna be using 4 wink relay switches, so that will reduce my switch count, but for those with a full house of switches and motion sensors, one hub isn't gonna cut it and frankly I don't think people feel like having to go through the hassle of two hubs.

my question is that, are these bulbs bright enough just like the lifx color 1000 ? i love lifx just cos it gives brighter color... anybody could confirm this for me. thanks

Ha. Ha. I literally just finished fishing wire to my closet to install a motion detector switch. Oh well. At least I don't have to replace batteries.

Depends how light sensitive you are. LIFX are a tad brighter. Hue's are all 60-65w equivalent. LIFX has color bulbs that are 70w equivalent. I read that LIFX is coming out with a Homekit version this fall (Will believe it when I see it). Nothing about increased lumens here on the new Hues. Hopefully that will be an unmentioned feature. It's the one thing that holds me back from upgrading my recessed lighting.

The sensor will talk to the Hue Bridge which already controls the Hue lights, and the Hue Bridge is HomeKit enabled.

Okay, I know it was just a "for instance", but... a motion sensor to unlock a door? Why have a lock on it in the first place then?

Seems this is more suited for a single person, or just to be used for the washroom.

I didn't even think of that use, perhaps easier than reaching for my phone when entering the toilet! :p

I see no one has replied to you, but I do wonder, as here in Australia all the stores selling "Hue White Ambiance A19" bulbs show no stock right now and I had assumed this was because they were clearing inventory for this refresh. I'm certainly not interested in any colour bulbs, but I wouldn't mind a white bulb that had adjustable temperature, which I believe is available in some markets, like the US, but not here yet!

Yes - it's the 'full' colour-range bulbs (these new ones will be v3)
v1 had poor green/blue leds and were too dim (600 lm)
v2 had better brightness (800 lm) but still poor green/blue
v3 will hopefully be the last update for a while

OK... now I understand. Perhaps we are thinking of this differently.

The Hue HUB is HomeKit enabled, so the motion sensor is really just another switch. It would (should) not need to be individually enabled for HomeKit because you couldn't set it to do anything except perhaps enable/disable.

Am I oversimplifying?

Philips has clarified. The sensor is not HomeKit enabled.

This limits it to a simple light switch and makes it far less useful. HomeKit allows you to register each device independently, enabling scenes with all registered HomeKit devices. This will not be the case with the Hue sensor. I'll wait for another manufacturer to release one.

I can't wait to see the updated lights. I love my current Hue setup, but the pale greens do leave much to be desired.
the question is , are these newer bulbs brighter than previous like the lifx 1000 bulbs. this has also been my issue with philips hue bulb brightness

Best Buy has some of the new items listed on their website. Didn't see the v3 A19 bulbs though.

Philips today announced the newest addition to its Hue line of lights and accessories, debuting the new Philips Hue Motion Sensor. The Hue Motion Sensor is designed to allow Philips Hue users to control their lights automatically as they move through their homes.

The Motion Sensor connects to a Hue Bridge and because it's wireless and powered via battery, it can be placed anywhere in the home - a bookshelf, a side table, a wall, a ceiling, etc. Once in position, the motion detection feature can be adjusted to the ideal position and it will perform set actions like turning the lights on or off whenever activated.

The Hue Motion sensor is highly customizable and supports personalized settings ranging from a soft, subdued light at night to set scenes during the day. It also has a built-in daylight sensor so it can turn lights on and off based on the time of day, and it has an instantaneous reaction time, adjusting lights within .5 seconds of being activated. Up to 12 Motion Sensors can be connected to a single bridge for a fully automated home lighting experience.

Along with the Motion Sensor, Philips is introducing updated Hue White and Color Ambiance A19 bulbs that feature richer greens and blues, a feature Hue owners have long desired. The new bulbs offer bolder, brighter colors than existing bulbs. Two new Philips Hue White Ambiance bulb extensions are also available, including BR-30 and GU-10 variants.

Philips' new Motion Sensor is priced at $39.95 and will be available from the Philips Hue website, Amazon.com, and Best Buy starting in October of 2016. The new Hue White and Color Ambiance A19 bulbs and the new BR-30 and GU-10 bulb variants will also be available in October.

Looking forward to real reviews comparing them to the LIFX bulbs. After investing in HUE bulbs and led strips they turned out to be too weak to properly lighten our living room which made for a dark depressing winter.

I found out the many folks solved this by adding some LIFX bulbs to he mix. Luckily there are some great mobile apps that allow you to control this mixed setup.

What really sucks though is that Apples rules for HomeKit compatibility excluded the LIFX ones.. looks like LIFX will also release new lights soon though since he current ones are either on sale or sold out.. let's see what that brings.

I have the Hue motion sensor, just one right for testing, in my hallway which doesn’t get a lot of natural light.

It only works via the Hue app, so switching the lights on and off, but it has a setting for light intensity, so will only switch the lights on below a certain intensity.

It has two time ranges for different settings, but as far as I can tell, works on a room not on individual lights.

It works fine.

I just bought the Fibaro motion sensor that includes light and temperature sensors and connects to HomeKit, but only has automation triggers based on motion, so seems pointless, and is of course far more expensive than he a Hue Sensor. I’m probably going to send it back and get more Hue motion sensors.

The app iConnectHue will give you more time options compared to the Hue app (2 is very limited I must say)

Thanks for the tip.
Yes, 2 is limited, but my test motion sensor is in the hall by the front door, and 2 has worked well, day time full light, and in the night just a muted light to show the way to the toilet.
Having said that, I want to have motion sensors in other rooms, and more flexibility would certainly be beneficial.
