Ahhhh, I remember when I had bought the iPhone 4 about a month before the 4s came out. I wasn't familiar with Apple's phone upgrade cycle then and didn't know any better. I could have just about kicked myself when I recognized the pattern shortly after! D'oh!

I really do think 2011-2012 were the iPhone's heydays, honestly. During this time period, it seemed like Apple had gotten everything just about right: the design was truly one to behold, the ecosystem had definitely matured, and iOS itself was buttery smooth and (I think) less bug prone than current releases. All of this combined reminds me of a certain charm I think Apple had in those days -- a charm that just... just isn't there anymore. I can't exactly describe it, but I think most of you kinda get what I'm talking about.

The nostalgia led me to downgrade my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 to 6.1.3. The shocking part? I've actually been using, or have attempted to use, both devices more than my current gen iDevices. Especially the iPad 2. It's almost mind boggling to think this six year old tablet was once as fast as my iPad Pro. o_O

But I haven't stopped there. In an attempt to experience the phone I should have gotten in the first place, I went ahead and ordered an iPhone 4s from eBay, and I fully intend on downgrading it to 6.1.3, and will try to use it as my daily driver. I just really wanna go back to 2011-12 and experience that old Apple charm, just one last time.

Didn't mean to get sappy, heh, but the point still stands. :)

I totally agree and the same thing I'm going to do with 4S, maybe I will sell my current 6S with iOS 10.3.2 haha

I like the 4s I have, but it was a purchase for my son that ended up in my hands.

In 2011 I deliberately avoided upgrading because of the 4s. The 4/4s has never been a design I've liked (particularly when people place these phones in neon bumpers). If I had gotten the 4s, it would not have been in the white I currently have - it would have been black.

I waited until the iPhone 5 launched to buy my first new iPhone. I still have my 5 and I love it. As far as I am concerned iOS 6 remains the best operating system.

I have never been fond of anything iOS 7 or higher and I hate the multicolor flat look. I think it was inspired by what Jonny Ive saw when he went to pick his kid up at preschool.

In any case, this 4s I have is the only device I can currently downgrade to 6 to I took the opportunity. It's a decent phone, but I'm not in love with it like my 5.

As far as your nostalgia, I get it. I use PowerPC Macs. Now, once again, I have an iPhone that will sync with iTunes on my Macs running OS X 10.5.8.

I'm thinking about buying a 5 that has iOS 6 still installed on it. Never got to experience it on the 4" screen, sadly. Finding one shouldn't be a problem -- I'm more concerned about its price!

And yes, I do PPC Macs on occasion, too! Haven't been as into it lately, but I'm sure the interest will come back some time. It always seems to. :)

So once again, to make it clear that I did not buy 4S unnecessarily and nothing more than downgrade it, for example, to iOS 8.4.1 instead of 6.1.3, which I want ... Does it depend on the version it came with? And in which year was the iPhone made or does not matter and the downgrade to 6.1.3 can be done totally on all 4S models made in any year and with which version iOS was delivered? Thanks everyone :D

AFAIK the only thing necessary is for you to be jailbroken before you start.

The method I used above is what worked for me.

Well, so I'll hope that the downgrade to 6.1.3 will succeed ;). So I'm going to order 4S. Jailbreak and downgrade will be done on Windows

Now that an SE is my backup phone for my 6s Plus, I'll downgrade my "special metallic violet edition" 4s (found on eBay two years ago) to 6.1.3 too. :)

My first iPhone was a used 5 what had not been on iOS 6 very long, so I can't really remember the experience and am very excited.

Well, got around to quite a bit of things today.

iCleaner Pro got a workout in testing. Had to remove a couple of tweaks that were not working but not significant to the purpose of this phone anymore.

At least it's stable now.

Forgot what I was using back in 2014.

Curious, why downgrade from iOS 9 to iOS 6...I think I missed a memo somewhere?!

Gotta blow the dust of this iPad 2 and try it out :)
Because iOS 6 is my preferred version of iOS.

