Could do with some advise

Hi

I could do with a little advise please. My girlfriend Jess has just been the victim of phishing. She recently registered for internet banking with NatWest, following which she got an email similar to the one you received. Being of an innocent and trusting disposition she thought nothing of it - as she assumed it was part of the sign up process. This was about 3 weeks ago.

This afternoon she received a call from the bank. Someone had withdrawn all her savings.

It seems from your posts that you were going to be compensated by NatWest and was wondering how you got on and if you had any advise to impart.

Many thanks in anticipation
Andy

I've had four or five of these in the last few weeks. There are three giveaways that they are a scam...

The poorly reproduced logo

The terrible English

And this is the real giveaway - I don't have accounts with any of them...

Same here. Bank of America ones have been very prevalent in the past several weeks. Sadly, these are sent because many click them and do provide information.

natwest

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. How much info do you have? Do you know how they did it yet?

natwest

the email i received went straight to a log in page and i am not sure wether i filled i it in or not .have never had such an email before or even heard of them .if i had it would have only been random numbers like the bank ask .the bank are not interested .we have a small business and are looking at going bust now and will lose our home over it but no-one will believe that the bank just give you an address to write to in hampshire and you have to wait up to 8 weeks for an answer .you cannot phone them .by that time it probably be too late for us .our bank manager has offered no support just a further overdraught with massive costs !!!unbeleivable .apparently natwest are the worst bank for this with bad security and other banks refund where they dont without a fight .

I think you need to get down your local Citizens Advice Bureau today. Although if you did put your details into a phishing e-mail you will struggle to get the stolen money back, there are measures you can put in place to both keep the business running and keep your home until you can build up a cushion of cash again. You also need to ensure that you make a list of every single person you owe money to and take that along with you to the CAB.

Yes it's bad, but manage it right and you will get through it. Best of luck.

I get a few of these a week. Either from Natwest or Saxo Bank (never heard of them). The OPs is more elaborate and could possibly fool someone not paying attention. However the poor grammar and spelling is a total give away. Online banks NEVER email anything to customers they have 'messages' waiting for you when you log in.

If you do get an email from a bank and you think it may be genuine NEVER click on a link within that email. ALWAYS open your browser yourself and type in your usual banks address.

If I get any email thats unsolicited, spam or not, it goes straight in the trash just like snail mail.

I also never buy anything over the net when the site has even the slightest whiff it might be iffy. Even is there is something I want that is cheaper from a fairly reputable online company I feel safer paying that little bit more to get it from a company I know.

Even with my strict security practices my credit card has been cloned in the past so it just goes to prove you are not always safe.
