I like many users have auto update turned on. I expect the app developers to test the update on their iphones and not in a simulator. I don't think anyone from hue actually has and uses the hue lights.

Spend enough time working for a technology product company and you'll realize that it has nothing to do with whether or not these people use their own products. Likely, the people closest to the product are using newer software than is available to the public, newer lights, different methods of accessing those lights, etc.

My lights are my alarm to wake me up in the morning. I didn't wake up this morning. In fact, I'm still sleeping right now.

In that case it makes it even worse becausr what your saying is they only give users the tried and trusted

Alarms were not affected because they live in the bridge.

Right so every user who's iPhone or iPad auto updated can't now download the 1.7.3 update. And hue should have tested for this. Seems they didn't. Again

I'm suggesting the problem is with the App Store caching old links to the previous release, and therefore there's nothing Philips can do. Try resetting your device in case the cached data is at your end.

It doesn't make it worse, it means that the mistake happened at quality control - it means that what you originally said was wrong...and now you're just going even further into knee jerk territory.

Not at all. If they only pass to the end user tried and tested stuff then it would work. You suggest that is what happens. I suggest it isn't cause the stuff were getting is broken more than often.

Best you go tell the thousands around the world who don't reqd macrumors and rely on their apple product just working.

For those people who use iTunes on a Mac to Sync apps, it throws the previous app versions in the trash. If you don't empty the trash right away, you can dig old versions of updated apps out of the trash and save them in a folder. If you ever need to go back, you can delete the new version from iTunes and your device, copy/drop the old version on iTunes and Sync it to your device.

Mac assisted app roll-back.

By the way, if anyone's still struggling, it might be a good time to check out some third party apps. I like iHueConnect, which feels vastly more like a professional product than the 1st party effort. It costs though. Well into the multiples of dollars. But you're all loaded anyway;)

Edit: It's iConnectHue not iHueConnect

hue on twitter says the problem is due to the app not going live yet in some countries. ********. Im in the uk, someone on twitter from UK claims they have it. I don't. A reboot of device doesn't fix. I can't download as the app is saying not available (same message as some have posted pics on twitter)

The only perosn I've heard who has it is someone who didn't auto download the ****ed up version.

maybe when I wake up in the morning it'll be fixed?

Bad Update!

Problems happen with software, but unless you have the ipa file and use itunes you are stuck. In situations like this would be nice if Apple allowed the developer to put the previous version back. To help the users that were impacted by the bad version.

v1.7.3 is not available although it is shown, but 'love' ;) the details:

"We apologise for the crash that some of you had after installing our latest update."

Do they mean to say EVERYONE that installed the latest update were impacted!

At the end it says "Improved overall stability"....sadly the 1.7.1 version said similar.

Guess this is a way for them to sell the "tap" and or to make everyone realize the wall switch works and doesn't have problems like this!!!

I'm in the UK, and just noticed that my iPad does have auto updates turned on and is now running 1.7.3. The iPad has been on wifi most of the day so most likely did pick up the faulty update earlier in the day.

So both my devices had no problems updating to the latest version. Not saying that problems aren't happening, just telling what I know.

My iPad is on autoupdate. it didn't auto update to the dodge file because hue pulled the app before it could do it. Yours is maybe the same.

I use a couple of third-party Hue apps (Hue Disco being one of them) and find them to be fun enhancements to the system. But the app that controls the basic functions of the system should be the one offered by Philips. Sadly, though, the official Hue app has always been a piece of garbage.

Maybe this latest incident will prompt Philips to realize it needs to ditch its current development team and hire some folks who really know how to develop a feature-rich, rock-solid app.

I just pulled up the previous version from November and restored that to my iPhone from the Mac and I'm back working again.

This is what sucks about the "auto update" app feature. Everything's fine, then when you go to use an app, bang, YOU'RE ****ED! Automagically the app was updated to something that doesn't work any more.

Let's see, I buy something that requires software to work, it works until a new update comes out, then doesn't work anymore.

If Phillips had to credit a dollar to every account that had this app installed, I bet they would be more careful...but here it is just a "ooops, sorry folks...."

Do you have a link? Because I searched for it and could not find it.