I had it set up perfect. I prefer it over iOS 7, 8 and 9, which I consider to abuse primary colors and flatness. After a couple years I finally get a device on iOS 6 back and my son wants to put 9.3.5 on it so he can facetime.

So, when he gets my wife's old 5 and I get the 4s back I was just waiting for this jailbreak so I could downgrade it and restore my previous backup (which has been sitting waiting for three years).

Please help me!

ERROR: could not retrieve device serial number.

Please help.
Near as I can tell from a Google search, your device needed to at least once have been on iOS 5.1 for this to work.

Was your device ever on iOS 5.1?

I am a total noob about this so I'll ask. I have an iPad 2 and iPad 3 that at one point ran iOS 5.1.1 so can I downgrade both back to iOS 6.1.3? In fact because of the embedded YT app in iOS 5.1.1 I was running iOS 5.1.1 up until a couple of years ago.

I absolutely love the look of that OS but must say that while I'm not a big fan of iOS 7 and above the functionality of iOS has improved and come a long way. I just love the smoothness and look of iOS 5 and 6. If there's hope I can downgrade both of those iPad's back to iOS 6 you guys would make my year. :)

All I can say is to try.

It should work, but you got to follow the directions explicitly. In the YT video page there is a link for a Google Docs folder that has everything you need including the IPSW.

You may need a different IPSW for your iPad, IDK. I'm about as familiar with this stuff as you are, but following the directions I was able to achieve nirvana.

Sorry for the stupid question but which YT video? Also is it better to do this on a Mac or PC? I downloaded the 6.1.3 ipsw for both iPad's from http://ipsw.me

The whole reason for this thread was because I found a YT video showing how to downgrade my 4s from 9.3.5 to 6.1.3. The person who created the YT video also included a link to the folder with all the stuff you need included.

Said person also used a PC to do all of this so that is what I used.

If you go back to the first page you will find the YT video and the link to it and on that persons YT page for this video you will find the link for the download.

I'm sorry, normally I hate YT videos and I am not this obtuse about them, but I wish to promote this guy because he made this so easy for me. So I am just linking to his video page.

OK, so while I appreciate the YT person explaining how to JB an iPad 2 the downgrade threw me for a curve. He starts off with JB the device using a MacBook Air and in order to downgrade you now need a Windows computer?

I now have my iPad 2 in JB mode but I need confirmation this requires a Windows PC in order to downgrade and supposedly I have to install iTunes 12.0.1 to make this work.

You can downgrade with this trick:
Do you have any type of Mac or Windows pc? If you do, try this.
If you don't, it's not worth the risk of something going wrong.

Thanks for the tip but that YT video wasn't that helpful. I used my 2012 Mac mini running High Sierra to JB my iPad 2.
[doublepost=1507155005][/doublepost]I'm now switching to a Windows PC to attempt the downgrade. I downloaded WinSCP 5.1 and Openssl 1.0.2 and when I extract Openssl I get a Windows 10 message that it can't open that app as the executable is in MS-DOS.

This is where I downloaded Openssl https://www.openssl.org/source/

This is where I downloaded idevicerestore https://github.com/libimobiledevice/idevicerestore , the file I downloaded is called idevicerestore-master and is 110K bytes. Is this the correct file? I read the readme file and it talks about a sudo command, not sure if this is the Windows version.

I'm already beyond frustrated and ready to give up...sheesh. :(

If everything fails, just try dualbooing with coolbooter.

Oh yeah for sure

Thanks!

This MINI1 gets pretty close to zero use but i wont get rid of it, so if coolbooter works (re-JB’ing, and about to boot into it in a minute or two) i will be so giddy and happy

This is a relic piece revived
[doublepost=1502245801][/doublepost]I got it!

Amazing!

Already JB’en too!

Do u use 2 factor? Having difficulties entering the numeric password for step 2 on iOS 6,

Ask the person you bought it from. If they don’t know then they likely sold you a stolen iPad.
